Iowa: Maize of Defeat

I agree with that statement.

The plan was to have the next Pixel’s event then. They are allergic to srk so it’s okay that you didn’t know. But yeah.

Ha - well, I didn’t rage out for very long. Just said “BLAKE, SHUT THE FUCK UP!” and it was done. It’ll be good to watch though I suppose, lol.

There was no tekken in 2009. Plus in all honesty T6 is about as dead as it gets right now, and TTT2 won’t really be out in time, so what would really be the point in running anything?

I’m halfway surprised that MK9 is getting another run at Evo. My poor game gets hated on so much.

Cant wait for ya’ll to stomp the piss out of me in UMVC3 when the monthlies start back up. I’ll just start bending over right now.

So people do play fighting games in Iowa, I’m not alone in the world.

I thought you all might want to know that my college is having a lan party February 10-11 if anyone is interested.

What college and what games?

Hawkeye community and whatever people bring

How many people do you have playing fighters? Do you know about the Cedar Rapids monthlies?

I got a few people who do, and I do not know about Cedar Rapids monthlies. Could you please explain?

My bad; it’ll only be the SECOND time. By that logic, if they don’t get 1000 entrants, might as well not run it, right? I’ve always maintained EVO has the ability to run whatever they want to and shouldn’t restrict themselves to just “big” games, especially if they want to expand the product/brand, but I’m just a lowly Iowa player. Again, I’m not surprised they won’t have Tekken, but it still feels odd considering there have been a few occasions that they’ve run it and gotten less-than-ideal turnouts.

As for MK, I think it’ll stick around a lot longer than people think. It may get hate, but it’s super hype, has a decent-sized scene, and people (read: non-competitive players) love watching it on the stream. That alone equates to money, which in turn equates to longevity.

That was the last one I was able to run before holiday started kicking my ass. I’d like to start them up again this month, but there are some DM people starting a monthly thing on the 21st, and the shop we use is doing a MTG pre-release event the 28th. If it happens this month, it actually won’t be at the shop. Regardless, I always post it up here in the IA thread when it gets official.

Scott I’ll be at the monthly any date except for the 21st

Fuck MTG nerds is all I have to say about it, lol.

Are Sundays a good day for the Cedar Rapids tournament?

We used to have them on Sundays when I first started them up, but a bunch of the DM guys and some others couldn’t make it then. Which is understandable since that’s a 2-hour commute.

the mothly stuff NEEDS to start back up. jonesing for live play.

Wow dude, I really didn’t mean anything by what I posted but if thats how its gonna be, then here we go.

I cited 2009 as an example because I happened to be there that year. If you really want to do a history check, it looks like it wasn’t there in 2002 or in any of the battle by the bay tournaments that happened before that, so yea it’s had a pretty long-running history at evo, nothing to argue there. I don’t know where you are pulling the 1k entries thing from, I’m not trying to be a dick but honestly, how many turnouts is tekken getting nowadays? Like honestly, if they ran T6 at this point how many entries do you really think it would get with TTT2 on the horizon? Even if it would be popular, the players haven’t shown up at majors to prove they are going to support it. It’s in exactly the same boat as BB. Like seriously UFGT7 had like what, a dozen entires? Certainly under 20 and that was a major and an evo qualifier, and that was for last years evo. I haven’t seen tekken on stream in ages, and I haven’t heard ANYONE say they are playing it. If tekken players aren’t even supporting the game ATM, what exactly would be the point of running it?

I 100% would like to see tekken stay in evo, and if TTT2 was going to be out in time then I guarantee it would be in. But its not. Move on. And I really don’t get where you are going with the feeling odd because they get less than ideal turnouts. So they consistently have low turnouts, yet they are supposed to support a dead game just to appeal to a fanbase that isn’t even supporting said game?

And again, please don’t take this post super seriously or as a personal attack, I’m just really not happy when people put words in my mouth or overreact to stuff I say because something I didn’t even do rubs them the wrong way.

TLDR

Isn’t Evo still a BYOG event at the same time? If so, there’s bound to be people playing whatever you want. If it isn’t broadcast on the main stage, someone’s bound to have a replay of it days later.
