Iowa: Maize of Defeat

Charlie, I just saw the new quote in your sig. Fucking win!

The TARDIS is my new favorite character in that show!

Gotta love Neil Gaiman for giving the TARDIS a voice. Hopefully they’ll give her a voice again somehow, seeing how she is technically a main character.

DBQ MVC3 Weekly #8 Results:
1st - MysticBill (Sent/Dante/Task)
2nd - M.C. (Ryu/Storm/Morrigan)
3rd - Olli (Wolvie/Zero/Task)
4th - Alex (Tony Stark/Mags/Doom)
5th - Jackie (Ammy/Dante/Dorm)
6th - James (…I don’t remember. It was Ryu/Chun/Zero once, then I remembered Deadpool’s Lvl3 hitting, and I think Skrull was in there?)

Shouts:
Bill - Felt pretty shut down during the finals, only to win like 5 in a row in casuals right after. My match wins need to sort out their priorities. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m beyond glad that you make the drive to these, because I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t be at any sort of level close to where we are without having you around.

Olli - I got lucky as heck during semifinals. After a few tweaks here and improvements there, I’m positive you’ll be better than me by far. Looking forward to that day.

Alex - I’m pretty sure you just did it for the tourney, but I think Mags needs to go on point. Otherwise, that’s a pretty cool team. Hope you find a team to stick with and fine-tune soon.

Jackie - OMG YOU BEAT ALEX. You’re getting tons better, now you just need to work on hitting your combos once you open up the other player. Dealing damage when you get the opportunity is pretty important. Hope you get as scary in this as you did in Smash (by that I mean REALLY FREAKING SCARY).

James - I’m of two sides on Bill’s advice. On one hand, yeah, there are okay characters and there are the characters you pick when you want to win. On the other hand, you CAN make most teams work, willing that they have some sort of dynamic. Case in point, my team’s best is Storm, and she’s bottom of high tier at best with Morrigan probably sitting at mid and Ryu a hair lower. Yet I know pretty much everything my team can, should, and will do as far as assists, DHCs, matchups, etc. So, yeah, you CAN make non-high-tier teams work. But in MVC3, unless there’s some awesome thing that keeps that team together, you’re probably better off with better characters.

Monitor fund is up to $115. I need to step up my game if I wanna get that thing inflating again like it was the first few tourneys.

Mr. Grog: venue open this weekend?

Alright, I’ve got the plan. I just have to get my hand electrocuted and I’ll be set

BBC News - Amputee Patrick demonstrates his new bionic hand

Never thought I’d be able to come to a fighting game forum for Dr. Who spoilers! D:< !!! Just kidding I watched it the night it came out.

EDIT: also why is this thread only at 3 stars where as every other thread id at five? coincidence? Iowa Troll hate?

We are the penultimate in trolling… which means it was probably us that made it 3 stars.

Curtis is handling that venue, I asked him last night what was up and he still hasn’t received a final say so.

New flavor of the week Bill strikes again! Mike WANT DHC GLITCH RAAAWR!

I’ll probably show up again next week.

M.C: I played really well against you in the tournament. In the end, I think i had to resort to double cross ups with dante and sent drones to beat you. I think you had a much better idea of the matchup against my team after finals. I agree with your choice to drop haggar and i am scared of your morrigan. Keep trying to improve your game. You are a tough competitor.

Olli: Why did you leave right away? I had combos to show you. Anyways, one thing my team does well is control space and i feel your team does not really do that. When mike gets you in a corner it is very hard for you to get out. If you used zero’s anti-air assist you might be better off. That would mean you would have to practice OTG’ing to task instead of zero, which i believe is possible since i do it with she-hulk. Also, you can do a lot more with zero. It would be worth it to take some time to polish him up.

Alex: I appreciate you learning new characters. In tekken it seems like you pick one character and stick with it. It seems like you can execute combos pretty well too. Still though, i would not drop chun completely. You were pretty solid with her and i bet there is more depth to her then you were playing at. Still, it seems like anytime you hit me you combo me to death. Keep up the good stuff.

Jackie: Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice Practice

James: I did not mean to give you a hard time but i did question your character decisions. All of us want you to do well and get better. Looking back at it now, trying to build you a team with synergy may be a step beyond what you need at this point. Your execution is not entirely there yet. Maybe playing ryu is a good idea until you can do moves consistantly. Then you can practice combos. Try to do M,M,H,S in an air combo and using deadpool katanarama as an otg to continue your combo. Also, look at youtube to see what other scrulls are doing. It’s good stuff.

That will be my last tournament for a while. I will be back in mid june and mid july. I might go to some cedar rapids stuff too, we should totally get some casuals there. And there are bi-monthlies in madison. We will see each other again soon enough.

GGs IA

Unfortunately I couldn’t get anything going this weekend. Sorry guys.

Like we’d trust a man with a burlap sack full of shiny Blakes anyway!

ONE day left to pre-register for UFGT7. At the door, the price is $10 higher, and you will be slotted into a bye in a pool (no regional seeding for you). Registration closes at midnight on Friday May 20th, so get to it before time runs out.

Pool assignments for registered players will be available on the website on MONDAY. Ultimate Fighting Game Tournament | May 27-29, 2011 ? Chicago, IL to register or learn more.

You know Mike, you can just put me down for using everybody, sure felt like I played all the characters.

Understand you guys are just trying to help, and I really appreciate it, but for me, a character doesn’t really fit for me unless I have fun playing as that character. Still loving Chun, want to work with Deadpool and I’m split between Skrull and Sentinal. Giving other characters a chance but they don’t really click like those 4, maybe try out Cody Rhodes…I mean Dr. Doom a little bit. Either way, I’ll be doing my homework on combos.

Alex, you’re just NOW telling me about having a kid? YOU’RE NOT MY FRIEND!!! :crybaby:

Jackie appears!

Mike: Thanks! I think I still depend a lot on random (I’ve gotten a little more familiar with Ammy/Dante/Dorm, but bringing out basic commands and combos are still in question. Still a long ways to go before being scary.).

Bill: I’d probably still be on square one if it weren’t for your advice. I’m practicing, and hopefully those combos will be in my play by the next time.

James: Voting Skrull, b/c it seems like you’ve used him for a while, and Sentinel not so much.

Alex: I got lucky! Honestly all I remember is losing Ammy/Dante like that after gravity shqueez

Olli: Didn’t get to play you much this week, hopefully I’ll be able to give you a challenge someday.

gg’s all around!

owell, good thing it’s the end of the world tomorrow or I’d be bored as fuck

We need some sort of table tennis league up in here.

What a coincidence, I’m drunk as fuck!

hmmm, I do not like this new style
