I was impressed with all of you that came up, everyone was actually really good and you guys all could be as good or better than me with some fine tuning and a small amount of work, the only thing I can say for sure is everyone needs to advancing guard more, if you don’t you can be locked down forever with ease.
Game knowledge (System, Characters, Matchups, and Theory) is really all I use to win, my execution isn’t that great, and I don’t play that much. Team composition puts you at an advantage or disadvantage before the match even starts, right now I try to make all my teams so that if I get a hit I can kill any of your characters without using x-factor. I try to pick assists that compliment each other instead of two of the same like 2 beams, 2 get off mes or 2 otgs. And I try to avoid using a character just for an assist, even though I use Tron for example it’s not just for her assist (I use her on point), I like the character, she has decent mixups considering a throw or hit leads to 100%, and her damage potential is 100% with the right person to dhc into. With a few exceptions every character can be good in some way, I barely consider Tron mid tier for example. If you use Captain America, Deadpool, Ryu, Thor, Hagger, and some others you’re already at a disadvantage before the match starts, I would suggest you rethink your team, although even the lowest tier characters can do something in this game (except Thor ;_; ). Some matchups in this game are brutal, and virtually unwinnable, unlike SF4 where even Seth v Zangief is at worst around 8-2. Magneto with Dante assist is 999-1 v Hagger, if that matchup happens and we’re both high level players the Magneto should never lose. Sorry to use a real example but if you have a team like Ryu Storm Hagger, where all your characters get beat by Magneto you are going to need some kind of counterpick or at least a pick to make it even otherwise the first decent Magneto player you fight will beat you.

Keranata - I’ve thought about it all weekend, and…I’ve really not been much of one to completely drop characters because of match-ups before. Not gonna start now. I’ve beaten Melee IC’s with Yoshi and taken 3S tourneys with Twelve. I’ll make this team shine.
Got your stick mostly fixed up grog. put red and black buttons and a red meshball on it to give it more of a deadpool feel to it. It’s still seems kinda goofy with the left direction in 360 mode so i think it may be the pcb on the jlf that’s been goofing up on you. I’ll try and get to that tonight aftyer i finish up figgy’s dual mod.
karenata is the best marvel 3 player in WI and he’s right it doesn’t have anything to do with godlike execution or because of some parlor tricks, and on top of that it’s true you can’t just play whoever the fuck you want. maybe it will work against your friends who don’t get it but when it comes time to play someone who really knows what the fuck they are doing you’re gonna wish you have everything going for you. Despite how much you are in love with a particular team, I think it’s better to decide what one or maybe 2 characters you want to play and then build the team around that.
Yeah, but it’s not like I’m picking Team Insert-Nerd-Theme-Here or going low-tier or something. And 2 months into a game is a little early to write off Ryu/Storm/Haggar because I lost one tourney. I knew Magneto was a bit of a team weakness before I went to the tourney, it wasn’t some sort of revelation. He’s kind of a team weakness for EVERY TEAM THAT DOESN’T RUN MAGNETO ON POINT, though, so I’d rather just get better with what I have and see what happens from there.
Also, Dubuque’s scene isn’t exactly my “friends who don’t get it”. Just sayin’.
You don’t have to drop your team or whatever, but if you have a bad weakness consider a way to counter it. Tron Dante Sentinel has a few so I had to pick up other characters in case I run into terrible matchups in tournament.
Sorry about what went down at Joker’s, guys. But all I can say is I told you what to expect. I honestly don’t know why you guys keep showing up. You got me to join from there, but we haven’t had second looks from people the last few times.
The way Mike wrote that, he made it sound that way - but what they are actually talking about is how Magneto is Mike’s TEAM’S weakness (he plays Ryu/Storm/Haggar). His team just got fucking RAPED by Mag in the last tourney - I actually think Sent drones coupled with Mags had a lot to do with it, but that’s just my personal opinion. But yeah, Mike thinks Mag is *thee *best character in the game (even though everyone knows it’s Phoenix).
I’m definetly going to take Keratana’s advice and start mixing things up until I find something super cheap with great synergy. It’s too early for me to solidify a team, at least. I haven’t even seen a fraction of what the characters in this game have to offer yet - so much to know/learn!
Still no date for the Dubuque tourney, but I have a questions for everyone here. If, and I mean IF this ever happens, there are six games I want to run but I only have a lock on 5 of them: Super 4, MVC 3, T6, 3rd Strike and Vampire Savior. The sixth game will be one of these three, CVS 2, MVC 2 or Tekken Tag. Want to go with what others want so whatever gets the most interest gets the pick. My only issue is I never owned a copy of CVS 2 so I’d feel stupid if that gets chosen and I have to rush to find a copy.
By the way, MK isn’t an option because venue would probably want everyone to fill out a form saying they’re old enough to play an M rated game and I doubt anyone wants to do that. And if minors show up to the event… AH3 isn’t an option because it’s a great game but I don’t know how many people have an interest in it because too many people are still probably xenophobic about it. And BlaizyBloo because Dub-town gave up on it a month after touching it. I’ll see what I can do about side tournies though.
Finally got MVC 3 and I need to know how to do the pre-patch Haggar/Spenser glitch. Just got to do it once. That and Zero snap back glitch. I love goofy shit like that.
There’s nothing wrong with your team but i think storm/hagger/ryu or secondary ryu/hagger/storm. hagger on the end is like cross your fingers and hope you get a lucky hit. Though i guess that’s fine for him since hagger’s always getting away with shit!!!
As long as the tournament ends up landing on a weekend I’ll be making it, whenever it is. I’ve got a copy of CVS2 (PS2 version) I can bring with me if you end up choosing it for the last main game.
Good to play a bunch of you in Madison this weekend, I’m surprised there are so many good players in DBQ. If you guys run a tourney, I’ll definitely be there.
