The majority of investors are only in it for the short term gain. They don’t give a shit about the consumers or long term repercussion. Without Bing Microsoft mobile initiative would be dead in the water. The Nokia hardware division that Microsoft bought would be useless because Nokia still owns their mapping technology.
You have to have a full echo system in today tech landscape, which means. Maps, Music+Video, Gaming Productivity, Cloud services, Mobile. This is one of the main reasons Blackberry is on their last leg. They have a shitty echo system. This is also why Apple it trying to have their own mapping service, Google can turn around and turn off the tap anytime.
For the past four years Microsoft has been trying to get Google to hand over API’s for YouTube so they can give people a great user experience on the mobile devices. Google refuse to hand them over. Microsoft even went as far as building maybe one of the best YouTube client for Windows Phone and Google sent them cease and desist letter.
So can you imagine if Microsoft have no Bing, No Mobile, And ya. Facebook would also be impacted because Bing is integrated into Facebook. They might as well close up shop and go plant turnips.

If I was in a position to know that kind of information, I would not be in a position to talk about that kind of information. Questions about any sort of future possibility or efforts generally would be unethical (at best) to answer or even meaningfully acknowledge.
Generally I’d think the kind of crackheads that would want to speak to future plans are the kind of scumbags that wouldn’t be allowed to have access to that kind of information in the first place.

Having regularly read Slashdot for 16 years now (should be about right, my userid is low six digits), I’ve never seen the “Topic” section before and am stunned at how shitty it is just based upon your link. If your story is rumor-milling off of a Thurrott rumor ‘article’, you my friend have hit the bottom and yet are still digging. I would comment upon the reliability level of PT, but out of general respect for a fellow flawed human I will just let it go. I would suggest a general evaluative metric for rumors would be, “If I were NOT a complete idiot, I myself in this position would…”.

U can actually build a damn good gaming PC for cheaper than you would think. I remember building one for a buddy a year or two ago for under 700 bucks. It had a shitty power supply and sound card, and a cheap AMD video card but he love it.
I don’t even have a sound card in this PC. 
But yeah, PC gaming is no where as expensive as people think it is, especially when you factor in the costs of peripherals, online paywalls and licensing fees on console games. PC games are always cheaper on release too, have sales held more often, and it’s the last platform to not have online paywall fees not a Wii U(lol) or PS3.

hahaa, all i hear is under $700 for one with cr*ppy cards and cheap parts while your telling me how inexpensive they are. My xbox 360 (with standard parts) was ~1/3 that price. I only play like 3 games (SF), so cheap games arent going to entice me. Dont really feel inclined to learn the details about building PCs and associated accoutrements (sticks, etc…), downloading necessary files while avoiding viruses in order to play fighting games online.
I’m pretty stupid and I put together my own PC. I spent maybe near a grand 3-4 years ago and it still plays the latest games. That said I use it mostly to listen to music so loud it drives my roommate’s gf nuts, watch tv, and write/work.
Money well spent, eh?
I use XP at home, best OS so far.
i got friends that make music (one is pretty famous here in the eu), quality sound cards to produce music start at 1200 euros plus it seems.
not interrested in stuff like that though. how much you think it would cost me to build a pc that can run emu from segas model 3? for games like daytona usa 2 (ofcourse taito x2 and 3 and all older emus that run neogeo, cps123 etc should also work on it). you dont have to list every part i would need (you can if you want), but a general pricepoint for how much it would cost me would be appreciated.
