Invasion Force: The Skrull Team-Building thread!

Even though tenderizer works after an otg shield, tenderizer scales combos and deteriorates your hitstun dramatically. Getting to learn how to use Stone Smite with Cap is highly recommended since its a very great combo extender and a very good mixup tool since cap has the cartwheel.

And basically, the timing on using tenderizer/Stone Smite after an otg is about the same since the shield otg hit leaves them in hitstun for a while. you just got to remember to call him right when you land then throw the shield. To combo after it is pretty simple. Just dash back and hit :s:. Unless you used up your relaunch already then backdash and do a Light Charging Star, then Heavy Charging Star to a level 3 or Hyper Charging Star.

I’m curious what people think of a Firebrand/Skrull combo? Besides the obvious unblockable setups, do they really bring anything to each other’s tables?

I couldn’t find anything that would help their combos since each character can ground bounce and wall bounce on their own. The best thing you can do is corner combo, then reset, call tenderizer, unblockable, combo again.

You can check out my Firebrand/Frank/Skrull video for some examples:

I actually had seen that video of yours Nasty. It’s what inspired me to try running Skrull with my FB in the first place! And I was actually using Frank for a while too due to FB being able to level him up almost as easily as Wolverine.

However, I’m trying to find a good fit for the team that isn’t quite as Frank-centric. I don’t think he’s horrible if not leveled up, but if FB dies before he gets there, I’m either forced to fight an uphill battle or risk bringing in Skrull to try to fill the gap. Any recommendations on other teammates that can benefit both Skrull and FB?

You’d probably be better off asking the Firebrand thread for that. Firebrand’s main weakness is his low damage output; he likes to have a second character that he can hard tag in (I think off of his wall bounce) for a touch of death.

After watching Zak Bennett play, Dorm works with Brand, and at the same time he helps Skrull.

Dorm is a good candidate.

Viper/Skrull/Frank > FB/Skrull/Frank

That’s probably true on paper, but
A) Viper’s WAY harder to play effectively than FB
B) I hate playing her for that reason.

Note I’m not saying she’s bad, just that I don’t want to use her.

After another 20ish hours in the lab, I’ve finally given up on trying to avoid learning IM. I keep coming back to Cap/IM/Skrull because I can’t get as much mileage out of any of the other assists I’ve tried and still enjoy playing the character once Cap dies (auditioned characters include Task, Sent, Nova, Wolverine, Spencer, Dorm, Vergil, GR and Hawkeye but exclude Wesker and Doom due to wanting something new). The timing on IM’s combos is strict, but I try to focus my play on zoning and chip to stack more meter for Skrull. The advice given above on Stone Smite to corner-relaunch with Cap paid off and I can do this consistently now, but I do find OG more effective for the post-Cap point in the match when I can use it to assist with IM’s keepaway. Since IM needs more help than Cap does at this point, I’m sticking with OG.

What would be Skrull’s best assist to help Haggar and Frank? I’m still hesitating between Stone Smite and Tenderizer.

I know Nasty uses Tenderizer for a really nice Frank level up combo. Haggar might be able to get some good incoming mix ups off of it with his throw.

Haggar and Frank both combo off tenderzer well. Frank can take two cameras and Haggar can continue after doing his OTG sweep.

Thor combos well off it with his h.mighty smash. So does Firebrand and Taskmaster.

Tenderizer seems nice for nasty resets (violent axe L during tenderizer then hoodlum launcher H but the timing seems tight). Stone Smite seems nice too but I need to learn how much I must delay or cancel Haggar’s ground pipe after his crouch H.

Hello again, Skrullers.

I think I’ve determined that no amount of lab time will really let me land combos consistently with IM online. After rereading some of the advice in this thread, I decided to give Nova another look as a middle char (thanks, klepto). The benefit I see here is that it lets me use the OG assist with Skrull while maintaining my ability to corner relaunch (Nova’s CR for the ground bounce). One thing I’ve been experimenting with is using both CR and SS to see if I can extend my Cap combos by adding a ground and a wall bounce, but this is kindof a lab-only thing since SS doesn’t benefit Nova at all in my post-Cap game.

My Nova game is total garbage at this point, so I’m going to have to spend some time in that forum to pick up some tech. I’m having a hard time getting used to that j.S. The easy part is DHCing Skrull in from Nova’s BnB (lame version ending in OTG CR xx Super Nova), which I tend to do when I see an opening to pop XF2 and go for a kill. I’ve lost several matches by doing this and leaving my opponent with an XF3 anchor, but I think I’ll get better at avoiding this once I’m more comfortable with Nova.

What do you all think of a Viper/IM/Skrull team? Seems like kindof a pain to play online but really fun live. I’m really digging on the Viper+unibeam stuff. It changes my playstyle to a lot more rushdown on point but it feels great so far. I’m not really sure which assist to use for Skrull with this team either, since OG seems to protect Viper better (which IM RB does even better but I don’t want to give up my unibeam), but Tenderizer can lock my opponent for a free unblockable FA. I haven’t really found a good use for SS with this team just yet since a wall bounce doesn’t really get me anything for either of them (or maybe I’m missing something).

I’d say go w/ Tenderizer assist.

Thanks, Viciou$! That one always felt the most natural to me. I may check with the Viper experts for their opinion too. I’m pretty new to the character at this point, although I did play her a bit in SF4 (haven’t really touched that game since before the AE/2012 updates).

I’ve run lots of teams with skrull since I’ve started playing mvc, but my favorites so far have been captain america (shield slash), nova (centurion rush), skrull (stone smite) and my current team skrull (stone smite), nova (centurion rush), dr. strange (bolts of balthakk). I stopped playing skrull on anchor because I find playing him on point is much more enjoyable. I just love his mix-up and reset game with assists, especially dr. strange. There is also tons of easy dhc potential.

One question I’ve had is which dr. strange assist to run with this team. While bolts gives great coverage, it can be kinda weird to hit confirm off of and messes with combos. Eye scales combos hard, but provides lots of lockdown for incomings and can save you from combos sometimes. Thoughts?
