This past week I offered to install Linux Ubuntu on my aunt’s friend’s computer. Her laptop is a Dell Latitude C640 from 2001 and it had Windows 2000 on it and took around 4 minutes to startup and was sooooooooooo slow. Pentium 4-M 1.8ghz, 1gb ram.
The only Linux experience I had previously was with CentOS on some of the computers at our uni, and I dabbled with the netbook remix of Ubuntu once before.
I was heavily surprised. Ubuntu runs at normal speed on her laptop and she loves it! I got all the programs she likes to use and even taught her how to use the software installer. It’s now a usable computer and thats awesome!

So in light of that, I decided to install Ubuntu on my desktop just for fun and I’ve been having a blast! I enjoy it a lot and have since then been interested in purchasing a netbook just to install Ubuntu on it and carry it around with me for fun. I think Linux has come a long in just the past few years alone. It needs more smoothing out and some more development to make it an everyday OS for an everyday person, but it’s certainly progressing.

So, what do you guys think of these netbooks? Practical, fun to play around with, or a waste of money? Personally I think they’re very promising but I think I’ll wait for another year or 2 for further development and nicer systems, or so the current ones can get even cheaper!

So yeah, I’m just Done with Acer Computers. So i have this Acer aspire one net book got it for the holidays and its ok. 160 gb hard drive, 1gb ram. currently running Linux. (to my Displeasure) and one day the unthinkable hapend my brother had stepped on it causing the screen to crack. so i realized that my Netbook was still under warenty. I call them up and try to tell them what hapend to see if the hardware issue could be taken care of under warenty. but to my dismay i find out i would have to pay 126.32 USD for the damaged screen.

This was the same issue when windows xp had crashed on my netbook and i could not boot the system back up. So im done with acer, i hate their techsupport.

Long story short. DON’T BUY ACER!

I hear you on that! Exactly the SAME thing happened to me with a Asus EEEPC netbook.
(I threw my sunglasses on it, screen cracked, and warranty didn’t cover it… over 150 bucks to get it fixed.)

  5. I work in Signs and graphics and right at this current moment we’re putting the stripes on a black Ford Mustang GT parked in the yard. That might be no great shakes to the Americans here, but huge, gas-guzzling muscle cars like that are as rare as rocking horse shit over here. It’s literally the first time I’ve seen a Mustang. It’s gorgeous too. :smiley:

H.S.T. is/was one of my favourite writers , and somehow Terry Gilliam managed to really nail the spirit of the book. I don’t think it could have been cast better too, Depp and Del Toro were fucking great in it.
