Interest Check: Kickstarter for custom "universal" stick gates (now with CAD drawings!)

Yep

So in!

This is a project I’d support!

for @Moonchilde

I’ll throw some cash his way if he launches a Kickstarter.
It give me more of a excuse to get a hayabusa

I’m interested in hearing more as an FE owner.

Go ahead and do this!

I don’t think it’s a bad idea at all even if I’m happy with the Hayabusa as it is…
I doubt Hori’s going to tackle this… The H-stick would have had a different style base, otherwise.

Oh, and I HAVE broken a JLF gate base, too. (Note: => NOT the insert, but a tab on the outer gate that holds the inserts.)
It happened after changing inserts one-time-too-often.

Uggh… Moonchilde had to go ahead and remind of another not-pleasant JLF memory! LOL

I’m in.

Yup, you can count me in on this.

Yeah, the one issue that has me at all cautious about up and ordering a Hayabusa is I just don’t like square gates.

Square gates are l33t, doe.

Square gates are the default gate of every joystick out there.
Its the number 1 recommended gate for new players and its the number 1 preferred gate by tourney pros

I get all that, and I can play with them. I just don’t like them.

I’ve gotten to where I prefer circle gates. Square gates might be the default gate but that doesn’t make it the best for everyone. And there is quite a few other factors as to why “tourney pros” use almost entirely stock parts including the square gate and it has little to do with being preferred. I also hated the square gate as a new player.

When I first started using sticks I hated square and loved the feel of octo since it had a pseudo circle gate feel but still had the corners. Another reason was back then I used to ride the gate and would slide up and down the gate whenever I tried to hold back or forward, so I didn’t like the flat surface for cardinal directions… However as I started playing more I began to prefer stock gate for the more defined corners which, when playing on sticks with similar throw to a JLF or LS-32, I rarely ever ride the gate thanks to getting used to short throw and quicker movements.

Same story for me.

If I can back Phreak’s Link shaft even though I don’t use it, I can back this too.

Ok, I’ve done a lot of CAD work on this the last day and a half. Right now, as it stands, if this was to come to fruition the gate would be compatible with:

Sanwa JLF, Hori “SE” levers*, Hori Hayabusa, MadCatz SE levers, Qanba “SE” levers*, LS-33*, LS-40, LS-55*, LS-56, LS-58, and LS-60. I’m hoping to add LS-32 to this and maybe JLW. That would pretty much take care of all the Japanese style sticks most people would play on.

Is that enough sticks for you guys? I think this project has evolved a little bit, lol

*I can’t verify this 100% but Qanba and Hori levers are mostly JLF clones. LS-33 and LS-55 all use the same gate as the LS-56 which is the basis for the LS-58 and LS-60 so by design, those should work, too.

Wow. Such universal. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nice. Between this, PAS’ s universal plate, and PAS’ s upcoming adjustable actuator, customization will be much easier all around.

You had me at JLW.
