Hi I’m goint to mod my old Interact ShadowBlade Arcade Stick which to me looks really cool, I now some people hate it and is an extremely hard to mod that most people will say “Buy a new one or look for something else” but still in my personal taste this arcade still will look amazing
I done hard to do mods like this in the past.
before you order up push buttons, measure the actual opening for each button.
My experience is that these buttons are 24mm and not the regular 30mm.
I might also want to look into the Seimitsu LS-55, 56 or 58 instead of the Sanwa JLF, as they are smaller joysticks.
Thats assuming you can find and match the bolt paten to the joystick.
Seimitsu LS-55 has 37mm height and Seimitsu LS-56 has 38.5mm height but I don’t know what’s the height of Seimitsu LS-58 (nevermind I’ve found that LS-56 and LS-58 are equal the only difference is the spring).
Before the JLF became the default joystick for the Japanese arcade gaming industry, Seimitsu joysticks and Seimitsu-clone sticks used to be standard equipment for home arcade sticks.
It’s been documented by other SRK owners who own retro-sticks that some Capcom and Sega joysticks did use Seimitsu components (usually modified or cloned joystick parts) in them. A lot of people have refurbished retro-sticks like these by buying compatible LS-56 or LS-40 parts.
(The LS-32 isn’t used in older joysticks so much because it’s a tank in comparison to the smaller Seimitsu joysticks. It’s the most popular replacement for the Sanwa JLF in Hori and Mad Catz cases because a) it’s compatible with the existing joystick harness and mounting area and the cases have the space to accommodate the LS-32; b) it has a PCB “-01” version that works fine with the harness; c) across the board, it’s probably the most versatile and generally most comfortable Seimitsu joystick (opinion that many other people share); and d) you can find this joystick in stock at practically every parts vendor that sells Sanwa JLF’s. It’s about as common as the JLF in-stores even if the JLF is generally the OEM control lever in most mass-market joystick product.
(The other common Seimitsu joystick in-store is the LS-56. LS-40’s, LS-33’s, and LS-55’s generally aren’t carried much outside of Southeast Asian vendor stores. They’re just not that popular outside of Asia… LS-40’s can and do occasionally pop up because they were used in Neo Geo Arcade cabinets in Asia. They also have certain handling advantages over the LS-32 and shaft covers which are not available for the LS-32. The main thing I dislike about the LS-40 is the need to replace the stock mounting plate if you want to install it in 90%+ of the joystick cases made today! That’s an extra $5 out-of-pocket for a curved piece of metal that should be stock equipment for the LS-40 series.)
Oh, and the big reasons many of us prefer Seimitsu over Sanwa JLF are the advantages in throw and engage distance – those figures are rated medium or short in many cases. The Seimitsu joysticks don’t have to be moved as far to execute moves and the microswitches on them get activated sooner partly because of the shorter throw and partly because their tabs are gated unlike the JLF which uses “naked” tabs.
I just think the Seimitsus are easier to use than the JLF and generally more compatible and comfortable to use with more game genres than the JLF. The JLF is a FightStick best suited for modern fighting games – it’s horrible IMHO on retro-fighters; Seimitsu joysticks are ARCADE Sticks more comfortable across the board. I certainly prefer to play shooters, platform games (Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong, Earthworm Jim, Mega Man) and retro-fighting games with Seimitsu joysticks!
GeorgeC you are making a good point about this, I’m planing to use this for Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat like games more specifically for Ryu / Ken and their powers (Shoryuken / Hadouken) which seem to be pretty difficult to to if you don’t have a pretty good stick.
Right now I have a Street Fighter IV TE stick which I can use to compare what I want on this new project.
So for now I need a small Stick which should be an LS-56 or LS-58 or a JLF (in this proyect I need a low profile stick)
As you have mentioned other Seimitsu like LS-40, LS-55 or LS-33 are pretty hard to get and most people haven’t used so I don’t have too much information about those sticks and I cannot say if they are going to fit on my SadowBlade MOD.
LS-33 seems to be pretty small but I haven’t read that much about that stick and also is pretty hard to get it so that’s why I think my decision will be between LS-56/58 and JLF.
No thats not it. The Seimitsu PS-15 are still 30mm buttons. Its the openings (holes) in the panel the entire button fit into that determine the size not the plunger.
I mean once you remove the stock buttons from your INTERACT stick. Measure the openings for the buttons that remain.
No, don’t assume your arcade stick has the correct size openings. Measure the opening for the buttons before your order anything.
You need to remove one of the original buttons first and measure the opening thats left on the arcade stick.
First I had to remove every switch from the PCB and then I have moved the common connector away from the PCB
Then I have sanded half of the base of the Seimitsu 58-01
Right side:
Bottom side:
Then I created the holes in the PCB of the seimitsu 58-01
Sal_The_TIller I have plans for installing Seimitsu PS-15 buttons, Cthulhu PCB or PS360+ PCB, I have also plans for doing Select/Back + Start mod with other buttons and I have also something special with Home button so I’ll be posting here more pictures
I’m at the middle of the road, I didn’t liked Cthulhu PCB because in games the buttons are shown as 1, 2, 3 etc instead of X, B, A, Y so I ordered a PS360+ and I also need that blue button, later I’ll do the painting and least but not last the HOME button
The labeling on the PCB is ok, should be more like the PS360+ but still I think its ok because the manual says how it is supposed to but the the problem that I have with Cthulhu is that in the game when you are about to play the messages appears as “press 2 to play” instead of “press A to play” which I bothers me because I got used to see in games the XBox 360 Gamepad setup by default showing hints in games like press A to Jump B and they even show them in their respective colors.
By the way thanks Darksakul for your recommendation about the seimitsu sticks, after playing for a few minutes SFxT I have to say the Seimitsu LS 58-01 is much much much better than the Sanwa JLF by far, now my ShadowBlade is my favourite stick
Now I would like to know were can I buy pads (feet) for this stick?
