Insightful/Interesting Documentaries

Oh I forgot “For the Love of Dolly”, which is similar in theme to “I Think We’re Alone Now” but not as creepy. It’s about a few people who are obsessive fans of Dolly Parton, including a woman who presents herself as the most unfuckable female alive.

And let’s not forget the classic “Jesus Camp”.

Saw they recently added Jesus Camp to netflix recently so I watched it last night. I remember hearing about it years back and its as psycho as I was anticipating. If you’re a godless heathen like me who is in the mood for a hate watch, give it a whirl.

Practically anything done by Louis Theroux is good.

Yo, I was about to watch that tonight.
Glad to hear some feedback on it.

Thanks for the posts everyone, as I got me a list of documents I’m very interested in seeing.

I just watched the documentary about a sushi chef named Jiro. Meh, I thought it was alright, even stiffling, somehow felt like it lacked creativity.

Well if you’re at all interested in particle physics and the LHC I highly recommend Particle Fever. It’s a very new documentary and is still doing the rounds in certain select theaters. I don’t think it’s on Netflix, but I’m sure you could find it online somewhere. It breaks everything down in pretty simple terms, so you don’t really need any prior physics knowledge to get the gist of it.

I watched this one with the wife a few weeks back. The trapper makes the toughest guy you can think of look bitch-made.

Who is the narrator, he has always given me the creeps, as if he were a real life Hannibal Lecter lol

Thumbnail looks like Liam Neeson

Kimjongilia - Pretty harsh first hand accounts about life in North Korea from defectors.
Seoul Train - Similar to Kimjongilia, but focuses more on their escape to South Korea.
Second Skin - Discusses the lives of MMORPG players and the addictive nature of the games themselves.
Heavy Metal in Baghdad - Follows the lives of the members of (then) the only Iraqi metal band, and how life dramatically changed for them after the US invasion.
Crossing the Line - Chronicles the life of one of a small group of American soldiers who defected to North Korea after the ceasefire in the Korean War.

Heavy Metal in Baghdad was great! Crossing the Line sounds really good

War On Drugs. The Prison Industrial Complex (I found this interesting as one of my first documentaries i watched on this complex a while ago, and one part i believe in this documentary a guy talked about how we basically bullied australia to not legalize heroin or something by fucking with their trade. i’ll have to find that timestamp and edit it in later)

I was listening to some Armand Amar compositions when I came across this documentary on Earth

Couple of weeks ago, I watched “The Unknown Knowns”, it’s basically an interview with Donald Rumsfeld and his service under two presidents.

I dunno, it really reminded me of what the time right after 9/11 and hating what the government was doing.

VICE: Surviving Alone in Alaska

Pretty cool docu about a couple who are basically the last people in the Yukon.

The Ai Wei Wei one wasn’t deep enough, I read. Not enough good questions.

I forgot to check this one out, when borrowing some netflix, is it still on there?

The Fall of Fujimori (2005)

Freakin wikipedia doesn’t have the DVd cover, but lol, a crazier plot synopsis roundup
