Anything that gets a move to come out correctly is valid, so just use what works and whats efficient. The distinction between shortcut and proper motion is just something players talk about. Anything that gets a shoryu to work in the game is a proper motion, or the way its meant to be done, etc.
yeah thats how i look at it. but from what i hear, that motion isnt an option in other SF games like third strike. so not only can it possibly create a bad habit that wont carry over to other games, but i heard some vets say they didnt look respectfully at the practice. the whole “macho man thing” lol “i do my right handed sho’s by the book” and all that…
as for me, i tested the D>DF>D shortcut and it works fucking flawlessly! im loving it lol has helped my game tremendously. i can now dance the full distance from left to right with shoryukens and never break my stride. so thank you to the poster for that advice
The input shortcuts in SFIV haven’t affected the way I play other games. Sometimes I try to FADC or dash in SFII after playing SFIV for a while, or I try to parry after playing 3S, but I get over it after 1 or 2 rounds. I can still DP and do supers without a problem.
Really don’t know of the validity of DF, DF not being a valid shortcut for DP motions in SFIV. I use the said shortcut in really clutch situations with Sakura’s EX Otoshi to close the distance. I first read it online back when I was playing vanilla and tried it out. Works flawlessly for me, though you gotta hit the diagonal at the right spot of the gate. I don’t mash it, nor do I go for a third time, just two DF’s pretty quickly.
Generally speaking, when people think they get two strict DF > DF motions, they actually hit a third direction at some part of the input, even if it’s only a frame off. Apparently, someone tried frame perfect DF x 2 on the PC version of SF4 and got nothing. The DP requires three inputs.
Agree, Directional leniency as Shodan said above. The shortcuts are working off allowing any 3 points in a particular direction to count as a valid input. I.e. for the first forward it will accept Up-forward, forward and down-forward but NOT down to start the DP motion.
Its the reason why Balrogs Headbutt to Ultra 1 works. Its still strict but not if you use any of the 3 acceptable input points.
i’m just a newb but i think short cuts are good hehe. better off learning your chr as easy as possible then later on try to polish it!
but i think short cuts are needed sometimes too. in marvel vs capcom 3 for example i can’t get specers air grapple off fast unless i do down, forward, motion vs the inteded up, then down forward
