So we have Arcade, PS3, and 360.
As far as input lag goes it’s obviously best to play in the arcade (no input lag?)
Followed by the 360 (I think I’ve heard the console lags around 5 frames) which is just short of the PS3 I hear.
But what about PC? I’m certainly looking forward to picking up AE when it hits PC considering the PC version of vanilla was apparently the most polished of the lot.
But is there an easy/effective way to measure my rigs input lag? Hell I’d love to throw down some money on a new video card/whatever if it meant possibly lag free AE. The arcade edition WAS a PC with XP embedded. Hardware shouldn’t be a problem to match realistically.
You will always have input lag unless you’re playing on a CRT type monitor.
PC has more variables for causing input delay, such as V-sync and Triple buffering. So the 360 version is probably best. Upgrading your video card won’t do jack shit for input delay it will only boost framerates. It’s all about the monitor, that is what matters. and the monitors settings, and how the game is coded. If you care so much about input delay (I wouldn’t if I were you) then you must concentrate on never playing online and also you must hunt down the fastest response monitor available or use a CRT monitor.
If we’re talking about the frame delay (not input lag), I believe 360 runs faster than both Arcade and PS3.
The Taito Type X2 the arcade baord that runs SSF4 is a PC.
Not that I’m aware of, an you’d really have to measure the input lag of other systems in order to do comparisons.
It’s also a stripped down system running embedded XP, using software designed strictly for the hardware within.
That’s not the same as just running a retail copy on a PC.
My TV on;y has one frame of lag native on all HDMI things. I wonder how it will work out for PC? I can make the resolution like incredibly high on those things.
When it comes to input delay, the PC version runs with the same amount of inherent input lag as the 360 (5 frames).
I actually have a nice CRT monitor but was looking to upgrade to the Evo monitor considering they aren’t terribly expensive.
But honestly the monitor is something else entirely for a different thread. I’m here just to talk about the consoles/rigs/whatever playing the game.
I don’t see how changing cards won’t change anything. The 360 has a certain amount of lag and so does the PS3, its hardware.
Different computers would have different amounts of this as well. So changing my hardware should change this. Unless of course it’s something with some software/firmware/OS. In which case it’s something I can still tinker with or change. Even if I had to use linux/XP/whatever I’d be down to craft a custom rig for SF. I barely get to play games anymore and when I do its a SF.
And yea I don’t play online a lot. We mostly play local matches. I was peaking at our player card in Marvel earlier and we have well over a hundred hours local and maybe thirty online. Most of which were actually my roommate
Really? Is there any source to confirm this? I haven’t heard that the arcade lacks any frame delay, but I’ve always heard it was better than the console versions.
But yes, I did mean frame delay.
Hmm, read what I posted above. I don’t see how that could be the case with the plethora of computer hardware out there. This just can’t be true. The answer would be more complex I imagine.
