Inkblots post on frontpage

ink is saying “Don’t brag about getting top 8”, not “if you don’t place #1, you’re shit”.

So calm down, ladies.

^, I’m calm… just stirring the pot really; not like there’s much else to talk about.

It’s not that big a deal. Not nearly as big as things were to you 3-4 years ago, anyway.

So you calm down, lady! You got catchin’ up to do from, like, 2000!

You do realize the blog was intended to shut up bullshit comments like this, right? You’re blaming your losses on your characters, when really it’s you that lose. That was the ENTIRE point of half the blog.

CE - Tomo/ Watson/ Schafer yea i was around back then…

What I do care is that there are many people like u who are in a competitive community yet somehow only wants to play the game casually and thinks its ok and is trying to tell those that are competitive we’re wrong and should get with the time.

If you want to play it casually then fine… play it casually but dont say tell those who want the community to grow and be competitive in an international level we’re wrong and should get over our old ways.

Finally… I’m an American… and want MY community to grow not just myself… so I will stay in the US and compete in the US THANK YOU VERY MUCH

hands RenoROB an e-dollar

I didn’t say you were wrong to play competitively. Just don’t try to tell me how to play either when I don’t care to live & breathe SF the way you do. Nobody’s playing for the wrong reasons, the games are just older and don’t have the following they used to. Deal with it. Sometimes some newjacks might get 8th and be a little proud of it. Deal with that too while you’re at it. Why not be glad they bothered to learn your game instead of getting pissy about things?

I’m an American as well, and I want the community to grow. That’s why I bother(ed) with tournaments. You do your part (I guess that’s calling people pussies for meta-goals & such), I’ll do mine. E-THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Wadup Leonheart I’m cool now days man chill’n,gotta son,and married so shits hella cool.

I’m just pissed about this dumb ass statement from Valle and I actually respect his a2 and 3s game. I admit some tournies I could give a shit about placing 5th but some of em depends on who was in my bracket and how many “good 3s players” was in I’m gonna feel cool with 5th.

Hsien Chang was the best in 3s for a long time and I got 4th in that tourney and I aint no nobody cause I sent that fool to the losers in that tourney he just came out with the win.

Got 4th again the very next year but hell,Justin Wong took 2nd and Mopreme and Jack were 1st and 3rd!! Them niggas aint easy to beat they go toe to toe with Diago for godsake:annoy:

You cant tell me that people cant feel good about 5th place when the only peeps they lost to was Justins Chun or Rickys Chun. Justin,/Ricky thats 2 loses so I guess I suck!! Like I said they almost beat Diago!!!

Get outta here with that shit.
When yall was winning eveything games didn’t have assist characters and lil helpers like Eddie and Mag ifinates, and burts and damn near 100 percent combos!! Yao Ming, shit his way harder now. Why u think u dont see em taking eveything today? Cause they cant hang with all this new shit they put in fighting games now.:annoy:

Talking about yall cant beat Japan with that mindset STFU!!! I beat Izu with Yang in a tourney and that aint my best character and right after that he went back to Japan and won SBO!!! Matter of fact Ne did better than than any US team vs Japan with a score of 19-6 but nobody talks about that shit. Nobody gave us a shot at Japan IN JAPAN. So fuck anybody trying to tell peeps what to feel good about.

If you feel good about taking 17th fuck it Cameron Buckner went toe to toe with Cali and Japan and I say its cool!!!

Outro

thats exactly who i was thinking about when i was replying to inkblots post. from what i’ve read (unless for some strange reason kim is a complete liar and so are his friends) the guy has A LOT OF HEART for the game, and the way he talks about his struggle to top 8, well EVEN IM PROUD OF HIM, and i dont even know the guy. i think he has every reason to be proud of himself.

While it goes without saying that when you participate in a tournament, regardless of what kind, the intention is to win; however, I don’t buy into “winning is everything”. With that kind of mentality, say if a player places very poorly (which according to your post, is anything less than 1st place) in Evo, they should count themselves as “failures”.

From what I was taught, the only kind of failure there is in life is not trying at all, which if a player decides to spend his or her own money to attend a tournament they’re likely not going to win, surely there is effort there.

The analogy doesn’t apply, because if you’re talking about Professional Golf, those athletes do that for a living. That definately changes one’s perspective on winning and losing, since losing means not getting paid. Not to mention that these athletes participate mainly for the money. I don’t believe the same can be said about the majority of players who participate in video game tournaments.

I would say that if any person’s life is defined by how well they play videogames in tournaments, there are serious issues that are outside the scope of this discussion that needs immediate attention.

I also think that it’s in bad taste to brag about such things anyway. Personally speaking, it really shouldn’t matter all that much.

Here’s the meat of my disagreement; tournaments might be all about winning for you, but certainly it isn’t for me. I (and others) went to tournaments to meet new people, to learn new things, to see how my skills compare to others, and YES, it is about having fun. This isn’t a job, and keeping that in mind, if I’m not having fun at tournaments then what I’m doing wasting my money and time attending/participating in one?

Some people find their fun in different ways; some do so by seeing if they can achieve success by being original–not using commonly-used strats/characters etc

Some people find fun in pushing themselves to their absolute limit in their skills against others.

Some people have fun just being around others with similar interests.

And then again, some people find fun only if they win period. But obviously, these people are in the minority, for if they weren’t, then this year’s Evo would only have the top 10 finishers from last year in their respective games.

Play to win indeed, but not winning it all doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be proud of your accomplishments, or most importantly, have fun. At the end of the day, we all have to live with ourselves; if I can go to sleep knowing that I played my best and wound up in 14th place, then I am happy with that and will press forward to improve.

… damn, I shoulda just waited for benn to post…

Well said.

While placing top 10 at certain tournies indeed doesnt mean shit, really the double elim format is still the best way.

I mean you could just do it single elim and then have all types of randomness happen.

Maybe to you but not to me. Its not all about winning to me either. It is how far you get with what little you have is what I admire.

Which isn’t a problem, until you start going around SRK proclaiming to be the “King of the Low Tier,” and claiming to be a top marvel player. Then there is a problem, as per the article.

If I run a “Low Tier” marvel tourney, and win, am I a top player? If I run a ST tourney and allow no throwing, and win, am I a top player? If I play 3s, CvS2, or any other game and ban the top tier, and win, am I really a top player?

A lot of people are complaining about “I just play for fun,” when the article is about “People who think they are good just because they place top 8.”

You can play for fun/with low tier all you want, but when you start saying “I’m the best low tier player” or “King of K-Akuma in CvS2” or “Best Non big three 3s player from nebraska” that this article applies.

Some people think that they’re Jesus Christ reborn; I mean, it’s only when people pay attention to attention whores does this become a problem.

When someone says “I’m the King of MvC 2” My response? “Ok”

That’s it …

^Yeah, the crux of the whole article just feels very “How dare you?!”…

…I mean, why would it bother you that much?

You know he’s low-tier (or t-9th or whatever). He knows he’s low-tier (or t-9th or whatever). What’s the big deal?

ok pimp willy what international 5 on 5’s have u been in? what sbo champ did u ever beat…in a tourney since peeps love to bring up that casual shit.

what top player did u take out at tournies?

PEOPLE CAN SAY WHAT THE HELL THEY WANT AND THERES NOTHING U CAN DO ABOUT IT!

I just posted cause I was waiting for replies to my new glitch that is out. So in other words I had nothing else better to do.

Not you, Beavis… the author of the article…

I agree with Deus pretty much…as well as True Karate.

I mean, I’m a former MWC 'top 3’er and even then I couldnt’ve honestly said “anything beyond top 3…who are you?” Cause we all fought for hours and hours in casual and it was obvious that alot of people could come out the victor.

There are so many good players out there that can hang with anyone IMO…its just they are content with playing on their own terms. So there is no surprise if they lose in a tourney when youre playing an almost 10 year old game (as fun as that game can be) that has been broken down to 3 most minimum effort-maximum reward characters/playing styles.

Obviously, not being able to focus ‘under pressure’ is a factor as well, but still…
Not acknowledging the people with skills that haven’t placed top 3 is terrible for, like Deus said, a dying community.

A fucking agreed!!!

I know just what your talking about too cause we kept going back n forth with Eddie Lee, u,and Cen in casual and me or Datrick had a shot at beating Eddie Lee but we couldn’t beat your fucking Akuma in 2nd impact. Datrick was like the only person in that rcade that beat Eddies Ibuki but we he had to get pass you to fight em. And some weak homie from Ne ended up getting 4th and we were like howd his weak ass place higher than us? Oh that was the shit!!

Yeah sometimes matches are just too close to act like the other guy is just nothing just because u happened to win.

Inkblot played Bridget in XX, I’m not sure he stills plays it.

However, he’s making it sound like “2D is stagnant”, when in fact it’s still fresh with games other than SF. Now… to debate the playablilty of these new games compared to old classics is another question. I would infinitely rather play MvC2 / 3S / CvS2 compared to Hokuto no Ken, or SS Tenka.

And I guess it’s my favorite in the whole world, but fighting games in general are dying, so I’m moving on.
