This was a cool video of raven set-ups and safe demon form mix ups to have pressure afar and a damage boost is great http://youtu.be/zH8sJZAnwwA
I’m assuming Raven’s a zoning type character, correct? I’ve read a comment on YouTube (of course) that she was a rushdown character, but I don’t know. I could be wrong, but she doesn’t seem like an aggressive character (maybe because I haven’t used her that much). I’d like to pick her up, though.
Zoning with her while sitting on reusable interactables is legit against some of the characters. I would say a meter burned dash cancel of off an armored 3 is the only tool some characters have to solve that problem. There are times and certain match ups where you can be aggressive. I would by no means claim she is a rushdown character though. I do feel pretty comfortable being an aggressor on my opponents wake up if they are playing a character that doesn’t have a solid wake up option.
In playing a lot of daily casuals with my friends I make it a point to not run away and actually engage up close. I feel that me having lots of close play time with her will only make me stronger. I don’t want to be the guy that chokes as soon as Aqua or Supes is beside me. It gives me plenty of chances to practice punishes, block strings, etc.
The only reason I would purposefully rush a strong player in a tourney setting is if he is outzoning me and he can be blown up for it. Like against Superman, if he is spamming jumping eye laser, I’ll use my trait and teleport while he does that.
Input the attacks early. You don’t have to wait for the attack animations to play out. Same thing with jump ins. If you jump you have to commint to the air attack and the ground combo early, it will play through. The only exception is when your linking seperate attacks togeather.
so normally it’s stupid to end your raven bnb with a MB soul crush for a measly 3-4% more damage, but if she’s next to an interaction that she can throw, the MB soul crush will give enough advantage for it to be inescapable. depending on the interaction, she can tac on an extra 15-20%!that’s worth it for the extra bar =D
That’s dirty, I dig it!
When I’m in a rhythm with Rav I tend to forget about interactables. I’m very slowly working them into my game.
isn’t it cool? i played around with it a little while in training, and you have more than enough time to do it early enough that they can’t even wakeup super out of it. i guess those interactions hit otg as well. i also noticed that if you hold your opponent with a MB event horizon and then throw an interaction, it will scale.
now that i think of it, you can probably hit your opponent with a MB soul crush>interaction at the end of a match so there’s no clashing business!
while i have you on the phone, what was that teleport setup you said the tymers found? i asked you earlier, but you probably didn’t see the quote in the injustice general discussion thread.
Do you guys notice how match up dependent the game is, especially for Raven? I can see her beating a character like Deathstroke all day, but I play a pretty solid Aquaman offline for a few hours everyday and I do squeak some wins by, but it seems horrendously one sided.
All Aquaman (or anyone for that matter) has to do is walk towards raven, crouch projectiles and only dash after a blocked soul crush. Once he is inside, it is very one sided. I can punish a poorly planned string with a soul crush MB combo on recovery, or a single move with an armored 3, but that’s really it.
You can’t jump in on him, (His D2 is gdlk and only 7 frame start up) He beats her preemptively air to air and don’t even try to anti air him unless you are doing a fairly slow singularity.
In this situation, I try to fish around, play footsies up close and eventually try to land something to push away, like a string or the B1 BNB combo and finish with a Meter Burn B2,3 trait to try to zone with pillars.I’m thinking my best chance is to take advantage and use the trait safely on every opportunity. Also to be conscious of my meter versus his, especially late in the match when clashes become a part of the game.
Any tips guys?
okay, so i’ve learned a couple things about raven:
B3 is +11 on block, and her F222 string starts up in 13 = frame trap!
i thought her 223 string could be interrupted, but i guess it can’t. i was in training mode and D1 or armored B3 wouldn’t work. the only thing that worked was super. however, i did have a joker player interrupt that string with an armored B3 online, so that’s confusing.
^ i forgot to mention that you can dash out of the 223 string between 2 and 3, but i don’t think it can be punished.
also found something interesting versus aquaman. according to the game, this is the frame data for the following moves:
aquaman’s from the deep (ground trident) - 18 (i don’t think that’s correct, but it’s somewhere around there)
raven’s teleport - 18
raven’s pillars - neutral on block
if you run into an aquaman that’s full screen away and goes back and forth with blocked specials (blocked trident, blocked event horizon, blocked trident, etc.) you can make him block a pillar (0 on block), then teleport as fast as you can, and his trident will whiff even if it’s a perfect reversal. the only problem with that is attacking afterwards because he’s just gonna use his trait.
obviously, against aquaman, all your punished should be singularity grab, and any jump ins you do should be air 3.
