@Mendis, I would never disaparrage (sp) Ed (or anyone at NRS) for not having the quality of their title in mind, I am almost assuredly their biggest apologist. I would even go so far as to say they are one of the few dev houses (and yes, that excludes Capcom) with the kind of professional agility and customer care to ACTUALLY listen to fan input and make real dev sacrifices to make us happy. They’ve proven it on a number of occasions, and it didn’t take them half a year of approvals from some faceless overseas wire pullers to do it.
That said, while Ed has historically always been one to play (and who can’t fault him, you’d have to have a sense of humor to deal with this shit), NRS (or Midway) as a firm has always come through in a big way to show the game off when it counts. So even when Ed was hamming it up on twitter during MK9, they had a much larger presentation (even if it is illusion) of concern for the people who tolerate (and indulge) his playful side.
With this game (and this is entirely IMO), they have crossed over the line of playful jabs to an almost “you’re gonna buy it anyway, so who cares what we say” attitude. Compare the MKCommunityManager and InjusticeGame youtube channels, compare injustice.com and themortalkombat.com, compare the results of a cursory search on gametrailers, or ign or gamespot for articles and interviews. It almost feels like with MK9 they had something to prove, and with this its more “we got this, don’t worry. See you in April”
Now there are firms out there who do not care for their communities, Konami for instance is NOTORIOUS for simply pretending the press and the fans do not exist prerelease wether it be the next big a+ blockbuster or a tiny dlc release for some psn game. However, Konami doesn’t tweet pictures of characters who aren’t even being considered for their games while their official website doesn’t even have links to the videos for the last two confirmed. Konami just releases an announcement trailer, trips over their own shoes at E3, then vanishes for two years until the game is done. Period.
In the end, its an issue of respect. To most (including their shareholders) this sort of rant doesn’t matter, because as mad as I am, I already have my 60 dollars primed and ready, and lets face it, they have a LONG way to fall before they earn the kind of shit show reputation Capcom or Activision has. But the web is a fickle place full of miserable people. Everything is all good when a product lives up to the hype, no matter what was said months before. And even if you make a shit product and you’re endearing to your fans, people will fall on their swords for you. But if you make a shit product and you abuse your fans trust, they will turn on you and hang you out to dry. Just ask Denis Dyack.
We got a pretty awesome discussion of it going on over at tym. I don’t think too many peolpe here have picked it up.

Well played, NRS.
