Injustice: Gods Among Us; New Game by NetherRealm Studios

imo, neither of them “deserves it”. If there is going to be a “magic” guy, Dr. Fate deserves it for icon status, and Raven deserves it from a versatile power set stand point. The Zatanna bandwagon is just pulling a Phoenix Wright (ignoring context)

Higher representation of strong Female characters in fighting games = better

Don’t know much about Zatanna, less than I know about Dr. Fate, but I’d push for her over him because she’s female.

Zatanna and Constantine would suck in a fighting game. Honestly even Raven isn’t that great of a choice, all she really does is teleport and fuck with peoples emotions, which I guess they could use that and make her a weird gimmick character with like status effects.

If they really need a magic guy, Dr fate is clearly the best choice for a fighting game, his powers are simple and vast, easy to turn into a good moveset.

lol at people getting uppity about magic tiers in characters. I just didn’t wanna name an all male DLC and picked a female character I liked.

Btw Raven, Dr.Fate and Zatanna could all work pretty easily in a fighting game. Hellblazer is very very obscure imo and not a great fit for the first installment of a fighter when you have other options available.

Who said we only had to have only one magic character anyway? I’d love Circe to be added while we’re at it.

The problem is that fighting is totally absurdly 1000% out of character for him, it’s like I’m all for some interesting surprise choices and suspension of disbelief, but he’d be the last one to actually start fighting in an all out superhero brawl

I’d be cool with most of those characters, I would be cool with Fate (my personal favourite choice), Zatanna, Circe, and Raven. I agree with xes on constantine.

As an alternative to Constantine, how about Lucifer? He wouldn’t particularly be interested in fighting either, but he’s got the chops and it might get some good crazy reactions like in the old days.

Etigan is would be my magic rep of choice. I want to see that rhyming bastard in more stuff.

I apologize if this has already been posted here, but I don’t really feel like going through 61 pages just to find out. In this video Ed Boon says that the game will have something added to the end of the matches to make it more interesting, and there will be no tag team mode (but of course, Boony is a master troll so this might not necessarily end up being true). What are your guys’ thoughts on this?

Fighting for Phoenix Wright was also out of character for him, but hey, it worked.

Well kind of, I don’t know the new stuff very well, but the isn’t whole point of constantine that he doesn’t have much time for that bullshit unless he’s kind of forced?

He’s more likely to try to run some kind of scam on the side or sell ‘useful information’ to people.

If I had to vote I’d go with Sinestro because the only Red Lantern I really know anything about/care about is Dexx-Star.

Just have him floating in a sort of see-through red aura/blood that functions as a hitbox or something.

Black Adam…

I don’t know if I would call a character with as much girly super hero baggage as Zatanna a strong female, but regardless putting girls in fighters “just cause we don’t have enough” is just as bad as leaving them out. Nobody casual champions Melty Blood, KoF, DoA, MK9 or Tekken because they have huge female contingents and nobody competitive cares if a top tier character has tits or not otherwise we would have a very different SF3 tier list.

If anything having more girls puts an even bigger bullseye on them for stupid character design nitpicks. (DoA boobs. MK manfaces. SF thighs. MvC3 health.)

Yeah and he turned out worthless. Too complicated for the casuals that wanted him, and ignored by the competitive who could understand him. The racoon’s a better character, the giant heads a better character. God knows how much time and effort went into gutting the engine for the sake of PWs absurd gameplay and how many perfectly straightforward and loveable characters they could’ve made with the time.

Zatanna’s standing as a strong female character in the comics has no impact as to whether she’d be a strong character in this game, or this games story. She could be the most negligible hero in the world, completely 2-dimensional as a character, someone whose entire concept revolves around “I’m a woman”, and be unpopular to boot. None of that matters though, because a new writer or a new direction can do wonders for any character, I’m sure you’ve seen it happen a handful of times somewhere. A character’s past doesn’t define their future, or what position’s they are allowed. Especially in a comic book universe (Didn’teverything just get retconned?)

No it isn’t. Especially not in a fighting game. In story based games, yeah, having female characters in just to have female characters makes it obvious. In fighting games, do you know how many characters are relevant to the story, have an original story, an interesting story, or even matter? Not many. Take SF4. Story: Tournament, organizer Seth. Characters relevant to Seth, or S.I.N.: C.Viper, Dictator, Juri, Cammy, Chun-Li, Guile, Abel, Boxer (8 of 41). Everyone else is filler. Every character, as far as story goes, is there “just cause there weren’t enough characters”. However, since this is going to be a relatively story-heavy fighting game, you have a point. If they put Zatanna in the game, yet give her absolutely no purpose, don’t do anything for her in story, and make her irrelevant to everything, then yes, they might as well have put in Krypto. At least playing a dog would be interesting.

I don’t understand your point. Because people don’t… I mean… what? You are saying because top tier players, who pick characters based on highest win-chance (because there’s money on the line), and casuals, who don’t rub it in people’s faces when a cast has more than 10% females, do the things they do… that this game shouldn’t have a good chunk of it’s cast female? Please, clarify.

DoA does not have female characters. It has objects that bounce. There’s a difference. But that’s neither here nor there, moving on.

It doesn’t matter what the style, there’s going to be someone who doesn’t like it. And in this community, dominated by male players, they are going to notice and point at the things “wrong” with female characters more often than male characters. How many times do you hear about Makoto’s hands, or Chun’s thighs, or Cammy’s ass? How many times did you hear about man junk, or sumo cheeks, or man nipples, or any part of the male anatomy? That’s something to note, especially since there are far fewer females in any given game (aside from female exclusive games, or Skullgirls). It’s simply because men more look at and find things wrong with females than males in a male dominant community. If female characters were the “norm” like male characters were, and female characters weren’t looked at as gimmicks or token characters, than the complaints would change, and be based solely on art styles or gameplay.

Bleez and her ass.

@Zidianne,
a) A character should be in a game because they are a good fit, and they are well designed. Injustice doesn’t need a single female character that doesn’t add unique value to the cast, and I’m sorry but within the scope of 24-30 must have DC characters, Zatanna does not. Or at least, not more than many others. Zero is an example of a character who may not be the most popular choice, but he is a great fit. PW is an example of the exact opposite.

b) SF has no story. No character matters. Period. Not one. Not even Ryu. Take any character out, the story still starts and ends the same way. Which is to say, nothing ever happens. Except Charlie dies. Still, that doesn’t mean we should make a bunch of girls or french or amputees just because it “might” be cool. No sex, ethnicity or nationality is winning any sort of affirmative action points for appearing prize in fighting games. Unless you think “the blacks” are really well represented by Balrog and Dee Jay and Dhalsim.

c) My point is this; tons of games have tons of girls, all those I listed and more. Capcom’s ratio historically sucks, why people hold them as some gold standard when everyone else does it better I don’t know, but it doesn’t change a thing. 8 year olds and homophobes pick characters based on gender. They find out Leo’s a girl, or Poison’s packing, or Heihachi wear a thongs or Zangief is gay and they can’t hit “return to character select” fast enough. Everyone else picks because they have cool moves, cool costumes, cool stories. Things that resonate with their particular fandom by design not gender coincidence. You think Combofiend uses She Hulk or Gootecks uses Rose because they’d rather play low tier than participate in a sausage fest?

d) You joke about DoA, and yet the “objects that bounce” have some of the most creative movelists, and most of them are intrinsically tied to the plot. All moreso than any of the guys, save maybe Hayate. You think doa players just hit random select and pick whoever because there’s a 75% chance of floppy tits in a tube top? No, even the most perverted eventually stick with one they like and after a few matches, Christie’s skin tight silver, Tina’s ridiculous cups and Hitomi’s impossible jeans aren’t even a secondary concern.

And lastly, yes, gamers joke because they are mostly guys and guys are dicks and sexist jokes are easy. But how are the white knights any different? You think an all male cast is intrinsically bad? That’s just as sexist. You think the scores of shirtless glistening beefcakes running around Tekken is any less parodious than Skullgirls? You think Hakan is somehow less offensive than Rainbow Mika? And lastly you think if provocative taunts and panty shots get abolished, stream monsters will just talk about frame advantage and crumpets during down time?

We’re talking about a video game here, man not a humanities thesis. Why fall into some societal political trap when we could just have some dope shit that’s fun to play with a beer and an internet connection?

Didn’t know anything about, but now that I looked her up she seems like a really cool character.

This man needs an award

Who the hell told you Dhalsim was black?
