Injustice: Gods Among Us; New Game by NetherRealm Studios

I like Superman being unreasonably powerful really, it feeds the themes of isolation and difference that are what give the character traction.

Him being out of scale makes him more alien and that’s good for the writing (imo)

xes, why are you using your alternate account Mendis if you are not banned?

Superman would still be ridiculously powerful because he’s as strong as it gets and he still has the best set of powers in all of comics. So you would still have that isolation story.

But he wouldn’t make other characters effectively redundant either, it makes no sense for him to be close to the Flash in speed-running when the Flash could just tap into more “Speed Force”.

H2H Wondy should own him and he’d have to win using his other powers she doesn’t have (Heat ray, Ice Breath, etc).

I agree that it’s important to our culture that Superman is Top Tier but he shouldn’t be as good as specialist characters (Flash, Batman, etc) in their areas of expertise imo.

I do totally agree with that, beating specialists is just silly (possibly excepting strength).

Kind of have a sore spot with Bats though, he gets so much plot-armoring that it gets really really annoying (case in point: the stealing GL’s ring thing, and I am no fan of the lanterns anyways… well excepting Guy)

The Sentry and Superman aren’t even close to equal enough to compare.

The Sentry is practically a fucking god.

Gladiator has all of Supe’s powers(minus all of that bullshit, like you mentioned) and he is also an incredible hand-to-hand fighter, and has been fighting his entire life(something that people really don’t consider during superhero fights).

Beherrscht dein xes die deutsche Sprache, oder handelt es sich bei ihm und mir vielleicht doch um zwei verschiedene Personen?

Sentry was one of the most realistic comic book characters out there.
His first volume was full of brilliance. If you didn’t read Sentry - Volume 1 (Sentry 1-5, the single issues with the various Marvel characters and Sentry VS Void), then you don’t know the actual value of the character.

You are my favorite individual on this entire board, sir.

Used to, but I’m old now and forgot mostly :stuck_out_tongue:

Sentry is a failed deconstruction of the superman concept.

Yeah, but simply for the reason, because Superman was the first one.

If you’re the first one to do something, no one cares about the following stuff. Most of the people probably know who the first man on the moon was, but when you ask them who the second man was, who was even at the same time in the same shuttle, they won’t know the answer, since no one cares about the number two.

Who did actually more than Superman? Spider-Man and Spider-Man is a Marvel character.
He was the first superhero, where you could actually relate to, since he was a young boy with everyday problems. He gained his powers and had to learn everything by himself, since he wasn’t Bucky and had Captain America, nor was he Robin and had Batman.

Sentry (because I’m biased) > Spider-Man > Superman

Sentry has far, far, far more common with the character “Miracleman”, than Superman.
The only few things that were meant to link Sentry to Superman were:

  1. his powers coming from the sun (which is actually different than Supermans solar radiation absorbtion)
  2. his Watchtower = Fortress of Solitude
  3. Watchdog = Krypto
  4. and the “S” :-7

Only four (debatable) things they have in common.
Everything else? Miracleman, nearly 1 to 1.

Spiderman is way more significant to comicbook fans, Superman is way more significant to everyone else.

funny thing about Miracleman (I looked it up):

He was revived in 1982 in a dark, post-modern deconstructionist series by writer Alan Moore, with later contributions by Neil Gaiman.

So miracleman is really the same thing. (And seriously the Sentry examples you list above are pretty glaring. Especially the bottom 3, there is zero chance that wasn’t intentional)

Supes is the go to target for that kind of thing, especially because that powerful pop-culture image we all have of him is the Silver-age unbeatable Boy Scout. For some reason that image really really angers people and they want to tear it down. I guess though that it works too because the dark version of the character would be scary.

And that’s the reason why Sentry is so believable. Comic book readers don’t understand the Sentry and he deserves far more respect from them than he gets. At least in my opinion.
You know what Spider-Man always says: “With great power comes great responsibility.” And he can only jump high, is strong and has a spider-sense.

Imagine how it’s like for someone like the Sentry. When you have far more power and more responsibility and somehow you’re not able to handle it, since you’re still just a human and every human is going to break under too much pressure.
You WANT to help people and you WANT to be a hero, but when you hear the death screams of everyone and hear them crying for help, who do you save? Who lives and who dies, it’s all up to you and regardless of who you choose, where will be always more. ALWAYS and it will never stop. And for every moment you take a short break to decide someone somewhere dies and you’re able to hear it.

So with the weight of the world on your shoulders - with millions of people dying on a daily basis and you hearing all their calls for you to save them - basically with the entire world screaming for your attention - is it really so hard to understand that maybe - you would become too afraid to go outside?
And as they try to burst down your door, begging for you to help, is it so hard to believe that maybe you just want them to shut up? And without even realizing it, you MAKE THEM?
And suddenly, the world is a little bit quieter. You don’t want to know why, or how, but suddenly, their are less screams to pay attention to. They’re just… gone. As if they vanished into thin air. Of course you wouldn’t admit it was you, it had to be something else. Maybe an accident. Maybe something else. Maybe… a Void.

A big fucking salute to the greatest comic book character of all time.

Sorry for the vast off-topic.
Looking foward to Injustice - Gods Among Us! Red Hood and Nightwing, my numbero #2 and #3, let’s go sons, let’s go!

damn you for pulling the ‘sorry for offtopic’ card, I had more to say but now I can’t :stuck_out_tongue:

Sentry sucks. I wouldn’t put him in a top 500 comic characters ever.

Being annoyed by people isn’t the basis for a good story or character. Sentry is like emo Superman and that’s why he’ll always be hated.

Anyway yeah I’m excited about Injustice lol.

Green Arrow makes Deathstroke even more likely, imo. Now he’s a major rival to 2 already included heroes.

People get hype when Asura, DBZ,etc do it.

Even in the Pre-Crisis days, Superman wasn’t actually invincible. DC comics still created villains that could overpowered Superman, and force him to use his brain.

That’s why old dic writers created Mr.Mxy, Darkseid, Anti-Monitor,etc as bunchable characters that Pre-crisis Superman lose to normally. .

IMO people don’t like Superman as a character, and anything he does something crazy…people cry foul.

I think sentry had potential in his first miniseries, but any potential he had has been ruined IMO.

He is a major rival to 3, Nightwing, Cyborg, and Green Arrow (and the occasional run in with everyone else). To not include him would be foolish.

I like the Sentry. I hate you all.

[/details] If it helps it’s not sentry’s fault, it’s the writers.Who knows he could be fixed. Hickman would be a good candidate to do it, I dunno it seems up his alley.

Anyone not named Paul Jenkins dropped the ball on him. He needs to stay Bendis since the majority of most crap with Sentry came from him. Though I did like what Greg Pak did with him in World War Hulk.

Wait so we agreed, O well, any chance to whip out the puss and boots image.
