His name is Static. JUST Static. As in “You don’t start none, there won’t be none”. Static Shock was the name of that goofy-ass cartoon sorta-adaptation of his Milestone comic.
That’s kind most fighters that have meter combo breaker. It’s less because of combo breakers are stupid, but rather because most fighting games allow the second player to gain meter. I think you just want to remove breakers from the equation because it’s gets in the way of Supers/EXs. It’s not like TVC where supers are basically unnecessary because baroque is ridiculously good.
As I’ve stated previously, my worry is that they’re too focused on making the action in the game look like what you would see in the comics instead of trying to make a decent 2D fighter.
Has anyone else ever won tens of thousands of dollars playing MvC2? At the same time, he was the same person who’s single post greatly influenced the direction of MvC3.
The heart of Marvel isn’t in any of the technical minutiae that make up the game, it’s in the feeling of “stress” and “hype” that you get when you know that a single mistake can cost you the match.
P.S. “scrub friendly” is a misnomer. If the game were really “scrub” friendly, then it wouldn’t allow all the things scrubs complain about (zoning, spam, chip damage, throws, etc.).
P.P.S. Yes I’m biased. Maybe it’s because I actually do agree with what fanatiq writes whenever he has the time to. Or maybe it’s because I tend to hang out with people who actually do love the game, like when Ryan (FChamp) was over last April and he was talking about how Marvel 3 is the only game he plays because he loves it and that he only plays other games (like SFxTekken) because of the money and sponsors.
Is Braniac really that obscure? I mean I know I like comics, but if it’s not Lex Luthor then if you’ve heard of a Superman villain, it’s probably Braniac. I don’t know what their ratio of villains from different franchises is going to be, but I’d rather have Zod and Braniac over a bunch of Bat-villains that need some kind of gimmick to be strong enough to fight anyone. Luthor power-suit stuff gets old really fast.
All of the MK games from 5 to vsDC were fun in their own way for MK fans, but it was the wrong approach to try and turn MK into some sort of pseudo-Tekken game where you can just pull out a weapon at random times. It looks like they are trying to do something original with this game, and unless it’s really repetitive stuff to where you’re basically throwing cars and objects on moving terrain, Smash Brothers style, I think they are making the right decision.
The thing is, removing the regular level playing field isn’t going to make the game less of a fighter. It won’t be as traditional, but that’s not a bad mark on it. I’m stoked that they are going bold with the game. I presume, after MK9, that the gameplay will be solid and I also take it that they learned from the crazy falling combat in MKvsDC so that they will actually put things in which improve the game. They’re already talking about each character having unique environment capabilities, which is better than what MKvsDC offered already.
That’s the brilliance of the system, you have to actually consider and balance the likely damage of the combo (especially considering universal block damage) against using the meter yourself.
The guy basically said it above, people don’t like the idea that they can’t automatically get away with the practice mode 1p megacombo they ‘worked’ for.
Brainiac can’t be too obscure, he totally became a classic diss! (“Listen, braniac…”)
Edit: I just noticed you mentioned Zod. The game needs Zod (if they can figure out an interestingly different moveset for him, although the equivalent of super-shotos would be kind of funny)
Well I was hoping for something along the lines of power stone or rise of the imperfects. Plus personally I enjoyed deadly alliance thoroughly, in fact, to date its the only MK I can honestly say I truly enjoyed so yea.
Let this game become good in its own way. It does not need to copy the marvel games to be a success. I’m not hyped for this in particular. Why would I be? this is roughly a teaser with minimum info released which can cause endless speculations (glad its gonna be 2d though). I’ll reserve judgement when more content is being shown. was NOT hyped when DoA5 first was being shown months ago but after the amount of content that got released and playing it I’m leaning to buying it now. Ironically WAS hyped for sfxt when it was announced…well need I say more? In the end we are at the speculation phase and until more info is released on this game unless your a franchise fanboy this game should not be dismissed IMMEDIATELY. Feels like the fgc should open up more since Divekick was generally hyped for its “unique” gameplay
I’d say darkside’s odds are large, and though I would have no problem with him, and he was okay in mk vs dc, he seems limited in how he can be implemented. He has the awesome omega beams and brute strength mostly, it would be like grundy with eye beams in execution though.
Honestly though I am normally against move thieves, I think Amazo would indeed fit (especially if he just copies powers to make original moves, like super skrull). Especially if this is one big free for all storywise. In that case a mastermind isn’t needed, just a believable physical threat, and Amazo fits the bill.
Tons of other villains would work
What are your ideas?
Well in my original post I did say I would wait until I’ve seen more to give my final verdict on the game but I was disappointed with the revelation that it wouldn’t be 3D. Am I not allowed to want a game to play a certain way? You just said your glad its gonna be 2D, why are you allowed to be excited for the news and I can’t be disappointed? Once again like I said Im still keeping an open mind to see how exactly they are gonna implement everything but I would have liked it to be a certain way. Is that so wrong?
Unless of course this wasn’t directed at me, then just disregard everything I just said.
That’s people being full of shit though. Divekick was hyped because it hit all the right references by the right folks and people thought an 8.95 joke was the height of hilarity.
Darkseid is almost too much of a gimme at this point, he’s kind of obvious. I’m still struck by the similarities to the MMO, which would make Braniac the big baddie (afaik, haven’t actually played it).
Darksied definitely fits as a bad guy tough enough to stand as the final big baddie. Other than him I can’t really think of anyone powerful enough to stand as a boss for a game of this magnitude. Maybe invictus if they wanna give one of the new 52 baddies a lil love, but I don’t think he has been around long enough to stand as the final boss of this title. The only other possibility that comes to mind is brainiac, and I think he could make a compelling boss. Should be fun seeing the roster unfold.
And while we are on the subject of the new 52, I wonder how much of it is gonna appear in this game. They pretty much went with the new superman look(and the old new wonder woman look) but I wonder if any of the new villains are gonna make an appearance. Maybe with animal man and swamp things new found popularity they might make an appearance, although id much rather have vixen.
I’d like to see 2 things in terms of characters: 1) a not male-exclusive cast (If Harley, WW and Rae are the only females, I’m not buying it), and 2) a not “Iconic Heroes and Villains” exclusive cast. Let me get some less-mainstream characters, sidekicks, some people who don’t even live on earth (Lobo, Lobo, please God, Lobo), all that good stuff. Lets get a Red Lantern (In addition to John Stewart: that is not up for debate). Let me see some of the Titans (Thank you for Raven and Cyborg, btw, but there are plenty more, even just picking from the Young Justice cartoon). I want to fight against Superman as Superboy or Supergirl. I want to curb stomp Batman as Batgirl or Robin/Nightwing/Redhood. Lets get Captain Atom up in this bitch, Powergirl, Static, Icon, Black Canary, Zatanna, Darksied, and, oh, DOOMSDAY! Let me play Amazo (Still a stupid name)- OH! - he could get special character specific effects on stages based on his opponent, copying what they do! You could have Vixen as well, who does the same thing (maybe a bit different)…
Shit… I need to stop thinking about this game. I’m accidentally hyping myself up for absolutely no good reason. This game will likely disappoint me.
You fuckers have some serious battered wife sindrome when it comes to the shit that Ed Boon makes. At least SF4 came out as a functional fighting game. MK9 came out of the gates being fucking stupid.
So niggas quiet your hype down, I hate it when you get all happy for no reason. :shake:
Ya it would most likely be darkseid. As a villain he is one of the best, and when it comes to status he deserves it, i just hope his moveset is more creative then mk vs dc. Aside from the jumping stomp/beatdown, that was cool. Also I want his omega beams to zig zag, it just looks cooler.
I was gonna list all the possibilities from ‘new 52’ but I didn’t realize it was a 100% complete reboot of all series, so there’s a lot of potential characters.
I wonder if ‘power’ and ‘gadget’ characters are going to be the two archetypes they work around and how that alone will go in to changing up the gameplay. It would be pretty cool if Zatanna or - since we’re wishing for vertigo characters - Preacher could screw up the other player’s attacks though some sort of fakeouts or something.
Yes I know they’ll never put Preacher, Sandman, or Dizzy Cordova in a videogame, but I can still bitch about Vertigo needing exposure. I probably won’t actually care about most of the cast but MK9 made uninteresting characters (like Ermac) fun to play as.
The talk about that makes me think there’ll be some equivalent of “Create-a-Soul” where you can choose an ‘inspired by’ moveset but at some point have to pick a category.
