Initiating a Tick-Throw

I main Akuma and lately I’ve been trying to do some tick-throw setups both online and off. I’ve managed to pull it off once or twice, but often times I run into this problem where an attack comes out rather than a throw. For example, I’ll use a projectile up-close to put the enemy into block-stun and then attempt to walk up and throw them, but sometimes I just end up with a cl.Fierce or cl.Roundhouse.

Maybe I’m using the wrong move to block-stun someone. Not sure. What are the conditions required to initiate a tick-throw?

Two things:

  1. You must have frame advantage over you opponent. That means you must use a move that recover faster than they recover from blockstun (at least equally).

2)You have to be inside your throw range when your opponent recovers from block stun

More than likely, if you’re getting a close move instead of a throw, you’re trying to throw them before they’ve come out of hit/block stun. Your timing is just a little too eager. You need to get a better feel for block stun.

Despite what it may look like Akuma actually has really good frame advantage after the air fireball in most cases. Just try waiting a little longer before throwing, you’re doing it too fast.

Okay, I shall wait it out a little longer during those setups and see if that makes a difference. Thanks!
