Info on Changes to Guy in Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade!

Wtf…again why do people need a faster walk speed when he’s not a footsies or poking character? He’s the rushdown mixup type much like Viper who has a fast walk speed, but do you ever see Viper playing footsies? No. Her normals aren’t built for that either. So if Guy had a faster walk speed wtf are you gonna do with it? His dash is faster which adds to his mixups and slide is faster, he has more than enough ways to get in. Bushin Flip grabbing crouch is broke I don’t care how if it got nerfed. after every combo that ends in an untechable knockdown, you throw out EX Bushin Flip he’d get a free 120 dmg or force his opponents into doing a reversal to get out of it. This almost forces shotos to Shoryu everytime and get baited into taking more damage. It would be awesome but its too good.

guys doesnt NEED faster walk speed. his character type doesnt require quick walk speed to be effective

I’m really half and half with whether faster walk speed is really gonna benefit guy or not. As of right now, faster walk speed would definitely benefit, but how much it would benefit really depends on how much they decide to increase his walk speeds. If they make him like Akuma fast, that’s a lot more sweeps or far. strong into xx, etc. But, other than that, it probably wouldn’t make that much of a difference. But, faster normals with better hitboxes AND a faster walk speed, is a different story. Now, if nerfing Bushin Flip to 120 damage is ALL they’ll do to Guy, on top of all the buffs, is a fair trade for me. Bushin flip catching crouchers is ridiculous, it’s already a 1 frame grab, with a great hitbox lol.

Agreed. With the direction that they are taking him right now, if they were to keep everything he has so far, giving him footsie-worthy normals and walk-speed would make absolutely too damn powerful. I’m actually liking the direction they are taking with him. He’s looking to be pretty damn solid.

K1, I’m going to be online a LOT when the patch comes out; I recently landed a pretty well-paying job and I plan on increasing my connection speed to gdlk capabilities. Since the whole cast is getting some dramatic changes (Guy especially), an updated write-up for the match-ups is probably going to be in order. I’ll be more than happy to help out with that when the time comes. We seem to have a pretty good idea as to how this character works against everyone. :stuck_out_tongue:

@Shin_Kensou- there was mention in the loketest notes for ssf4:AE that guy’s strong was modified. but it didn’t specify if it was cl. strong or far strong. any word on what they did to it? does it have more block/hit stun. and with that and jab shoulder being a little faster… does far st. strong xx jab shoulder combo without counterhit now?

Sounds good that they’re fixing his issues. Hope to hear more. Would love if command elbow can cross up on all characters. It would make his mix ups so good. Faster walk speed is a bonus but I enjoy fast characters so I’m all for it. I guESA everything will be finalized in about 2 months.

Shin_Kensou, did you mean that all versions of bushin flip still grab standing opponents? I use mp.bf mixups quite a bit.

walking in and out of s.mp range would be a great tool.

@MADma3str0: not that i noticed, it seems overall guy’s pokes are about the same from what i could tell at the time. and sadly no, even with the slight increase on speed lp houzantou still doesnt connect without a counter hit from either far or crouching strong. if it did man…guy would get consistant knockdowns into madness. which would be great lol

regarding bushin flip:
-its literally the same all the way around in terms of usage. meaning the ranges on the grab felt the same for all versions. fp bushin still grabs jumps same with mp bushin and lp bushin is exactly the same. ex is the same as well, i didnt notice anything different about any of the flips whatsoever. just the damage is tweaked and again its definitely MORE than 120 hp for sure. so i’m not quite grasping why people are still insinuating its weaker?

also i cant agree with guy’s walk speed being ok in super. his whiff punishment is extremely debatable in this game vs his previous installments. while they made FF chain easier to hit its his counter poking game that needs work. i’ll use the video below as a refernce to the relvance of his walk speed and why it should be tweaked. in no more than 20secs into the match kiyo walks out of range from a cr. mk then walks in and gets st. mp to super.

granted its easy to say its not a3 that we’re playing here however most of the cast plays like their old renditions with some adjustments to accomodate SSF4’s engine. i think a bonus for guy be it wishful thinking or not is the ability to FADC tatsumaki. i mean sure he’s airborne but i mean blanka can FADC horizontal ball up close and he’s airborne so why not compensate guy with the luxury of doing the same? i personally dont think it will be broken or too strong but it will at least keep your options more open to either maintain pressure or keep the opponent honest. now i will say for sure that they should either buff the walk speed or buff st. mp. and most definitely st. mk if at all anything. again faster walk speed would allow for guy to dip in and out of ranges to annoy the enemy which can create more variety in his overall play. again as i stated in a previous post guy’s freestyle isnt all there in this game, his poking is just not strong enough. its easy to say guy is MAINLY supposed to be offensive but that isnt always effective in every situation you come across using guy.

i mean we all agree crouch guarding guy is already annoying because opening the enemy up is a workout in itself because guy has no system mechanic to help him out ala guard crushing. also guy doesnt have that safe random type stuff from the older games. what i mean by that is like in a3 you can do things like run stop to lv3 beatdown super and have a 50/50 afterward if they guard. maybe i’m just to intune to a3 guy and i’m still upset that he doesnt quite have alot of factors that made him strong in that game in super. hopefully the final relase of AE will have a ver of guy that is dangerous if used right…

Why indeed… I try not to think about a3 guy anymore cause it makes me fantasize how much fun and awesome guy would be if he took some of the things from there.

Ono said te cast will be getting new moves so wht do you think guy would get? It would be kinda cool if he can throw a kunai like Cody’s rocks. Unneccesary sure, but still cool.

i feel that capcom thought that Guys high priority option is to use the flip throw to score that 200 dmg. Most of my opponents spend the entire round trying to bait it. instead they shoulda just given more priority to his tatsu to begin with, im not liking how the hk version dosent hit grounded opponents, yet in the alphas it hit.

Heh, well. Remember, that’s what Seth said why Gen got his nerf from Vanilla to Super: that he didn’t play enough like he did in the Alpha games. At this point, he doesn’t need it anymore because of the tools that he has been given and the lack of tools that the rest of the cast has (holding down/back notwithstanding). Would it be cool if Guy had his old walk-speed back again? God yes. Does he need it to be viable as a character in SSF4? Not really. Whether the terms “viable” and “fun” should parallel, though… well, I don’t like to talk much about that since that starts a lot of arguments. :stuck_out_tongue:

They should give him the follow up kick he had to Ninja Sickle in Capcom Fighting Jam/Evolution and that teleport move from Hyper Street Fighter Alpha… wishful thinking :x
