Already been said, but seriously, commentators were shit-talking players for “sloppy play” in the regular tournament. If that same standard had been applied to the women’s finals the commentators would have been throwing tomatoes at the players.
Watching them try to be hype about really bad play was just pathetic. Of course, what else could they do? Being honest on the play level would have made the female tourney look even worse.
And awarding a fucking gold joystick to the winner of that slopfest was a disgrace.
Those girls would body 95% of u haters in this thread
have some decency, and show the ladies the respect they deserve
if u think u could do better, come to evo next year and look me up
a majority of u trolls have never even experienced the level of anxiety and pressure these ladies felt during the finals
This thread has no class at all -___-
And the players in the main tournament bodied ALL of them.
What respect do they deserve exactly? For playing badly? If that’s the case then you should be posting about how you’ll suck the dick of anybody who registered at EVO.
Quit white knighting bad players (which has nothing to do with their gender). It’s not going to get you laid.
I was hype watching the women’s tournament on stream, but now I realize that hype != quality. I’ve also commentators trying to hype up matches that having nothing of value in them. It just goes to show you that you have to make up your mind for yourself as to the quality of what you are watching.
On a side note, Americans seem to get excited over the most boring, low quality things imaginable. This is why horrible movies like Avatar gross $235 million dollars in 2 weeks. New TV Shows come out every year that are boring rehashes of material that has been reused countless times in previous shows. Just because “the majority” likes it doesn’t mean that you have to also.
Edit: I am in no way diminshing what Burnyourbra did. I’m referring to the other competitors.
Here is what I think about women tournaments :
I?m the first to say there?s no difference between men and women. I?m used to play in tournaments since I?m 9years old and always had to fight against those prejudices against women (and I also had to fight against prejudices about children at the same time since I was very young). It was my main motivation to be stronger : beat people that underestimate me because I was a girl. The difference between men or women is not mentally, they are as effective as men. I think it?s all in mentality.
In general, in all sports, it?s rare to see women competitive. They want especially having fun then the competition isn?t something they like in general. Because it?s a lot of pressure and a lot of persons can?t deal with that so they don?t participate in competitions.
I?m not a man but when I talk to my friends players that are competitive, the pressure they feel it?s like ?adrenaline? and they love that. I suppose men like more competition thanks to that.
I could talk to a lot of women players in the tournament. A lot of them said to me : ?How do you deal with pressure ?? You?re not at all ! Me I?m so nervous when I play !!!?
So, I think the main reason women don?t participate in competition is pressure they can?t deal with. AND here it was a women tournaments. If they have pressure in a tournaments with only women, I can?t imagine the pressure they feel when it?s a mixte tournament. I think they care too much about what people could think. A lot of players are machos so women care about what they think like ?Psh, a woman ? I?m gonna bully her she doesn?t know how to play? and this kind of stuff. They are afraid to play bad but it makes them feel more pressure. If they lose against those kind of people, women will be very frustrated. So to avoid this kind of frustration, some of them prefer not to participate in tournaments.
Even the comments like ?hey you?re good for a woman?? (whereas you?re destroying her) will make women ashamed. We prefer people to say nothing about our sex when they play against us.
BUT, I think a women tournament is useful in only one way : if they participate in the mixte tournament. So yes the EVO system was a really good idea to me.
Women are new to this kind of game and in those competitions, so they need to be used to that. They will be able to have more tournaments since they have women and mixte in the same time. They have a lot of works to do especially in mental and the way to be stronger in a fighting game. But for that men have to help them because they are used to play those games and competition, that?s why it?s important they participate in the mixte tournament : men have to share their experiences with them to make women a real part of this world.
If my brothers didn?t teach me the good way to think in fighting game and competition, I would not have been able to think in the good way to fight against the best players.
They were champions in Tekken in France when I was about 9years old. I didn?t play Tekken but Soul Calibur so they trained me everyday, they teached me how to think, how to play against each character and everything. They developed my mind game very very young. So that I was able to win my first tournament at 10 years old and then I succeeded to win a lot of other tournaments in Soul Calibur.
That?s why I think women need some experimented players to help them get stronger. I can help them if they still don?t want to ask to men. But I?m not experimented in Street Fighter I?m new to this game, but I still have 10years of fighting game competition behind me so I can be of good advice.
It?s also good to have the women tournaments because it makes women feel more integrated in this new world: they don?t feel alone, they feel reassured to see women in this world and be able to become friends with women that play.
It?s how I felt after seeing all the women players in this tournament. So I think it?s really useful to have it at EVO.
Thanks for the insight Kayane. To me, most of what you said is common sense. It’s hard to imagine someone saying “you’re pretty good for a woman”. I suppose I’m just ignorant to how some people can act without realizing it.
I also think the benefits of the female tournament are pretty obvious, I just wasn’t sure if they outweighed the cost of insulting all the ladies that don’t want to be stuck in a small pond. Sure, there aren’t many ladies with that mentality. Maybe they won’t exist unless they are drawn in by the female tourney first. It’s complicated.
One more note for the hateful dudes:
It’s irrelevant that the best female players can beat the worst male players. Seriously like ten people tried that argument. It’s also irrelevant that more males were offended than females. This site is ninety-nine percent males, there was no other possibility. If you’re going to leave a one sentence reply, choose that sentence a little more carefully.
Someone recently told me that if someone wants to learn the game and commit to it, then they should deserve respect. If you didn’t like what you saw, then should have walked off with your outdated mentality. No one cares or needs your respect.
First of all, thanks Kayane and the other participants who did the women’s tourney for inspiring a lot of women including myself to become interested in competing in SSFIV and other games. You really broke through doors this year. Secondly everything that you said I think everyone should take to heart when competing, male and female.
“I thought the wheelchair tournament was pretty good, anyway to broaden the fan base is good IMO. It’s obvious that there isn’t many wheelchair players that enter these tournaments, some may be intimidated by the amount of higher skilled players, I’m sure every casual players feel the same.Giving them some recognition will help bring more to the scene. I would like to see more people in wheelchairs play, and if we judged the tournament on the looks of the participants then no one would watch EVO.”
See, you can replace ‘girl’ with ‘disabled’ or any other minority group that has a perceived disadvantage (through lack of experience/participation).
There isn’t any convincing argument as to why females should be given preferential treatment and enourgament to participate (and cool prizes) above that of say, blind people, or people with mental illness. Now, I’m not suggesting being female is the same as having a disability! What I’m saying is there is no reason why being in one group that doesn’t participate because of cultural alienation and perceived ‘unwelcomeness’ than another. All the reasons why Evo was, apparently, an unwelcoming and uninviting place for females could also be applied to people that are blind or in a wheelchair. This has been said before, and glossed over/ignored nicely.
The truth of the matter is an uncomfortable one, and one that Inkblot and the rest of the admins aren’t going to admit readily. There is money to be made, and big sponsorship/mainstream success from female participation. It’s good for the brand. People want to have girls around. That’s the truth of it, and until I see Evo bending over backwards to get more people in wheelchairs or blind kids involved, I know this whole drama isn’t about equal opportunities of inclusiveness. It’s plainly and simply about wanting more girls around.
hahaha this thread is tripping, let the girls play, get them into the scene more (winner should get more bonus money for winning a tourney at evo imo). but on a side note I have come to the conclusion that i will open a strip club and have 5 sssssf4 cabs and they will ONLY be for my employees…and ice melting comps daily ! i can see it now …:tup::tup::devil::devil::devil::love:
Seriously how about everyone hating on the women having their own tourney just try to take a moment out of their egotistical lives and think about the women. From what I hear, most of the women who came out enjoyed the tournament. Not because it was an easy win or something but they can play one another as equals. They didn’t have to deal with guys disrespecting them. I bet they’re so sick of every guy they beat making up 101 excuses about why he couldn’t play his best against a women. It sounds like this gave them a chance to truly have fun and enjoy the game so why the heck not? It’s not about YOU all the time.
Who cares if EVO makes money from this, or if it’s because it’s so there’s eye candy. Forget the purpose because the outcome was that a bunch of women came out, competed and had fun. Does it really matter if the tournament’s real intent was noble or not? No.
