pay special attention to this one: T3 tournaments :: Marcus’s Taunt Edited picture by barzaad - Photobucket

i’ll have the match videos posted later once i sort em out and edit their time down… i got:
-Pat vs Bank (Vega on Vega)
-Pat vs. Tony (RAGING DEMON!)
-GhettoDave vs. Kyle (Random mirror)

  • G vs. GMac (G vs. G)
  • Shadow vs. ZAP… i think

i’ll post em when they’re up… and i was really impressed with GhettoDave’s random play

Taking that 2 months off of SF after the Gencon tournament was a terrible idea. I should have been practicing, I did some really dumb and random shit with Akuma that pretty much made me free.

I won’t make that same mistake again.

Good games to my dude Dom. His Rog still runs the show.

Blake here. Had a hell of a time getting handled haha. Seriously though, it was great getting to meet Bank, Tony, Greg, and everybody else. Loved the attitude and environment. Also, a public beating is just what I needed to spark a fire for some legit progression. Feel free to hit me up for some online play if anybody feels like an ego boost. Looking forward to showing up for random casuals on Tuesdays and whenever something like this gets put together again.

360 - Pi11 Oh Pants
PSN - nododgy (unrelated, but clearly fits my play style heh)

yo Mario/Indy do you know if that little detour we had to take to CBB3 is still in action… i doubt it but just in case… how did we get back on route when we had to pull off and go into town?

edit: yo Indy Dave pointed out on tuesday that the Marvel cab was priced at $1500 and the 3S cab was priced at $400 or so… the controls for 3S are wonky but Dave says that even though the cabs are virtually the same build, the game board used for 3s is waaaaay more valuable than the older marvel board… so cashing in now might be a good idea, the board itself is worth it and the cab could be fixed up and fitted to house whatever game you wanted… just letting you know man

Yeah I’m still thinking about that one. The thing is, I already have a 3s board, its just got a dead security cart on it. I’m definitely going to Japan next year so I could easily take it with me to the shop I bought it from and they can send it to the right people to have it serviced or work out some solution. At this point it seems that both options are essentially the same price but if I were to buy the one at Tilt, it would mean I would have 1 dead 3s board and one with an indefinite life. Right now I’m thinking that I should just get it repaired but who knows. Its also just not a priority for me at the moment. I have a lot of other, more important, things going on at the moment. Thanks for looking out though.

I’ve got some questions for Mr. Arksys Games:

Is learning Tsubaki a waste of time? I read she’s got some glaring issues Vs the rest of the cast. I’m also determined to play Carl and maybe Rachel. Hazama looks gdlk, and fun to play. I would play Arakune but the BEES! look complicated. haha

Ragna and Jin kinda bore me…no offense though if you like them.

I don’t understand BB:CS basic engine mechanics AT ALL. :wasted: The game just feels odd. I can replicate combos all day, but I don’t understand why they work. Is there a vid that breaks it all down, or a good online tutorial? All I seem to find is frame data and matchup charts/character vs character strats.

Lastly, is Mu 12/Platinum the Trinity any good?

Tsubaki is low tier but still very playable if you like her. I used to play as her a little but she pretty much does the same combo over and over unless you can get a chance to charge up her meter and I didn’t really like it. Her main problem is just that she is in a game where rushdown characters tend to be the strongest, but her rushdown just isn’t as good as the top tiers. She also has the charge gauge system that Order Sol has in guilty gear but without some of the important mechanics that Order Sol had to maintain the charge without sacrificing his offensive momentum.
Personally I find bad matchups and low tier characters much more manageable in this style of game vs something like SSF4 for the simple fact that you have access to a lot more general system mechanics, similar to how low tier characters in 3rd strike often use parry to make up for their shortcomings. Also, if you are worried about Tsubaki being bad, Rachel is the absolute worst character in the game hands down, although you will still see some players doing well with her. Carl is really good but he is by far the most difficult character to play as, and Hazama is great as well, although he can be a bit tricky to play effectively. Arakune looks complicated and he has a lot of advanced stuff but it’s pretty surprising how much you can pull off with just a little knowledge and minimal execution requirements. One variation of his massively damaging curse combo basically just involves jumping and doing a qcf and pressing two buttons then releasing them while still holding forward on the stick, then land and repeat, maybe with an easy launcher stuck in there just for some extra damage.

You can find a general system guide here
BB runs on a system somewhat similar to GG which was pretty much a ton of game mechanics from throughout the history of fighting games all stuffed into one game. There are a lot of things to learn and it might seem confusing initially, but the individual mechanics are pretty simple and straightforward for the most part. Compared to Guilty Gear, or even Arcana Heart and Melty Blood, BlazBlue is pretty basic as far as engine complexity is concerned.
As to what makes combos work it really depends on the character and the properties of the moves in question, I can’t really make much of a general statement as to the combo system. If there is some specific combo you are wondering about I could maybe address that. I can at least tell you that the “hitstun decay” or whatever Capcom is calling it in MvC3 is something that Arc System Works has been doing for years and is a very important aspect of the BB combo system. It is also the reason why Hokuto no ken is so hilariously broken, they tried to implement a similar system but in a different way using character gravity and the result was all the basketball combo infinites that you’ll see in high level play.

Mu-12 hasn’t been out that long and is not in the arcade version, but she seems to be a solid character, although I believe Hazama and possibly Litchi can shut her down pretty effectively. Platinum is not out yet but she was just made playable in the latest location test and seems to have some fairly solid and interesting stuff, especially with her random drive summons. She will probably be released for DLC sometime around the end of the month.

If you want to have a practice session sometime let me know, I like to play in person but I also have BBCS for both XBL and PSN. And yes, I don’t really like Ragna and Jin that much either, although Jin became significantly more complicated and interesting to watch in CS compared to CT, I don’t really consider him an easymode beginner character anymore.

And one more thing, all these location tests you might have been hearing about for BBCSII are supposed to be implemented into the console version via a DLC patch. Last I heard it is supposed to be a free update and is expected to be released around December or so, although nothing has been officially announced regarding the date.

edit: actually, after reading a bit of that system guide I linked you I learned something about the combo system that explains something I encountered while practicing Valkenhayn combos

If only we had a place where we could have casuals and tournaments all the time.

Then we could all chip in money towards buying those cabs. Kind of like Indy’s very own Keystone 2, like they have for Iplaywinner.com in NorCal.

Meh, like, even a storage shed or something would suffice as long as it had power outlets, lol. Sadly we got nothing like that…Or do we. Cuz i’ll be the first to say if we’re serious about buying these cabs for the Indy community i’ll happily throw in 200-300.

Thanks Effenhoog

I appreciate you taking the time to type that up. I like Tsubaki’s overall fighting style and character design, so I may take the plunge.

I’m glad they are just going to update the console release, instead of repackaging it and selling it at retail. That’d make a lot of people very angry.

I’m going to buy if for PS3 and go to work on it soon. I just looked at the basics and :amazed: wow I’ve got a lot of homework to do. There is nothing I hate more than getting hit, and not understanding what I did wrong. haha.

Carl is maddeningly difficult, but so much fun to play. It took a while to get his throw-22+D 236+A dash 2B 2C volleyball loop setup to work…they’d always stand before I got there. It took about 15 minutes to even connect it…let alone getting ADA to loop them three times before they tech out of it… :arazz:

Carl is prolly my favorite character design of all the fighters I’ve played.

If I knew there was an easy way to replace that control panel on the 3S machine I’d probably waste some student loan money on it.

I resonate with your sentiment. Honestly, I had been wanting to run an arcade, or at least something like it, for years (even though I’m not THAT old. Since maybe… 15 or 16? 5 years now?) But I think this could be the next best thing. There might be something near where I live.

A place that comes to mind is “The Fire Escape”. 'Twas an old firehouse in the Lawrence/Oaklandon area that has been converted to a kind of event space. I believe a church group owns it/owned it before. I’m unsure if it has any tenants at this time. I’d link to it, but I can’t seem to find any mention of the exact building on Google, so I’ll go by and take pictures of the outside and upload them Saturday. The inside is interesting, since there’s a semi-cafe area with tables and booth seating, then the garage which had been converted to a staged area, complete with lots of floorspace.

Yo is anyone going to seasons beatings? cause I need a ride to it

That, i’d really appreciate. Not saying we should give up on tilt, but…I dunno, it just doesn’t seem enough to have that space in the corner. Honestly, we could all just get some good tv’s and bring out consoles, but I’ve never even been to ONE training session with any of you. Majority of the time spent for me is XBL or PSN trying to get better through online. And really, like Mike Ross said in IGOTNEXT. “You gotta be apart of the scene, if you wanna get better.”

Yo shout outs to Kyle for missing another awesome time in GG.

Yeah I’m awesome like that

yea I end up learning more in person then through online matches.

Wait huh? o_o

confused I missed something? DX
