Indianapolis, IN: We do play games, I promise

anyone going to the arcades this tuesday? I’ll be going for sure bringing a friend with me so who’s down?

I will be at Tilt around 6.

Sounds good… what time does the place usually open up?

Edit::

this will be my first time heading to this place so I hope to see some good peeps =d bringing 2 peeps with meh so that will be 3 already including riot I want to see more NAP TOWN!

Chun/Ammy/Trish for the win! I can’t wait…

Speaking of which, is this t.v. any good at all?

It has HDMI, VGA, component, game mode, blah blah blah.

I still play on good ol’ CRTs, so share the wisdom ppl. I can get it for about 290 bux. 720p max

Should be open before noon but you never know. One day we showed up and it was closed for a private party.

Ray- I don’t know about TV’s but I know of some good game monitors.

Well, that sucked. No one was there and one of the sticks on SSF4 was messed up. As far as them running a tourney next tuesday, I would plan on bringing a system and some sticks because it might not be fixed. They said they would fix the right side joystick on the 3s and a month later it was still busted and probably still is.

yea I was there and they said that shiz lol disappointed… wth happend to the indy scene for ssf4?

The last 2 out of 3 times I went to Tilt = Closed for a private party on a 10 dollar Tuesday and then unplayable SSF4 and barely playable 3s. Parking, driving, maybe people show, maybe the games are working, maybe the arcade is open, etc. I’m not planning on going back for casuals anytime soon. I might show up for a tourney but if there is no winnings involved, I’ll just stay home and play online.

60hz refresh rate and 6ms response time are not very good. They *might * work, but it’s very questionable, and there are various other factors in HDTVs which can effect visual delay that aren’t necessarily listed in the TV’s specifications. The only way to be sure if an HDTV will work for you is to either test it extensively yourself or read about extensive testing done by someone else that you would trust to do it properly.

That’s why I (and many other people) just bought a monitor instead. It’s very simple to be 99% sure whether a monitor will work well for gaming, and there are some thoroughly tested models that are well known in the community, such as the Evo monitor. Of course, they don’t have a TV tuner so you do lose out on that part of the functionality unless you have one installed in your PC.

Or you could just get a generic display like the HD screens they use in airports and hospitals. They don’t have any fancy postprocessing features built in so they are lag-free, but I don’t know much else about their pricing and availabilty.

Where is my mvc2 im at tilt every tuesday if u want it come get it

Kyle, can you do most of the BBCS chalenges? I can barely get to the 5th one for most of the characters. Which character has the easiest combos besides Tager or the easiest use. Trying to ease my way into this game.

I can do a good amount of them, but I haven’t really bothered to try them all. One notable thing about these types of games is that you can often find an alternative way to perform a combo that does slightly less damage but is significantly easier. Obviously doing the most damaging combos would be ideal, but IMO in the grand scheme of things there are many other areas in which you could improve yourself and see a much greater reward than trying to squeeze a little bit more damage out of your combos. It’s more important to understand the general idea of what kinds of combos your character can do in different situations and try to notice parts of different combos that overlap so you can adapt them to different situations depending on your resources and positioning.

Also note that the challenge combos are not always ideal or practical combos used by tournament players. The last 2 or 3 combos for each character in particular are usually just fancy combo video stuff that needs a very unlikely combination of meter and positioning, but parts of it might be applicable for certain situations. You don’t have to clear challenges to unlock the next ones like you do in SF4, so if you get stuck you can always just move on to the next one and still get a better understanding of your character.

As for easy characters, I would say Bang and Ragna are probably the easiest to do decent combos with. I think Ragna’s gameplay strategies are easier to understand, but Bang’s combos are easier to perform and you can do decent damage even starting from a jab. Arakune is kind of a confusing character but once you get the hang of it his combos are surprisingly easy to perform as well. I can help you come up with some alternative easier combos if you find some characters you like playing as but are still having trouble with it.

I started playing Valkenhayn yesterday and he’s really fun, but I’m having trouble with his really fancy combos. I have a bunch of alternative combos that still do good damage and a few combos that do shitty damage but build a ton of meter (like 35-40% or more, it’s silly), but unless I can figure out one or two of the really good combos I probably won’t be able to switch to him completely.

Tilt was alright on tuesday… there was about 8 of us around 2 oclock but when we relized that the SSF4 2P stick was screwed up we had to migrate to T6 and MvC so they could try to get it fixed then we had to bail around 5:30…

sorry if you showed up to an empty arcade Mario man… but yeah that was me on the CBB3 stream… i’m actually catching allotta hearsay recognition for that… and ppl wouldn’t believe i was black

and for the big news, Vic says i can run a SSF4 tourney on the tuesday before SB which would be Oct.12th … he said even if the machine isn’t fixed by then we can still commandere the other 2 360 cabs and bring consoles to run it provided we bring a few copies of Super for 360… we can get all 3 of them if they’re all in good order and i doubt we’ll need more than that… anyone know how to link 2 machines together like Japan does?

i just need some preference with the format, i was thinking: $10 entry covers the tournament entry, venue and card (which we won’t need), we start at 1pm or so, double elimination, half the total pot goes to the winner and runner up (70/30) and the other half goes to the venue, and my personal preference is 3/5 rounds but i know standard is 2/3… is any of this out of line for a default tournament format?

it won’t be big, but i figure it’ll provide some good practice and a prime chance to get together for the Naptowners, and a nice purse for the winners depending on how many players we get (i’d wager about 20 players give or take) but let me know how this sits with everyone and i’ll finalize the plans with Vic… in the meantime just get the word out i guess, gotta let Ft.Wayne, Bloomington, and Purdue know

Kyle, I tried Bangs combos out and they were easier but somewhat faster than say Hazama. Seemed to be like chain combos and Hazama’s varied in timing which is taking me sometime to get used to. We should play sometime because I will probably learn quicker playing someone who has the timing down. I think I’m going to stick with Hazama. I tried Arakune and he is awkward but I can see how his combos would get easy quick.

Man I’m stock on some of these combos with ragna am I supposed to let the stick go back to 5 befre I press a direction? And then doing a srk with him and bang seem harder. I wonder if my stick is messing up.

Hazama’s air combo is weird, I don’t like it. It’s basically just mashing C but depending on your positioning it’s easy for him to fall too low before the jump cancel, and if you try to just jump cancel early you go too high. I have a hard time doing his combos exactly as they are listed in the challenge mode, I usually end up finishing them early with the j.214B because i’m afraid they will just fall out of the combo. He is considered one of the best characters by Japan now though, he’s just not quite as popular as Bang/Litchi/Ragna because he is trickier to use (and not quite as blatantly good as Litchi).

Anytime you want to play just let me know, I’m fine with hosting or traveling, or even trying it out online although I’m not sure how well that will go.

which combo in particular are you stuck on?

edit: I just remembered something that might be useful to someone. BlazBlue has a built-in feature where if you hold a button down the game repeats that input for 5 frames. So essentially, just by holding a button down you get a 5-frame plink. It’s not that amazingly useful since BB doesn’t have a ton of links or anything, but it is something you can do. I never really had a use for it until I started playing Valkenhayn, it makes one of his combos a lot easier to perform.

yoo quick question. I wanna make a FB group for srk indy. we have the forums, just I think this can help expand us and make easier comms with people? yay or nay?

sounds good with me

dunno i don’t FB or anything short of SRK…

Open invitation again for my house on Sunday. I’ll be here all day, stop by anytime after 2:00 if you want.

edit: Mario, I have been playing with Hazama a bit and his most stable BnB seems to be whatever into 5B > 3C > 214DC > 5C > 2C > 4DD snake pull > j.C mash 5 hits > jumpcancel > j.C mash 4 hits > j.214B.
Good players can get all 5 hits of both j.C mashes but I find that they fall out after the 4th hit of the second one a lot so I just end it early. The damage difference is like 78 which is less than a jab so I am more than willing to make the sacrifice for a more stable combo
