I’m trying to figure out what alters the state of an incoming character in UMvC3. If I jump to meet an incoming character and try to air throw them, I always get j.h. Are incoming characters unthrowable? If so, where’s the mix-up, other than dash-under cross-ups? If they’re coming in blocking, I should be able to throw them, surely?
I vaguely remember Gems Chen talkin’ about performing some kind of incoming action that renders you throwable, but I don’t remember exactly what he was talking about. I suppose it could be if you’re pressing a button, but that doesn’t make too much sense since most offensive buttons would beat an incoming character for a full combo…
Am I mistaken here? Is there something I’m missing? I’ve looked at the SRK Hyper Guide and even looked in my old MvC3 Bradygames Bible and neither are helpful with this subject.
You can’t throw incoming characters till they block something, throw out a move, or hit the ground.
So you can do a jab then an air throw.
Incoming mix ups are easy as hell in this game and greatly in your favor, just use some conditioning/reading your opponent. You can cross under, jab then throw, make them think you’ll jab then throw and beat out their normal with a better normal you have, you can lock them down with an assist and mix up, or set up by doing something like hittting them with a high priority projectile of yours (think Hidden Missiles/Sent Drones/Charged Voomerangs) grabbing evidence with Wright, power up supers, the list is endless.
