Improving rushdown in general. How has everyone gone about doing it? I realize that execution at the right time has a large part in attacking with magneto, and I can work on that myself. However, I still have trouble trying to break through that barrier that seems to keep people from really good rushdown.
I am trying to be patient in rushdown, but I still find myself running into too many things. The only thing that has been helpful is watching videos of top magnetos, and trying to understand (from what I know of the game, which isn’t much) how they rushdown. From what I can tell is the top magnetos put themselves in a position where they can quickly attack all 5 angles (throw included). This is combined with the patience it takes to find that first elusive hit and to keep putting themselves in positions to attack. If I’m totally off base on this let me know because I’m trying to understand the game better.
So, I was hoping to start a discussion on this. How did you get better at getting that first hit? Anything from improving your rushdown in general to specific strats against certain assists and teams.
Well, it’s a mindgame. And you should play it correctly or else suffer the consequences. Rushing down with a support assist, such as sent, keeping your moves random, and thinkin’ what your opponent will do next is all part of that mindgame. My suggestions is gain more experience fighting against teams and have quicker fingers for faster trijumps.
Well I just take in consideration how other players play Magneto, how they respond to certain situations and etc. Videos, Threads, and in person are my waus of better rush down, but nothing will tops these like practice. I dunno man think WAY outside the box, and try and make rushing easy for you to do, but very hard for the opponent to block or react too.
well, that comes with experience. but the thing that i’m focusing on here is execution to handle what to do next when blocked, because timing is different when you get blocked. so once you get the execution down, and it becomes second nature, then you adapt to what other people do, but you no longer have to worry about “what if i mess this thing up really bad”, beacuse your execution will be a lot more precise, or at least you’ll have to worry about it a lot less
I understand what you’re saying about execution. While I don’t worry about my execution, not worrying doesn’t prevent my magneto from getting hurt, dieing, or losing position when my execution fails. Good advice. I guess I’ll just focus on training mode for awhile, and work the rest out as I play.
execution = training mode/CPU
getting-the-first-hit = blocking CPU in training mode
overall performance = competition that could OCV you
if you want your rushdown to improve fight expert players, coz they know how to keep you out, but when you learn to get in…then probably any person you fight will get some beating from you.
Problem I have, is that I’ve spent years in the training mode to learn majority of infinites, semi infinites, combos for the characters I play, rushdowns, mind games(yes, even against the CPU I pulled this off) etc… And when I played against everyone within about 60 miles of me, I beat them almost every game.
It’s sad because even though I can run ROM all over the place, do near 100% combos and traps… I still feel I’m not as good as I should be and it’s what drives me to get better. I wish I could play better characters to get me back into the game as I used to be hehe. I used to practice for about 5 hours a day in training mode perfecting combos and it paid off, but it also helped me lose all nearby competition because nobody plays me anymore. It sucks. Don’t practice that hard bud unless you got some strong comp in your area.
Just a question…
when you guys train with a blocking cpu, which blocking mode do you guys use? If I’m not mistaken there are two types, auto block and normal block I think.
as for Tekkaman… you’re probably right in the sense that you feel as though you should be better… the only way you WILL GET BETTER, is by playing people that are MUCH better than you. i get better when i play javier, lincoln, pungza, infinite, remix, etc… i don’t get better when i play people that i can beat on a regular basis. i get better when i play wong, but i don’t get better when i play matrix (or at least when i did play matrix… i heard he’s gotten a lot better)
So it when you practice with all block on, is it possible for the computer to get hit by any of your rushdowns (not counting guard breaks and throws, unblockables and so on)?
when you have all block on, that is what the computer does. It blocks everything. You won’t hit it. The reason he says to practice like that is to learn recovery times when your moves are blocked and to get better at tri-jumps and such and keeping your opponent in block stun.
Having no competition in the area makes it really tough to improve your game… I don’t even know why I bother training in this game, because there aren’t any arcades around here, so I don’t even know who plays… and I’m sure that all the people who do play would just cry that infinity combo’s are cheap:p
Eh mang, you are so right about it being really tough to improve your game with no competition. It also sucks living in a city with good players, but then they dont wanna make time to play you cause you suck (or they think you suck). I know i dont completely suck (i been playin this game ever since it came to the states) im just not at a really high competition level that i wanna be at yet because of bein isolated from other good players. i really dont see how mofos get good at jus training mode…is there some kinda drug out there that makes em’ good that i dont know about?
Have you ever considering grabing the opponent after, to make them lose there concentration on defense? I find that people who are so good at blocking rush, can sometimes react very slow to the grab after, and if they roll, which in most cases they will, try and dash towards the place where there roll will end and hypergraph tempest there ass, I bet the can’t react that fast.
Another good rushdown tactic with magneto is his standing fp+storm projectile assist, especially while the opponent is blocking those rushdown attacks, them blocking that fp+storm assist will leave them in block stun making your magneto available for more tricky tactics, it’s a really good tactic to use, in my oppinion, then again, I am from Canada, and I understand you states guys are like 4 months ahead of us
Rushdown until the opponent rattle…
that’s the best move of magneto but not recklessly!!!IMO
when you fight against santhrax 4 example, use MSP…
just play calm… u must hit corner sentinel because magneto’s bestfriend is corner… So many moves he can do like grabs,he can penetrate, etc… The king of snapback…
hi im new over here =S, im from argentina , well that is all , i play mvc2 since 3 years and was in a lill tournament over , , well lets talk about this thread , when i do some rush with mag my best assist is domm (B), opponnent blocks and i jump Dash and that stuff . can u say what can i do when i do c.hk and oponnet blocks can i do some kind of rush so oponnet blocks crouchin and i jump and then hit over his head^^?.
well thats all.
It sounds good, but personally i wouldnt use it cause they can pushblock and get away it is nice for 4 points of chip if u add an em disruptor after the fierce. =D
