These things need to be known, and rather quickly as it’s on the verge of happening so make your voices heard. If you guys are willing to help keep it alive, answer these questions:
Would you rather the forum software be vBulletin or XenForo?
If we had Premium Membership, complete with the galaga shields, premium banner, premium forum, etc. for the price of $25 a year, would you pay for it? (Funds that go beyond the required monthly server cost would be given back to the community in something like a prize drawing, contest, fundraiser, etc. and how it goes back to the community can be voted on by the community).
If a new SRK had to be born without the current forum database, would you be willing to start new? (You would keep your current post count and original join date)
A potential new SRK could be by the members and for the members, and most of any big decisions about it would be voted on by the members in a public thread. The rules of a new SRK would also be identical to how things were back in 2000-Right Before SRK got a little soft. We also have some old contributors on board that have already done a lot of forum theme and website design work on the potential new SRK and are willing to create updated versions of every single past SRK forum theme, headers and all. Do you like the sound of that?
I don’t really have an opinion on which server we use but this all sounds good to me, although at the moment I’d have to wait until the 26th to become a premium member lol.
Thanks again for the great work you’re doing with this.
What I’d want is a management team that doesn’t suck.
Forums are old tech and need to be looked at as what they are. Legacy technology with legacy users. Even though we have less users, that’s okay, because we have much higher purchasing power.
What I really want from a new forum is for there to only be one. I think in the last week of this site being live, there should be a poll thread with all our current options laid out and take a vote. Site name, site owner, forum software and other bonuses pointed out for each poll option. If we make too many sites, one of them if not all will turn into a miniature fighting game forum kinda like Skullheart did. Last I checked not a whole lot is happening there.
I would definitely like to see if eventually, maybe not day 1, we could do a migration or integrate the archive in some fashion. I’m checking with vanilla currently hope I hear back tomorrow to see if the final archive will include a copy if the database.
If the site had a repo to pull down id be willing to do work to make that happen, or see if possible.
I’d pay $25 a year. New threads are fine and all.
I’m in agreement one single solution is best. That’s probably the most important thing.
Stick the rules to the front page and/or forums and make sure that your mod(s) and/or Admin(s) follow them. Two-way communication should be standard and enforced. It doesn’t matter how much ass I kiss. If I stick some naked booty in here (or there), deal with me according to the rules so that I and everyone else will know what’s up and why.
On that note, a monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, some sort of scheduled sitdown would be nice. I mean, look at the reaction to SRK closing. I’m betting This wouldn’t even be an issue if the cannons had kept us in the loop. You’re really going to open yourself up to a madhouse, so listening to the wailings of the psychopaths within it just might help if even a little bit.
For the purely superficial, animated avs or some other shiny things to wave in our faces.
I think we should just stay split up and each take on one of the these three names: SRK, FightersNet, or HerV… and let fighting game website history repeat itself.
