Important Annoncement: No Thugs at Evo

This is discrimination in the highest order.

I Shall Not Attend.

E-thugging’ out

Well, the moment he actually touched CableGuy is when he went over the line. IMO that’s grounds for getting kicked out of Evo when you touch someone like that.

It’s nice that you took a trip down from pleasantville to post that, but its fantasyland. In the real world, there are consequences for eveything you do and not eveyone has the same idea of fair. I grew up playing SF in a dirty 7-11 where throwing would get you punched in the face. Fighting over video games is no new phenomenon. Talking shit to someone would get you waxed with no question if they felt like it. I agree that people shouldn’t take it that far, but that’s not the reality. The reality is the moment you take it upon yourself to insult that person, you’ve invited them to respond and there’s no guarantee you’ll like the response. Right and wrong is irrelevant because speaking those words isn’t going to stop you from getting punched in the mouth. If you can’t take shit talk (which is harrasment by law isn’t it?) then you shouldn’t play? How about if you can’t take getting punched in the mouth maybe you should keep it closed.

adam: agreed. everyone is different. it takes a lot for me to get really riled up to wanna confront someone. but when someone touches me, or starts getting a little personal, then we got problems.

this is especially true if the person doing the shit talk doesnt even know me, and is not friends with me. everyone handles things different. i like to talk shit, but only when its someone that deserves it, or if im cool with that person and completely understand where the line is with that person. everyone has a different breeaking point.

you provoke and cross that line, prepare to expect consequences. thats just how it is, everywhere

Just curious. I keep hearing smoothviper is a pretty cool/chill cat. but yeah cable vs smoothviper, while MEGA HYPE, was kinda getting heated.

back to my question :stuck_out_tongue: Wasnt smoothviper like , hella drunk during that match? that might have added a good amount of fuel to the fire.

Pride + Money + Minorities + Marvel = Crazy shit

This is just a terrible combination. As if a grudge match can’t get personal enough, you throw money into the mix and it creates a volitile situation. A part of me welcomes this competitiveness because it makes things interesting. The other part of me can see how things could turn out badly.

no doubt man, i couldnt agree with you more that it makes things interesting. it is without a boubt, the most interesting and entertaining scene of all the fighters. but theres so many times where it can go too far, mainly with the people that arent really trying to hear all that shit. most fools in the community dont really care about it if it happens to them, since they do it back, and they all know its just for fun, in the long run.

but there are those that just dont want to hear it. that person that isnt all cool and chill with all the other players, and mainly just comes to play and get good comp and have a fun and relaxed time and get away from bullshit and stress.

everyone is just different.

Niggas talk crazy till u hook off on one of them…I see shit talk about my boy DP everywhere, all over youtube and srk but I also notice nobody will walk up to him and say any of it to his face because they know better. That is a good way to get yourself in a bunch of shit. Especially since it’s a bunch of video game nerds posting the shit in the first place. Dp is cool as fuck until something sets him off. He won’t just attack somebody out of nowhere for no reason, nor will he attack you for simply cheering in a respectful manner. Call a grown man a “bitch” or direct anything that contains “bitch” in his way and well you better be ready to fight unless your just a coward or a pussy. So case in point, call some nerd like that preppy guy a “bitch” and you will have no problems…Call a gangster a “bitch” and your gonna have some issues whether your playing a game or not.

All this thuggin’ drama is retarded. When pro athletes play, do they climb up into the stands and start slugging it out with the fans for the rival team when they yell stuff out? Of course not.

I agree with Sabre that gettin’ right up in someone’s face and grabbin their hat is already stepping over the line. Touching someone, threatening them with real life violence, or really just about any personal shit is taking it to far. Just talk some smack about the game and leave it at that.

Some of this stuff is how I imagine it’d be if XBox Live showed up on Jerry Springer. Have some class for fuck sake.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1875149266123369069

and you were saying?

I got in this exact same argument last year with the same people, Ima leave it at…
If you hekkle someone hardcore, you should expect confrontation.

A Basketball game(Or just about any Professional Sports league worth two cents) is in a controlled environment(For the most part). The Players KNOW they will get ass raped by the league if they ever physically responded to the fans(Physical freaks of nature vs A person that is more than likely out of shape).

This is in stark contrast,to videogames that are played on the street more or less.Besides a Police Response, there are almost no repercussions for responding to some random crowd Cheerleader with Physical Violence. The league isn’t going to suspend you,or fine you.At worse you get suspended from Evo for a year(Unless they start perma-banning people from Evo,which probably will happen in the future).

It’s the Streets.

It’s a sad state, but if you talk shit to the wrong person you leave yourself open for a response.

and this is the bullshit im talking about. you come in here already talking shit, about people, when we arent even talking shit to others. are you for fucking real? nerds and gangsters? really? take a look in the mirror, nerd or gangster, yall still playing a fucking video game with marvel and anime characters, talking shit over it, posting on forums about it, and traveling hundreds or thousands of miles just to play it… if we gonna stereotype, then you’re a nerd, im a nerd, dp is a nerd. all of us are fucking nerds…

Ahh…I knew someone would find some sporting incident where this did happen. Fair enough. Touche’ good sir. But my point still stands. It’s still a class-less act, is frowned upon, and there were major repercussions for all involved in the video linked. It’s certainly not deemed an OK thing to do.

As for the league banning people, that’s exactly what this thread is about. I didn’t think we were discussing stuff that happens on random days at an arcade. We’re talking about incidents happening at organized tournaments involving members of our little fighting game community. And according to the Evo2K site, it does says that a lifetime ban will happen if things like this go down.

Anyway, I like to watch an exciting match go down as much as the next guy. I just wish people could stay civil. Maybe I’m an optimist…

I’m personally all for talking shit and getting hype, but yes, there should be some sense of decency or standards. IMO, these things are drawing the line:

  1. physically touching someone, even if it’s not a punch or whatever (like knocking off someone’s hat off their head)
  2. getting in someone’s personal space (like in their face and talking shit)
  3. getting personal with your insults that do not relate to the game
  4. threatening someone with actual violence

Even with that said, that doesn’t give anyone the excuse to start knocking heads. No one should be fighting over a video game, and no one should be doing the above over a video game either.

Yo on the real…the only way this would really work is banning dude’s that cause drama.

guaranteed this will happen again. What im puzzled about is Marvel…That’s like the only game that brings soo much drama. Other games just talk shit but my GOD Marvel and EC/WC shit just brings shit-talking to a whole new level. Rarely there’s no drama for the past 3-4 years among the EC which is good showing but when it comes to some intercontinental shit…

im sleepy…

The marvel tourney environment is the most unique in our fighting games community. If you enter the tournament you already know what the crowd brings to it. there will be heckling and cheering. you know this before you enter the tourney…so there’s no excuse for getting physical with a heckler.

if you as the player will let a heckler get to you its a fuckin shame. crazy heckling and crazy cheering is part of the Marvel tourney experience. If you cant handle it do us all a favor and dont enter cause all it does it hurt the community on a whole.

as long as know one violates you physically, or really crosses the line you just gotta eat that. Being a man also includes keeping your emotions in check. I’m glad evo is shutting the dumb shit down from now so it doesnt escalate futher. trying to hurt someone over heckling you at a a marvvel tourney is serious bitchassness. you gotta have a zero tolerance policy for that

And I’ll be damned if I’m gonna see the EVO brand besmirched with this foolishness!!! lol

The difference is, basketball players and professional athletes are paid with contracts and the like. Go to any court in an urban area and yell at a nigga that he sucks at the top of your lungs and see what the fuck happens. Again, i’m not saying it’s still common so you have to be prepared to deal with it.

Yo we are all human.

I remember the good old days in Cali… back in 1849 dudes would get into Wicked Bar Fights over poker games. :nunchuck:

Some time dudes even got shot.:wtf:

Now in the year 2008 Dudes play :cybot:Marvel 2:cybot:… and get punched in the face:lame:

No fighting please at least take the shit outside… Be like I will see you out side fool. Thats it. Be like … Stop talking trash… or Step out side after the tournament.

EVO has is trying to have Class… Parents and kid are around too. Be a Pro and say No to fist fights…

This would never happen in Japan:annoy:

You had me up until that point.
