I kept getting knocked out of it when I’d try it out, there doesn’t seem to be much invincibility on startup…like any of his moves other than srk’s. I could be wrong, or just plain mistiming, but I had better luck just sticking to chun roots and using his far reaching moveset to keep them out, then just block when they get in and forget about reversals (for now).
Oh well, day 1 n’ all…just gotta keep messing around with him.
Can you do instant air demon? Like, buffer the two LPs then UF+LK+HP? If it can be done very close to the ground it could even lead to a sort of 50/50 with the grounded one when done not-so pointblank (they think it’s a grounded one and they jump only to get caught by the air version… could also be a nasty OS as it would grab airborne reversal along with airborne frames of backdashes)
Though toward+roundhouse whiffs on ducking opponents, I tend to like to use it more than toward+fierce as a poke.
Toward + fierce comes out slower than it looks imo. It is good, however, once you get used to the distance and timing, but that applies to any move really, but I only use it as a FAR poke. Priority is not great if they decide to press a button on you. What it IS good for though is to toss out at the right distance during fireball wars. Since it absorbs the fireball, you can get a nice counterhit on them with it.
I actually just found out you could tatsu cancel air dashes haha, so I’ve been slowly working those into my game as well. Makes forward air dash seem much more viable.
Can you check if ambiguous air-dash tatsu’s on knockdowns are possible?
Oni is a multi mixed shoto character.
Ok let me explain in small details.
Akuma’s,Red Fireball he has the electric one.
Gouken, one handed fireball + charge
Sakura, fireball goes 3/4th the screen + Ultra 1 as AA
Ryu & Akuma, Some Normals + Metsu Hadoken (Meido Hadoken) and Aeriel Metsu Hadoken (Akuma 3S Air fireball special)
He has new command moves so he does have some sort of Hakan commands in a way.
Airdash, New game in place of air fireball. Risky to use does little damage. Can be used as a bait with a Dash to do some damage.
Akuma grab: both his grabs are like Akuma. Normal Grab creates distance, back grab like Akuma.
His Cancel Dashes is somewhat like C.Viper who can attack in the air and then go to her burning kick. Its same thing but its Dash to Tatsu or dash to Super.
His main BnB game works on target combos to Hk.Tatsu for damage and stun or ex Tatsu.
Ultra 1 has great usage
Ultra 2 might be character specific punisher.
Dash Slash new game style just like Gouken Senku Goshouha. But with a crossup and ex invincibility.
He is top mid tier character. I noticed he has a unique play.

pardon the noob question but this wasn’t addressed in the other threads.
I played AE in the arcades twice already; but I don’t see his char select portrait. Is there a “code” to pick him? (like in SF3:2i)? Or is he a time released character? All I’ve seen from screens is that he’s (supposed to be) on the left of Yang…unless the screenshot I saw was photoshopped.

Just thinking about this actually for Lariat bait. I tried air dash->land->U1 and it’s too slow but I’m wondering if you can cancel the air dash to eliminate the recovery needed for landing.
Anyone wanna test this real quick?

meh, so far he seems pretty weak… played him for a few days now, still cant find ways to make him as much as a threat as akuma(just as an example)… but i guess ill still play around with him for now…
i did a quick run through the devs notes, lotsa stuff were mentioned though ive a feeling to those who have had the chance to play Oni since the leak, its nothing new except maybe the frames stuff… as for translating it, i wish i could do so but i have other more important work to do at the moment… im sure Az or Reno or someone will translate it soon…
edit: ah i guess they got it translated already… as for the slashing move, that shit is WACK. can easily be countered with quick normals, even throwable… sure not saying its completely useless, but its pretty shitty imo

well to be fair he’s still new (at least where im at), people are still messing around, a lot yet to be discovered… but really, that slashing move, doesnt impress much so far(what? 3-4 days lol) though i think it has potential to be good wakeup offense option against some characters.
I think oni’s palm slice will be used similarly to gouken’s palm. mainly to punish fireballs outside of sweep distance. he looks interesting so ill make him an alt next to my main gouken.
