Thanks for the blog but I can’t read Japanese lol so I guess i have to wait…

Played last night against a pretty solid Yun. He mostly kicked my ass, but I was able to catch a few dive kicks with MP air dash. Every Yun seems to throw that move out with abandon, so you can always count on it being used and try to stuff it with a little craftiness! It may take a little more doing than a dp or c.FP, but it earns style points.

I also played a jump happy Ryu. I was trying to use f.FK as an anti-air to set up an electro ball, but I was trading at best and getting stuffed at worst. Is that move really all that great as an AA? It seems that it moves so far forward that it makes itself useless. I had better luck with his more traditional c.FP, but maybe that’s just a spacing issue.

I also spent a lot of time trying to catch hados with f.FP b/c it looks cool. :woot: The start up/step forward makes the timing very tricky unless you’re at full screen or guessing in advance. (Seemed to work great as a mega poke, though–even against the shifty Yun.)

Other moves: I got smacked out of the butt slam. A lot. Depending on how the other player woke up, it worked best for me to keep them in knockdown. My favorite move is air dash. I’ll do that all damn day :rock:, and people have kittens when they think they’re locked into a comfy fb war with a “shoto,” and then dude flies across the screen at them while they’re still throwing fbs at what they thought was a safe range. Oni plays it like it’s BlazBlue.

Has anyone fired a jumping U1 into an srk? This occured to me to try last night, but I never got it set up right.

im assuming f.fk is f.hk @ f.roundhouse, its a decent anti air move, and pretty situational.

oni has a lot of AAs, shoryu being the best, followed by s.hp, cr.hp, and then maybe f.hk… f.hk is pretty slow so using it as AA requires you really expectin your opponent to jump into its range imo.

his st.hk is pretty good during footsies, smacking people out of the air (like viper’s) into the ground is pretty sweet, the move is pretty fast too but can be focus crumpled if youre not careful.

out of all of his moves, his air dash kinda ranks low when it comes to moves with good uses. the move has a lot of recovery, you’ll get punished for using it recklessly. the move is only appealing at first, later on youll realize how its uses is pretty strict, using it to bait stuff only works the first few days when people dont know him imo

jumping U1 into srk? oni has a long recovery after throwing the fireball and landing, i believe its impossible to follow up with anything.

i think he means did you ever catch a srk with air U1

oh, if thats the case, then no… but im curious, in what realistic situation where you’d get to air U1 an srk? jumpin in on them and hope they srk? jump back and they whiff a hp srk? it just doesnt seem that realistic of a situation to me.

im pretty sure, no. not even tatsu, you can only super after an air backdash.

Yeah, I lost a lot of life trying to air dash into U1 and never pulling it off, so I don’t think it’s possible.

hfz, you’re right about my notation. I always think of it as Fierce Kick = FK. That’s from learning the game with a few friends outside of the SF community proper. I’ll adjust for future posts–thanks for the tip. :wink:

And Guile’D is right about catching an SRK with the U1, not comboing into it. Sorry for the confusion. blush

Both the Ryu and the Yun from last night were SRK/dragon kick happy, so I was able to bait a lot of wake up srk/dragon kicks. Since it was so predictable, I was hoping to bait them by neutral jumping and punishing the srk with U1. But if their move would go through it, then yeah. Not a good idea. I didn’t get a chance to try it, either way. I’m definitely a scrub, so I was just wondering if any of the better players on here have had success with something like that.

P.s.: I still plan on mashing air dash. I know it really hangs you out there, but it’s just too much fun.

is the any reason to pick U1? it seems like its kinda of weak compared to U2,and every combo that uses U1 also uses U2.
Is there damage differences in Air U1 and AA U1?

Is U1 any good for chip dmg?

I’m afraid you’re right about the damage. But I like the flexibility of U1, so I’m trying to find ways to use it in my game. I haven’t combo’d into either of his Ultras yet–that second hit FADC is giving me fits! I get too excited and mash FA on the first hit, and then watch Oni happily complete his DP. (Which has to be close to the strongest in the game, though.) I’ve mostly been using Ultras to punish, and in this regard, U2 is probably a better choice. :frowning: Still, I’m gonna keep playing around with U1.

Damage wise, I think air and AA are similar, but I haven’t made a perfect comparison. The ground U1 at poke range is the strongest. I’ve only landed the air one once, as whatever Yun I’m playing (it really is almost always Yun) is dashing frantically across the screen at me while I throw it. Might be more useful against other characters.

Interesting note on U1 AA: I used it on wake up anticipating a dive kick, but he tried to ground combo me instead. Yun was standing at poke range next to me, and the upward fireball U1 caught him in its hit box. So maybe the hitbox for U1 AA is similar to the ground pound of U2. I dunno

At kep: I did chip someone out with it, just like Ryu’s U1.

how good is air u1? is there any invincibility? that would be great against characters that can knock you out of the sky.
so far all i can think of is for its uses is,Air dash bait a SRK,into Air U1

Can’t cancel air dash into ultra. I think the backwards air dash can only cancel to super.

Well I’m sure it would look super sexy, but ya, that’s just making things harder on yourself unnecessarily.

I think it would be amazing to pull of, and the U1 kicks hit box does seem pretty damn big. Everyone’s seen the standard Ryu srk to Ultra, so this would knock their socks off. I don’t know if it’d reach someone after a DP, though, especially with Oni’s abysmal dash. :frowning:

wait, im confused, by tk U1, what dya mean by tk? tiger knee motion? as in, instant air ultra? or triple kicks?

I read it as three (triple) kicks to get the vertical fireball instead of the horizontal.
