Im in the process of making a vid for new 3s players

parry bait for sure,
and poking.

some advanced stuff too, ex tatsu to get on the other side etc

This might be too much to handle, but I guess throwing out an idea would be better than none at all.

Are you planning on doing voiceovers or showing command inputs to let people know how to do things? I think the video would be worthless if you don’t at least tell people how to do it, or at least a video for beginners.

I think I’ll check that other beginner’s vid though. I really need it.

Some of my suggestions:

  1. A good explaination of terms commonly used like Meaty, Buffer, Reset, etc.
  2. Show common tactics used by new players (Unsafe Jump-ins, Sweeping, Revenge Super, etc.) and how they could be easily punished.
  3. Explain why new players should use more than just Fierce and Roundhouse buttons.
  4. Remember to keep things interesting.

It’d probably be easier to just make a character specific video instead of a video for everybody. As much as I love videos, even as a beginner I usually just want to see information on a specific character, not wade through a ton of stuff and 1-2 hours of video data would be a pain to distribute and get your hands on. A “Character” For Dummies that starts off for beginners and goes into intermediate tactics would probably be the best thing. At high levels it’s about mind games and execution and after learning how to use the basic moves in the game and learning your character specific combos, the person themselves would be forced to go and push themselves to the higher level. Plus it wouldn’t be bad to have a Basics video for each characters stickied in each of the character specific forums just so that new players don’t have to ask the same questions over and over again.

Eep, I’m slacking like a mofo. I just saw this thread.

If a video gets too long you’ll have massive problems getting it out there. My videos are medium-high quality and people still complain about download times, even though it’s compressed pretty well. A video that’s an hour long would be over a gig easily, no one would ever be able to get a whole copy in order to see it, haha.

I’d definitely like to see more 3s vids around, but it seems like a huge undertaking to do everything for every character on your debut. Maybe you should do a couple of smaller vids to work out the kinks in your system, hey? I look back at some of the stuff I did technically on the Twelve video and I cringe, haha. You learn by leaps and bounds on every vid you make, the first one is rough going to say the least. There’s a version of the Twel(e)ve video that only maybe 5-7 people have seen, it’s literally horrendous and I hope no one else ever sees it. I was so disappointed in the way it came out (even though the people who saw it said it was actually pretty good) that I threw the whole thing away and made the version that was released publicly from scratch. I couldn’t imagine doing that with something as big as you’re planning.

There aren’t nearly enough character-specific vids, and at the rate I’m going I won’t be getting back to it within any reasonable timeframe. So definitely good luck, and if you have any questions or anything feel free to hit me up. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

N - PS: The Twel(e)ve tutorial is 12 minutes, 12 seconds and 12 frames long. NOT half an hour, haha.

importantly , teaching us what the opponent wants to do and what’s in their mind thinking in the match .

Teaching that would be an elaborate process especially if you gave scenarios. Its more of an observation tactic. You could list what to do but the strategy would change if the opp noticed it. Then it would be a new scenario again and you would have to explain what to then. It would just take too much explaining. Its better to teach the idea than actually what to do in each situation. Its like teaching a man to fish type of thing. I dont think theres such thing as a perfect strategy. Every strategy has a weakness. It might not be a big weakness sometimes but its still a weakness.

It is possible to train the opponent into playing a certain way. When you do it right, its easy to expect moves and counter. This really depends on how smart the opp is though. I’ve seen people that just cant be programmed into doing moves but not many. Sometimes the pro strats wont work on noobs because they wont respect what your trying to do. When you go against pro’s theyll notice what tactic your trying to do and counter it. Then you have to try another tactic to counter their tactic.

heh thanks man. Ill hit you up soon with a few questions and shit. Oh and the first video i will be doing will be with chunli.:lovin:

My suggest:

In Alex/Remy/Urien vids try explain the Charge partition and the pre/Buffers.

I really wanna see your vids Thongboy, but I can’t find 'em anywhere besides combovideos, which won’t let me sign up :frowning: Anyplace else I can get 'em?

I still think basics would be a better starting point for this video. The number of people I’ve played (especially on XBL) that don’t have even the most basic understanding of the game is shameful :frowning:

I don’t really see the point of a video on character specific basics. This could be better demonstrated in a non-character-specific way to save covering it, like 19 times over. If you explain (eg.) hit confirms in a generals sense, all you have to do when you’re govering specific characters is list the attack used to confirm. It’s a 2 second job for every character then.

Building off that basic foundation, you could detail every character as an extension or exception to the basic rules.

Q: As per basics, but don’t crowd on wakeup. Get taunts in early.
Twelve: As per basic, but free to jump a lot.
Oro: As per basics, but free to jump a lot.

That sort of thing.

EDIT: I think Chun is the perfect starting point! Looking forward to seeing the vid.
