I'm In Lesbians With Skullgirls... But Should I Quit?

I was looking for something like common ground. You play to the best of your ability, my mistake for not knowing the specifics of your situation.

:stuck_out_tongue:

What combos can you do? I don’t have a disability, but I rarely rely on elaborate combos in fighting games, so I don’t think that should be a hinderance…
You said you can do a few simple ones, mind giving some examples?

note: Broly did beat mike ross in online matches (who was the guest that episode? I forgot) on SFxTekken on cross counter. Man, he is so damn inspriational.

Deleted multiple off-topic posts, mostly those who were acting like jackasses. If I deleted your post, consider it both a kindness and a warning. Keep it up and I’ll actually start doling out infractions.

I’m dyslexic, yet finished in the top 16 at EVO 2010 for TvC, and top 40 for MvC3 at CEO 2011. I just got top 16 at Skullgirls at PowerUp 2012, despite going blind in one eye and having to deal with chronic pain (or the side effects of the meds that control it). I hope that qualifies me to give you advice.

One point of inspiration I found was that Mago once said that he had to lose hundreds of matches before he ever started winning. You need that kind of hunger. Recognize that losing isn’t a sign of weakness, just a hurdle you have to overcome. Learn why you lost, then push yourself to not do the same things that led to losing. Push yourself to try harder, but remember to take breaks when you’re frustrated. If you’re like me, your ability to learn completely shuts down when you’re angry, so relax when it happens.

In short, keep pushing. If you lose, take a breather, then get back up and do it again. Constantly stretching your limits also expands them.

I have a similar disability. I’ve hit the same wall of frustration. Long combos are pretty much impossible for me to do. You have to ask yourself why are you playing? Are you having fun with the game? There were plenty of times when I just wasn’t having fun anymore with certain games. If the frustration level is higher than the enjoyment level, it’s time to put the game down. Life’s too short. If you’re still enjoying the game, than of course you should keep playing. I’ve learned to get enjoyment out of baby steps. I’ll never ever be at the level I want to be. (What competitor ever is?) I’ll never ever be a tournament player. But the enjoyment I get out of games comes from constantly trying to improve myself. My development is painfully slow, but as long as it’s there, I’m going to keep playing. It’s my whole reason for playing.

While SG is a new game and everyone are ā€œstarting from scratchā€, fighting game veterans will do better than others from day one. They’ll learn the game faster and exploit the good stuff better. You’d be amazed how much exp and general skill in the genre helps in every new game that comes out.

If you can do something in training mode, but not in a real match, it doesn’t sound like a health problem to me, just the usual ā€œtoo much in training, not enough in actual battleā€ issue.

Also drop your team and start with a solo character. A team is for people who mastered 2-3 characters, and you cannot afford to get hit. I haven’t even mastered one so I don’t think you are in a position to play a team.

Edit: And don’t listen to all the theory fighters here who post videos of fancy pain in the ass combos as B&Bs.
Stick to something simple easy and damaging rather than trying to go for the fancy 37 links combos.

yeah. A simple LMH Launcher LMH OTG LMMHH with parasoul is all i’ve used online, and it’s gotten me very far. I can’t even combo that into super online yet. and when I’m in ranked matches, I don’t even bother trying

Maybe try a zoning team? I dunno if you are already, but it seems to me that a zoning team wouldn’t require the long combos and execution of Painwheel or Fortune.

Thank you, everyone, for the advice.

I’m not going to quit, but you all helped me get myself in the right perspective. I’ve been trying too hard. I’ve accepted that I’m not meant to be one of those guys, the ones that compete. At best, I could probably be like UltraDavid and comment on matches, but that’s not what I feel like I’m meant to do.

It’s not about giving up, I just understand the my limitations. It’s not nerves, it’s my brain trying to keep up with the fastpaced movement and co-ordinate with my hands to make precise movements. Almost like UltraDavid, even if my brain is saying ā€œThere! Punish him for that, he’s open!ā€, if there has been too much movement, my fingers don’t recieve the message or spazz out. I still enjoy the game, I’ll buy ALL of the DLC characters and continue to play, but I’ll stop blaming myself for losing. You can’t expect a computer to run the best if it has faulty wiring. It may be pretty damn good, even if it didn’t have anything wrong with it, but it just can’t be one of ā€œThe Bestā€. With this in mind, I’ve also been having a little more fun online. I was having fun before, even when I get frustrated and lost repeatedly, but there’s just a little less frustration now.

Like I said, I have no problem with three characters. I do better with three than with one (Any one). The main combos I’ve been practicing are as follows (If I remember correctly, as I’m not at home).

Cerebella: c.lk, c.mp, c.hp, j.lk, j.hk, c.lp, c.mk, c.hp, jf.qcf grab (which does not combo, but I have yet to see anyone stop it, and it does another 3k) (or) dp grab, qcf super, (dhc if I have meter). I’ve been trying to find a way to use, i think it’s her j.mk, it makes the opponent stand when they hit the ground and stops the combo counter (either that or I wasn’t fast enough with the next hit), and then use either qcb/f grab (whichever one hits) into qcf super, or just 360 super.

Filia: s.lp, s.lk, s.mp, c.mk, s.hp, j.lk, j.mp, j.hk, c.lp, c.hp, qcb hk, qcf super (dhc it if I have meter). I’ve been trying to find a good way to use her ringlet spikes, or the dp in a combo, but I haven’t found any good ones yet.

Ms.Fortune: s.lp, s.lk, s.mk, s.hk, j.lp, j.lk, j.mp, qcb hp, land walk forward, qcb hp, s.lp, s.lk, s.mp, s.mk, c.hk, rekka mp (x3), qcb/qcf super. Haven’t been able to experiment after this point, mainly cause I’m just now thinking it, but I’m thinking instead of c.hk, I do s.hk, j.mk, qcb hk, qcb super, qcb hp if it hits, and if IPS isn’t activated by the second head chomp, then do some more stuff or just straight qcf super.

My gamer tag on 360 is ā€œZidianeā€, if anyone wants to play me.
