I'm gonna bite your FACE! (official blanka thread)

The V stands for Victory!

Oh I didnt watch the full match but yea I think it’s something you can do consistently. Memorize the reversal timing after one hit of the fierce crusher, if there’s an opening you do your move, if not you keep blocking.

also works dics super, you can get out when he crosses up.

cool stuff but haven’t tried it yet myself.

can’t wait to try the V ball reversal of the PC. If it still works in HDR, it will be a nice option for blanka players against f-PC scrubs.

anyone try it yet?

conventionally I punish with c.fierce. a whiff vertical ball if you’re late might be bad though.

I assume you need to switch block direction to make it happen too.

I haven’t been able to get it to work yet. I think it’ll take some practice to get the timing down. It’s obviously effective from watching that Video. Seems like a REALLY handy tool in that matchup.

I haven’t been able to get it to work either. If no one is able to do the reversal, maybe I will ask Sirlin about it on his site.

I have done it on accident here and there. I have done it with both the Vertical and horizontal ball. I usually do it when I am trying to hit bison after his psycho crusher with a crouching fierce punch and i switch directions to hit him. Other than that I feel its too risky to try everytime

Off topic but I was wondering what you guys used as sub characters. I’m not looking for ideas on how to deal with bad matchups or anything, I was just curious.

I personally play a lot of Deejay and Ken on the side.

Blanka 98%

Guile 1%
Hawk 1%

Blanka 99% of the time, but has recently went down. Now it’s 80% Blanka, 10% Cammy, 5% Hawk, 5% everybody else.

Blanka 99% of the time.

Honda 1%- because its easier to play charge characters on the 360 controller

If its a tournament or if I am tired of losing with other characters then Blanka 100%

Usually its 50% Blanka, 40% Ken and Ryu and 10% Vega

For business, Blanka 100% of the time.

For fun, Blanka 50%, Ryu 20%, Cammy 10%, Bison 10%, everybody else but Balrog and Honda, 10%.

Edit: I was thinking about something that may be useful. When I try to crossup Honda or Balrog on wakeup, sometimes they do a reversal RH buttslam/ Fierce Headbutt to get out. I usually try to punish them with a slide on reaction, but sometimes I’m so concentred in link my cr. foward/st. strong after, that I just whiff an attack when I land and lose the punishment opportunity and momentum.

Now the question: Can I use some kind of option select, doing slide and, let’s say, cr. foward in a certain timing that if my crossup whiffs I get slide, if it hit/ is blocked, I get cr. foward (Like the option select sweep in SF4) ? I couldnt test it myself cause I have no one to setup it with, and in real games I just cant try those things…

blanka 30% gief 40% honda/ken/dj/bison 30% if i’m playing casually

gief honestly is too much fun not to play.

Sagat like 5% of the time. I’m starting to think I should try another character for a little while. Maybe gain a little more perspective on the game. There is more to life than biting faces, after all.

I do have a question. Is it possible to reversal upball a meaty crossup j.Mk from Deejay? I had a ton of matches with a really solid Deejay player, and I swear my vert ball didn’t come out once when he jumped in REALLY meaty with that crossup.

It very well could be just me, that happens a lot.

Sure, you do the slide command right away, and then the crouching forward. You do have to hold d/f for the slide, so you’ve got to sacrifice your back charge to do it.

I’m aware of it, but I can combo two cr.foward into v. ball in a standing opponent.

Interesting to see what you guys character tastes are like. For some reason I expected more symmetry between us but it’s pretty varied.

Fulani asked that I post some comments on how my matchups vs Boxer and DeeJay have improved as I stated in another thread. So, some of this is going to sound like you’ve read it before and some of it might sound weird but I’ve always been one to experiment and find crazy answers to impossible looking situations so read on…

vs Boxer
I usually do one of three things.

  1. Nuetral J. LK to negate headbutt
  2. Mash F. Electric to negate any stand-up rushes
  3. Jump back then MP Roll > Bite

Once you get life lead, many Boxers will get ansy and try to get back at you. This creates opportunities for a knockdown. Blanka just needs one knockdown to practically finish this match. So, a well timed slide or C. RH works well when you see the Boxer player advancing and don’t forget that C. MK stuffs low rushes pretty well.

Baiting Boxer into headbutts is also free damage from close range. You want to take advantage of his recovery frames and go for the bite. Especially if it’s near the corner because that sets up many more follow-up options. Things like cross-up FP ball > S. MP > double headbutt / cross-up FP ball > super cancel into C. MK > MK vert ball / cross-up FP ball > FP electric / cross-up FP ball > hop cross-up again > bite

If there is ONE piece of advice that I had to give Blanka players for the Boxer matchup it would be to take FULL ADVANTAGE of safe-jump opportunities. Learning how to properly safe-jump can improve your game dramatically. Once you get Boxer players afraid to headbutt, then that opens up other options.

I’ll post some of my DeeJay strats later on today. Hope this helps.

Thanks dude.

When you say super into c.mk, do you mean that you time the super so you don’t get the popback on block? Cause on hit it will always knockdown in HDR. Personally I usually go for the bite if I get the super without the popback.
