I’m worried the PS3 won’t have enough spare RAM to have decent netplay code… I just brought this game home about 2 hours ago and finally got down to playing it. The netcode ruins the online experience completely. I accidently whiffed an uppercut with Athena and it took about 5 seconds for her to land… sufficed to say, my opponent had plenty of time to devise a counter attack.
If the netplay code does not improve, this game could be rendered useless for me. No one I know plays KOF. It does comfort me to know that some people have been lucky and seen near lag free matches at times… I have yet to see anything that resembles that so far.
I have a question. Are they just trying to fix KOF 12’s netcode or will they also fix their other games like KOF98UM and Garou? Personally I have yet to play them(at least online) since I dont have an xbox, but from what I hear the online sucks for those games as well
The online environment is definitely the biggest gripe preventing people from picking it up. I had people in video game stores ask me today and my response was, “The net code is horrendous but the game is solid overall.”
All of their responses are the same, “If it is bad online, I won’t get it.”
Who could blame them? Blazblue’s online gameplay performed at the highest caliber, so fighting game consumers should expect games to at least meet their quality. KOFXII’s netcode is very below average. It is downright insulting to players, especially with the price of 60 dollars, that this could be passed on as the “next generation future of fighting games.”
If SNK really cares about being the future of the fighting game market, then they have to look no further than http://ggpo.net/ to bring you there. I played against a player in Japan as if they were sitting in my living room. However, with KOFXII, I play my friend who lives in the same town, and it feels like we are fighting underwater.
Until they release something to make the net play even remotely passable, I will not recommend this game to any gamer out there. If you want a game that is actually fun online, pick up Blazblue.
It’s not at all about RAM. It’s SNKP continuing to either not care or not having an intelligent enough solution for online play. If ArcSys can somehow manage to have just about lag free gameplay online then so can SNKP. It’s getting ridiculous that they’ve managed to screw up every time with this. It’s even more ridiculous that KOF12 has lag online even when you’re a couple of miles away from a friend while BB has no problems with people thousands of miles away.
Having said that, I have faith that Shane/Ignition can find a way to make it work. GGPO/whatever Backbone is using for HD Remix and MvC2/whatever ArcSys is running. Just find a way to get it there and I’ll be online having fun.
Threw in my two cents. Man it feels like the terrible online play is the only thing keeping this game from being a must have. I sure hope it gets fixed. It’d be a real shame if it wasn’t.
For those from Ignition/SNKP, I hope you will read this post.
KOF 12 has been the first KOF title I have purchased in a long time. I’ve played the game quite a few times at a local arcade (Arcade UFO = much love). When I knew it was coming out for the 360, I was really excited.
But when I heard that the netcode was a bit lacking, I was a bit sad. I had a lot of fun playing this on machines with my friends locally, so I was hoping to be able to replicate the experience online. The first reports of online play were not promising (though they were coming out when GS broke street date, so I gave SNKP and Ignition the benefit of a doubt). But I went ahead and bought the game anyway, because I wanted to make sure that more KOF titles would be heading to consoles in the future.
With playing some competitors titles, plus games on GGPO and 2DF, I knew that online fighting had a chance. With the ‘rebirth’ of KOF, I knew something great could be achieved. KOF 12 had a rough start, but it can be improved upon! KOF 12 is a very fun game, and I know I can get people into it. You can do this! KOF can make people go go “Oh hell yes! I will be getting the sequel!” While we have our few local outlets for getting our fighting game hype on, our opposition can be limited. Since growing as a fighting game enthusiast involves online play, providing the best online experience possible is important!
While I must admit that KOF has not received as much attention from me as it could have in the past, I must admit that KOF 12 is one of the most fun games I have played in some time. So to translate that experience into the online realm is very important. And I know I’m not the only one that feels that way.
So, from a person who has been a fan of fighting games for a very long time, please do everything you can to improve the online experience. Whether it comes does to adopting GGPO, or coming up with some brand new system, if it makes the KOF online game better, THAT’S GREAT.
As the old school SNK used to say, the future is now. DO IT.
Game is awesome without a doubt. If only the netcode were fixed, many people would buy this game. Most of the % with people not buying or returning the game is the crappy online play
I posted mine, but anyone who hasn’t made an account yet and want to post their thoughts, maybe you can register your screenname as GGPOinsert number here as a reminder of how much people want GGPO to be put into these games.
I already started it off as GGPO1. Maybe by the end of the week or so, we can see like GGPO30 or even better GGPO100.
It is just another marketing tool to drive home to these people how amazing Ponder’s creation really is, especially since, for all the 98 UM fans out there, there is talk of putting UM for Playstation Home. If we don’t really push for this now, SNK will just release crappy online after crappy online, and I don’t know about you, but I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore.
