IGN Top 25 Street Fighters

the description this article gave to Makoto illustrates exactly what the problem is with IGN doing a Top 25 street fighters list. It fails to focus on the right qualities to consider. WTF? Makoto is on the list because 3S used CPS3 and her belt’s always moving? not one mention on her mixup game, her dash, infinites etc.

No, the problem is that its some dudes opinion. If some random person on the street started listing off their top 25 favorite SF characters would you start criticizing their criteria for choosing them or just ignore them? Just because it’s on IGN doesn’t make it anymore important.

I’m glad Gief was at least top 15. I’m just waiting for Dhalsim, Urien, and Hugo to appear now. Dhalsim is going to appear no matter what, but I’m getting worried about Hugo and Urien. I know Hugo isn’t going to be top 10, and isn’t going to be on the list. However, I’m really pulling for Urien.

In the early days of Street Fighter II, when nobody had that great a handle on how the game worked, Dhalsim always seemed like the most obvious character to choose. He could punch a guy from halfway across the screen! How could you beat that?

After a little practice, we learned that it wasn’t so simple. Dhalsim had range, but he didn’t have speed, and his lazy, floating jumps made him easy to time when he came in on offense. By that point, though, people picked Street Fighter characters for their personalities as much as any practical reason, and Dhalsim ? like Blanka and Honda, a couple of other popular oddballs ? had personality to burn.
