IGN Reviews the MadCatz SFIV FightPad

Pretty positive overall! The fact that the buttons depress more easily actually sounds well thought-out for using piano inputs. It’s likely analagous to Happ vs Sanwa/Seimitsu buttons in terms of pressure and quality; just because one’s easier to press does not make it cheap by any means.

I wish they would have called out the intelligent higher relative placement of the d-pad and buttons on the controller’s face as well. Responsive as hell though? YES! Six buttons on the front and that are all you need to be worth it over the stock 360 and PS3 controllers. They’ll sell a load of these.

This sounds like a good improvement from the SF Anniversary pads. The buttons were really cheap and on top of that it felt like pushing on skittles trying to get things to come out. They didn’t push in and out as quickly as you would have liked and eventually the button’s cheapness settled in once they started getting stuck inside the controller. Hopefully these buttons are designed to last longer.

Hmmh, good find.

I’m over-the-counter high on cold meds right now so maybe I just missed some shit in the reading/comprehension department, but I swear their score tally summary at the end brought up some points that weren’t actually mentioned in the article. I also thought it was kind of funny how the first quarter of the article had nothing to do with the FightPad itself.

Nice getting some details on the feel of components. Sounds like the pads will be great, as expected. Actually though, I don’t think I’d trust IGN could tell me about them more than I trust MarkMan’s word anyway.

I’m in for at least one. I’m also glad the 360 version is wired. I’d rather not fuss with batteries.

What did you expect from people who don’t play fighting games?

It also means you can use it for PC. Wired 4 Life.
