We all know its not Viscant, its Phoenix herself. Everyone by now this day in age should know 80 or 90% of the top players Play to Win no matter what they have to do or who they have to pick.
Most of the Stream Monsters are 85 to 95% Trolls and make things even worst then they need to be.
I remember there being a similar well made thread that DevilJin made for Vincant’s EVO victory explaining the same thing, we know man .
No one here hates Viscant. If you are directing your post towards the stream monsters that don’t know anything about fighting games, you are wasting your time because they aren’t reading this. Learn to ignore the stream chat in majors.
I disagree, I think Phoenix is one of the best things they put in that game. Maybe it didn’t pay off and she twisted the metagame a bit too far, but damn, good on Capcom for having balls and trying something different.
I think the majority of people don’t necessarily hate Viscant they just hate Phoenix. They absolutely hate that character and that’s understandable. Same as people don’t hate MOV or Nuki, they just hate Chun in 3S and the crowd loves to root for the underdog in that situation.
With Noel Brown, he’s a pretty average MVC3 player, he punches like a woman, and had a friend rig a match so he’d win. I think the hate for him is pretty legit, just like people hate Marn (youtube Marn Shoutouts).
It did not pay off. Maybe if Ultimate wasn’t coming out in a month we’d be able to really shackle and torture the character to the point where no one plays her because we have her figured inside and out, but she just rapes any semblance of normalcy in this game. It pains my brain to understand how they thought it was even a remotely good idea to be in the game the way she is. She takes the entire team dynamic of the game, the very essence of what makes Marvel what it is, and promptly takes a heaping, flaming, uncontrollable dump all over it.
So no, I’m not giving Capcom props for it. Honestly she should have been the last boss or something instead, that would have worked out much better.
Phoenix is most likely going to be seeing her way out of normal competitive play once Ultimate hits. I knew from when the game came out that she was ridiculous but I also figured that she would be patched at some point. That was my main incentive to just kinda stay the course and see what happens and of course a new game is coming out that has nerfed her to the point where if she gets snapped in once she will basically die for free now.
I just didn’t feel a reason to bitch that much about Phoenix because she’s simply a concept Capcom wanted to throw in to do something different and the way her concept works she can only be too good or not good enough. Which that’s fine it’s something different…whatever. She won’t control the game in Ultimate and team synergy will matter more once again in Ultimate.
In Ultimate she’ll just end up being a character of random variance like she was intended to be instead of 2 forms of a character that raped most of the cast on point.
At this point there’s so much stupid crazy shit in this game that Phoenix is just whatever now. Most of the shit I “hate the most” in this game doesn’t even involve Phoenix and never really did. At least with Phoenix you know what you get. If you snap her in before the 5 or get a chance to snap her in before she turns XF3 DP and kill her…you win. If XF3 DP comes out…you lose. Pretty simple matchup. LOL.
I have to comment on this. You are 100% right that both Noel and Viscant are incredibly skilled players and that they are smart enough to play to win. But you CANNOT tell me I can’t hate them for using those characters (I really don’t hate either guy). As a matter of fact, you can’t tell anyone, noob or pro, that they can’t hate either player for using those teams. You’re making yourself look like a fascist by saying “Hate them for using XXX character means you’re a scrub so GTFO”. Don’t do that.
If someone wants to hate on someone for using Herp Derp character then so be it. Don’t tell us how to think. Its not like hating on them changes how high they place in tournaments or how often they win EVO. In the end true skill shows up in tournaments no matter who is playing which character. Its been said a million times over but “HATERS GONNA HATE!” So why cry about it? Viscant proved at the time he was better at EVO. JWong proved at the time he was better at Devastation.
In terms of stream monsters you have to realize that the underdog will always get more fans. Its a completely different perspective from player to viewer. You want to know why Cl0ckw0rk doesn’t get much hate for using Phoenix? Because his other 2 characters are not herp derp so everyone who watches him thinks “Oh damn! He uses 2 lower tier characters and still wins! He’s godlike!”. Same shit in AE. Everyone shouts HERP DERP HERP (myself included) when team Hong Kong shows up but they cheer the shit out of Seth’s and T.Hawks. If you really are letting the stream monsters get into your head then you need to rethink your own mentality on the competitive scene.
TL;DR: Even though I agree with most of your post, it really just makes you look like a butthurt fanboy who let stream monsters get to you. Get over it, you’re better than that.
