"If theres no capcom pro tour and this game came out... PFFFF"

You know, I feel this may be one of those agree to disagree situations. We could quote each other back and forth and argue over the merits of specific characters, but I don’t think it will really get us anywhere except that you think everyone plays the same, and I feel there are nuances in the playstyles. So I will respectfully say that while I don’t agree with you, your opinion is as valid as mine. Hopefully KoF XIV, Tekken 7, KI, Injustice 2 or any of the multitude of fighting games out there are more to your tastes. At least it’s not 2006 and there are actually choices out there.

Isn’t there another thread that all the doom and gloom guys can go to and do their thing ?

There you go Anyone else not buying into the SFV hype?

I am really surprised that these two threads haven’t been merged already.

CEO didn’t reach its record breaking 800+ entrants in February or even April. That growth has been ongoing:

300 entrants came just during the last 3 weeks.

So, sorry. But, the enthusiasm is still there.

CEO built on this community.

Smash comes in and takes it over just because.

Might as well get it renamed to Nintendo Effort Orlando.

Nintendo has more young kids with with time to spare. Not as many yungins playing Capcom games.

Of course SFV trumps every other traditional fighter by like 3 to 5 times the entrants.

Central and south Florida have huge smash communities though.

The weekly place I frequent have 2 week nights dedicated to to smash (Melee and smash4) and they both hit over a hundred entrants every week.

Hell they even get international players coming in to play… At a weekly.

SF barely draws 40 entrants a week.

It was similar during our old monthlies for 3S and CVS2. Both games would pull maybe 45 people total, then like 80 to 90 dudes be out there for Smash.

Is smash overall bigger than sf?

Possibly. From what I know it’s only like Evo and Final Round where SF turns out bigger than Smash. I’m sure Smash’s big events come out really big and their local events are usually bigger. Can’t say for sure though.

It was one of 3 games on the gamecube.

Although comparing it to one game isn’t really fair since the series only really has two playable entries and no actual competition from similar style of games. You add up the totals from the two communities and you get:

FGC: 1,857
Smash: 1,590

Out of those CEO numbers. The thing has always been that FGs has always been a bunch of scenes while smash is literally one game. Its a pretty important detail that people love overlooking.

Disagree very strongly
Lots of people I know hated to play MvC3 and KoF13
but admitted that they were fun to watch.

Agree, i fucking hate playing MVC2 but i always enjoyed watching tournament level play.

That happens with a lot of games though. It’s usually the fast paced games that people find fun to watch. They won’t play them because they’re really cheap/dishonest games though. Which is arguably in some ways worse than a game that is boring, but solid enough for people to at least play while they complain about how boring it is to play.

SFIV was much more boring for me to watch with the huge emphasis on light attacks in footsies and the over abuse of reversals and hitting buttons on wake up. I like that hitting buttons during neutral is more important and the quick rises on wake up keep the game pace a lot better without the heavy knockdowns on sweeps and throws. Plus the V Skills and V Trigger are slowly starting to show their strength.

Especially with the CEO grand finals with Tokido parrying all kinds of stuff that would have been unpunishable for a lot of the other cast or had much more limited punishes. That intuition and reads on people’s play is stuff that reminds of me what I liked about 3S. It’s not heavy about setups, just making the right call and getting an opportunity for it.

After all, SaltyBet has a lot of viewers and nobody is even actually playing the game…

Yeah from what I’ve heard SaltyBet could potentially outdo all the fighting games for viewers just because it gives them what they want. Retardo Dark Donald vs Cheap Boss Type action.

daigo said himself that without the cpt people might stop playing the game. the interview is from the ceo and you can find the clip on eventhubs or youtube

Why are we talking about things that aren’t happening?

Welp CPT ain’t going nowhere. Once Capcom gets off their ass and makes an arcade release than the other less Twitch Hollywood Japanese will have a better shot too.

Oh and 5,000 people MCRIBBOIZ

I dunno about you guys but I haven’t attended any recent tourney thinking I was going to school people that play this game 24/7, may not have another job, are sponsored etc in the hopes of getting the pot money. The tourneys are fun and that’s enough for me so I go sometimes. They were fun to go to before the CPT too.
