Holy shit… an 06’ SRKer making a good statement… The world is coming to an end!
I wish that wasn’t true… but it is
the dreamcast for a number of reasons. . . it was basically a “gap” system until the ps2 came out, and for that it was marketed terribly like the xbox 360. There is no doubt it was an unbelievable system, and sega could teach sony and nintendo a thing or two with there online services (that even existed in the saturn days, ps2 started deep into 2002, and nintendo is pretty worthless so far online except but wii will change that).
Game wise the dreamcast had some incredible games. . . but they just didnt have big names like final fantasy zelda etc, and the sonic games were not that great all.
And for the fighting games. . . well im sry but cmon no one here is ignorant, almost no one even bothers with fighters period anymore, and those who do are so nit picky about ports that they dont let the genre expand b/c they dont buy the games. But I have to say, for alpha 3, that was ALMOST perfect, 3rd strike was damn good in its own right, but the color was weird, mvc2 and cvs2 were perfect, soul calibur was above and beyond anything at the time, doa 2. . .well ive never played it. . so i cant say, motw and lb2, were both decent ports, but once again there is yet to be a good neogeo port in the universe, guilty gear x wasnt that good of a game at all. . . so yeah that is pretty much the deal.
dreamcast died cuz it was a hardcore system, didnt appeal to the masses at all, just to ppl like us, and even in that sense, it was not “hardcore enuff” with bad to very very very good ports, almost none perfect.
HaHa this thread will never die. Just like the dreamcast.
(insert dc energizer battery pun here)
One thing i wanted to point out here. Alot of people here are harping on the dc’s controller, yet take a good look. What, dont like white controllers? Ok, then set it next to a Xbox-s controller. Now take a good look. Notice anything? If not, i’ll point out my tiny observation. Although the actuall proportions are different, they are damn-near identical! So to all of the fps-1337’s on the xbox, guess what, your basically useing a Dreamcast controller!
Im not trying to say this was intentional on Microsoft’s part or anything of the sort, but you have to admit, its funny in a way.
Also, there are enough differences between the two controllers. I could also point out the 4 controller port thing, but other systems had that anyway, so meh.
Hmm, this thread was about why the dreamcast died. After reading the entire thing through, I, myself, am still hella confused:looney:
Funny, as i’ve seen threads like this here, and on other boards, and i “still” dont get it. But it does not change the facts. Love the fact or hate it, the Dreamcast no longer has any support in the usa. Sure, in japan it does, and we can always import, or pirate if thats your thing, whatever. I myself love my dc, i also love my ps2, and my gc gets some playtime every now and then aswell.
this is not an anti microsoft/sony/nintendo/sega/(insert game company here) post, I personally dont think anyone here can trully say without a doubt why Sega pulled the plug.
I remember reading somewhere that it was due to the company having financial problems at the time. can anyone conferm/deny?

Sony paid them to stop making consoles. It’s a true story.
i doubt this ever happened, but on the other hand, i bet sony whould if it could. Why? because from a compeditive market stand point, if i had the opportunity, i whould too.
On the other hand, im sure Sega could cry bribery in court or something of that nature. (not too sure)

haha
Naw man, those fools where just to broke to keep making consoles lol.
Let this fucking thread die.
Did you miss the D-pad and lack of second analog stick? those were some issues that could have made it llast longer. the layout is the same, but the x-box has a more easily used floating d-pad, larger buttons, and a second analog stick. This opened up waaaay more gameplay options. But your point on Microsoft copying the layout is a good one
