Ok, I came to the realization that putting Phoenix Wright first was the wrong way to go. Always. My opponent is always going to have some better than PW first because everyone is better than PW. So I tried putting him in the second slot but that didn’t accomplish much because I found I had alter how I played my first character just to make PW work. This lead to him going into the third slot.

So I went through the characters I liked to play and came up with Nemesis (Clothesline), Trish (Peakaboo), Phoenix Wright (Paper).

Nemesis and Trish kinda play the same way. If I want to keep away / zone I can do that with either character. Nemesis hits hard but is slow, Trish hits weak but is fast. I don’t need to stall for meter I can just play the match how I want at this point.

Once I do have the meter however I will combo into Nemesis rocket super otg. On the last stop I DHC into Trish’s ‘boomerang’ super. Since they’re bouncing from Nemesis’ stomp they’ll go straight up. So as soon I DHC into Trish I’m already holding the button to call out PW. He comes out, they’re all the way at the top of the screen and I can get 3 evidence calls for free. A combination of Maya shield and Trish Peakboo assist yields me a good defense to fish for more evidence if necessary. From this point on I attempt to play him WITHOUT going into Turnabout mode unless I know it’ s absolutely certain I’ll get it. I feel the more I rely on hitting that ‘objection’ the easier it’ll be for me to lose.

If I get him to Turnabout he becomes the assist and I work with the other two. Basically if I get the chance I’ll set up for PW but if I don’t then I’ve got Nemesis and Trish at the front. It just clicks perfectly for me :P.

Sold. I was actually thinking of using Nemesis with Phoenix and Trish. Are there any particular bad match-ups?

Trish can set peekaboo and if they are annoyed with wright they will be even more annoyed with that assist.she can knock down,use round harvest and dhc into wrights super, leading time to get evidence obviously. Wrights super also hits low on the last hit so it can lead to unblockables which trish can set up,leading to objection time. Or right can use objection overruled and dhc into round harvest,hardtag to wright for the objection.

Any of wrights assists are awesome with MODOK,even the dog because it hits low. Break the witness can combo into jamming bomb REALLY easily and then not only do they have to deal with a ton of traps,projectiles and advancing guard doing nothing, they have to deal with an invincible assist and their controls being reversed as well, not to mention modoks cubes combos.

Dormammu and morrigan would be great too. Use dormammus assist which grants him access to stalking flare in a THC, if dormmamu is ever on point then he can gather 3 destruction points and now thats a couple of crazy assists for a guy who will soon have a crazy assist himself…sorta too good. Not to mention stalking flare is free evidence and morrigans assist is free stalking flare.

Team mens rea, criminal intent. I think the idea with wright is sorta like zangief. Everyone is scared of the spd so they get hit by all the other things trying to avoid it. With wright your goal miht be to make the opponent fear turnabout mode so greatly that they get destroyed trying to prevent it

Wow, did this thread take a turn for the surprising! My three favorite charcters (from a character only standpoint, not tier cred) in the game were MODOK, Wright and Nemesis, and I was only poking around at ways they might not totally suck together. Now, all of the sudden, they’re credible and might actually have some synergy in a real match? And I’ll have a reason to pick up MODOK again?

My team right now

PW (YES YES YES) / Hagger (Lariat) / Taskmaster (h shot)

Way to start match : Neutral jump over opponent while calling hagger. Lets me control the space, and is safe. Phoenix can’t be thrown due to OS tech, Hagger covers attacks.

Then go for a DHC combo into hagger or go for Turnabout.

My current team is:

Phoenix Wright (Press da Witness) / Arthur (Dagger Toss) / Haggar (Lariat) aka Team Judge, Jury and Executioner.

Ideally, I get Nick to Turnabout mode and switch him out with Haggar (thus allowing Wright to take his wrightful place as Executioner). If not, I tend to raw tag/DHC in Arthur. Because Arthur can move around while he’s throwing Goddess Bracelet, he has an easier time DHCing to Wright (who usually only has Maya Smelting on deck). Break the Witness is so great, the wall bounce allows Haggar to combo into Rapid Punch super after an OTG cr. H and some more shit… Aaaaand, if Wright dies early, there’s always XF3 Gold Armor Arthur.

Jam sess is the best anti air assist with Dormammu’s one, Rapid slash on hit or block puts the opponent to the otherside of the screen so if used correctly, you can get a really good keep away game going and get evidence very quickly and early. Switch out for Vergil and then your set as Vergil is already ridiculously good on his own so lob in Phoenix wright and then GGs all round.

I’ve been switching it up with Wright’s team order. I’ve been trying out a Nemmy/PW/Sent team. Goal is zone with Nem+Sent to get meter, then get a combo, TAC into Wright and then THC for damage and evidence. Both Nem and Sent are great with Wright assist. Nem makes them scared to press buttoms, allowing for command grabs, and the same goes for sent, and it helps when rushing down of course.

One problem I have that’s constant with all my Wright teams is when to call assist/maya. It’s extremely hard for me to find a spot to call an assist in, no matter who against or where I’m at. If I call Maya what usually happens is I’m too slow to get inside her and I end up getting blown up.

One thing that’s working surprisingly well that I have been doing actually is when oppenents are close and your inside the Maya shield, is to attack with H or S and lead into combo. Most of the time people are desperately trying to hit you trying to stop you gathering evidence, and a good air series into OitC and DHC if you want.

Also if PW is anchor and has some meter, Order in the Court is a good super to throw out. In clutch moments it’s helped me take the lead over someones rushdown wesker, or a spencer running away.

I gotta agree with everyone using Nemmy, I just picked him up today. They work quite well together. I’m considering a Nemesis/Wright/Ammy team (or alternatively, Vergil in Ammy’s place, he’s a decent anchor if all hell breaks loose and he’s got that pushback assist like Shadow2bolt mentioned). If zoning works well with Nemesis, I could stick Bloom on Ammy to get meter for that THC with Wright. To be honest, I find it hard to make good use of Cold Star, but that might just be because I never have hugely rushdown/mixup oriented characters on my team.

One thing in particular I like about Nemesis is the launcher slam assist. Personally, I think staying in Investigation to have access to Maya isn’t too shabby. If they attack her once, you can essentially get a free combo into Turnabout with a rightly timed launcher slam. Plus, you can use it to collect evidence mid combo, which isn’t too shabby.

After playing at launch with Wright/Hsien-ko/Sentinel, I think I found a much better team of… Hsien-ko/Wright/Sentinel.

First chance she gets, Hsien-ko golden armors and switches to Phoenix Wright. If it isn’t safe to tag in, I can DHC into Maya Smelting. From there, even when under pressure from Derpsker or Hurrgil, Golden Hsien-ko gives me enough time to call a Maya Shield, then Sentinel Drones for more protection. By the time the Drones are gone, call Hsien-ko again and repeat. Once I have my evidence and am in Courtroom mode, if I want to zone with evidence, either assist can cover me, or when I’m ready to go into Turnabout, call Lei-Lei again and hit them with Objection while she catches them pressing buttons.

Once I get to Turnabout, I tag back into Hsien-ko (which is completely safe, because she’s still armored.) so she can gain some meter. Now she get’s an invincible assist via Wright’s Turnabout Paperwork (she can’t really do anything off a wallbounce.) Ideally, once I build 4 meters, I do an air combo, use her golden armor again, then DHC into Ace Attorney, which hits OTG. Then Lei-Lei is already armored, so the whole process can begin again.

I like to call this team “Beautiful Armor” because they all have some form of armor/invincibility, and unlike Nemesis and Hulk, look good while doing it (especially Sentinel… what >_>)

After I get the opponent into knockdown at the end of a combo:

  1. Gather 1 Evidence
  2. Call Nemesis Launcher
  3. Almost Simultaneously, jump back, j.:d: + :h:

I swear it works around 70% of the time and after Nemesis Launcher connects, you literally get 2-3 more stabs at gathering evidence. Such a great assist for Nick.

My main team at the moment is:

Wright: Press the Witness
Chun-Li: Lightning Legs
She-Hulk: Somersault+

I know Doom would probably make better use in this team than Chun-Li, but my rule of thumb has always been to main who you like and find a way to make the team work. So far, I’ve been able to do just that.

So it looks like everyone is slowly realizing that its better to THC into PW rather than have him on point

I was going to try PW (press the witness) / iron fist (rising fang) / dr strange (daggers or eye) (in what order, I havn’t decided yet)

Id imagine the iron fist assist can work well for the GTFO factor for PW, when he IS trying to gather evidence. For over the top gtfo you can use the eye of agamotto from strange too, crouch if they jump into it, then gather evidence while they’re getting hit. Of course if you get PW to turnabout, iron fist can use that as a semi-lockdown to get in to do his thing, and Dr. strange could use that PW assist as well to keep ground enemies out. Iron fist could also benefit more from the daggers assist rather than the Eye of Agamotto, unless he wants to do some gangster combo. I guess you would have Agamotto assist so that you have two chars with a GTFO assist for PW to do is work, as everyone else earlier in this thread is right (you don’t want him last against 2 chars). Due to the buffs mid-combo, Iron Fist can also go into battery mode for the others

Just a random thought though. I didn’t play vanilla at all so not sure how much any of this would work. Since this is my current team I hope it does lol

Frank West - Pick Me Up

Skrull’s Orbital Grudge does a good job of warding off opponents even though there’s a small start up. Frank is there for gauge boost when it’s safe, maybe keeping the shopping cart would be better or use tools of survival instead. The idea I had was when I team hyper combo Skrull’s inferno can cover Wright from all angles, pull Maya shield when team hyper starts just in case and start getting evidence, unfortunately a well timed poke can disrupt all of the team members’ hyper. Probably not the best way to play Wright but I try to keep him on point as much as possible and only change when necessary.

I’ve been trying out PW, Nem, Sent and its pretty decent. I find Drones better than Cold Star, only problem is Nem’s assists aren’t good, but a THC after air combo with PW and Nem leads to big damage, evidence, and free time to setup maya+drones. I don’t know why but everytime I tried using Ammy with PW she just ended up getting hit , which doesn’t happen on any other teams I have her on. Probably just because I’m not rushing down with the assist.

Nemesis is also good on point with PW 2nd. DHC goes into big damage, and if Nemesis get’s comboed most likely he will live due to his big health and you will gain a good amount of meter.

MODOK works really well with PW
barrier and psionic blaster are both great assists for him
THC with 2 bars -> HPB lasts forever and lets u gather evidence ala dante
modok with barriers and invinc. PW assist is godlike and really hard to hit

To me, having one of these THC characters in 2nd Slot is ALWAYS a great option for any Wright-based team

Vergil’s Judgement Cut over Rapid Slash? Personally, I’d think something that places your opponent on the other side of the screen would be better, what makes you say Judgement Cut though?

Also, any reason for the bold for Nemesis’ Clothesline Rocket? I didn’t really think any of his assists were noteworthy, just that his THC lasts forever. I’m pretty new with him so I could be missing something.

On my main team, PW/Nemesis/Wesker, it’s my assist of choice. Fairly safe, and any hit-confirms with Wright lead to a wall bounce which gives you time for 1-2 attempts at evidence.
