Nice. How did the team fair through the progression of the tourney?
EDIT: Just skimmed through the fights with ChrisG on the channel and it looks like he eventually swapped with his Firebrand team. I’ll watch the fights in detail once I get home to see what happened.
ChrisG definitely has an interesting take on the Dante expediting process. As far as leveling Wright up quickly, it looks like he’s built a great team. But it’s pretty one dimensional. If he loses Wright, what binds Morrigan and Dante together? Meter assist isn’t particularly useful for a great meter builder like Dante and Dante doesn’t really back Morrigan up either. Dante is still a very good character and Morrigan isn’t bad, but I don’t think they have any business together outside of motions to expedite. It’s a very smart gimmick team, though.
Motions to expedite definitely looks nice. I’ll have to try this out. Though my Dante is rather scrubby and I haven’t touched Morrigan since Tastunoko.
I’ve been doing pretty fine just playing PW in courtroom mode and getting in behind my paperwork. But I should see if I can get some free wins.
I was screaming at Chris G to use Maya against RayRay. Or his evidence projectiles. Or Dante to TAC/DHC into Objection. He didn’t use any of those… ;__;
Does the meter building assist work if Dante is in DT mode? If so, it’s still somewhat useful. He won’t be able to make his teleports safe without an assist, though.
I’ve definitely noticed a lot of Phoenix Wrights on Xbox Live don’t really play the character. The majority toss out Maya and try to gather evidence. It’s so easy to rush in and stomp on his face. Not to mention Maya does not stop normal grabs, which can be fatal against chars like Wolverine who can combo afterwards with an assist.
The best Phoenix Wright I’ve played against had Trish on point. She built up meter then used Round Harvest and hard tagged out Phoenix Wright. The second I was free from Trish’s hyper PW had Maya protecting him AND Chun-li who was using Hyakuretsukyaku. I couldn’t touch him as he easily got all of his evidence.
But none the less all of the PWs I’ve played against, once they get into turnabout mode they aren’t that much a threat. If they use PW as an assist only I’ll just jump back to avoid him, or jump over him. Either way I don’t attempt to fight my opponent unless I know he’s on cool down. Usually I’ll go for air grabs when they try to jump over me and use PW assist as a mix-up.
When it comes to the actual PW in turnabout mode I’ve yet to have one use their projectiles against me. They all come jumping forward pointing their accusing finger. As I play Hulk I’ll wait till the position is right and then just Heavy knowing that my armor will take the blow for me.
Less safe but still viable is just rushing in or going for a air grab. None of them seem to see it coming.
Oh and of course if they are in melee range and hit you with a finger which you block you can always X-Factor and destroy him.
My point being I feel like a lot of players, or at least the ones I play on Xbox Live, are just using him for Turnabout Mode and not really getting a feel for the character and learning how to really trick up their opponents.
This is precisely my problem with my Wright team. I currently have Nemesis replacing Dante because (A) my Dante game kinda stinks, and I really don’t feel confident in using him just to try for another 0.5 seconds of evidence gathering via crossover combos, and (B) Nemesis is easily my favorite and most used character in Ultimate alongside Wright, and I’m pretty comfortable with him no matter where he is on the team. It just conveniently happened that chocolate has met peanut butter, and I’m Mr. Reese’s.
My biggest problem now is to find a third with that perfect synergy that I also feel comfortable with on their own (whether I used them in vanilla or feel confident with them in ultimate) . The pool of characters I’m looking at are Hawkeye, Wesker, Ghost Rider, Trish, Vergil, CapAm, Akuma, Chris, Hulk, Amaterasu, Sentinel, or even M.O.D.O.K. if need be.
This pretty much sums up what I’m trying to do here. It doesn’t matter if I’m using Wright for Turnabout, Dante for Million Dollar Cross combos, or even Phoenix for DARK PHOENIX RISES, it doesn’t matter to me unless I can play the character itself comfortably and competently on its own. I have been opting for Hawkeye and Wesker lately in the third role for this reason, but I can’t help but wonder if there is a better option for Wright and Nemesis…
Okay what about a team consisting of Wright/Chris/Morrigan with Chris having the landmine assist.
The landmine must be a very good way to protect Wright while getting covered also by Maya I think is considered a really good anti-air too as it allows you a followup if you are hit as the landmine explodes and gives you enough time to recover and attack.
I mentioned before the option of Chris as a good teammate as the Grenade Launcher Hyper takes a lot of time as Dante and is safer if its blocked because of the grenade he launches upwards. Sadly I don’t have the game with me right now so I can’t try this but I also think that on hit, both Maya’s and Grenade Launcher Hypers hit completely and none of the Chris shots whiff but I haven’t tried it so if somebody can do me the favor and confirm this, it will be great.
Also Wright’s Pressing the Assist might help Chris do combos similar to what llnd does with Hsien-ko and Morrigan makes this combos more viable as most of these combos use two or even more meters.
So compared with Dante, Chris gives to this team:
[LIST]
[]A kind-of GTFO assist on the landmine and might work as the OTG that Morrigan heavily needs.
[]Similar amount of time to get evidence with THC.
[]Same health as Nemesis and some people have realized that high health chars are more difficult to kill in this game that in MVC3.
[]Can take more advantage of the meter gave by Morrigan.
[]Chris has been buffed enough to be able to use effectively without relying heavily on assists and if he gets the help of Wright’s Turnabout assist he gets a lot better.
[]THC from Chris and Morrigan might also give enough time for Chris to shoot all his grenades and if a char teleports he can get hit by the second shot.

Team im running now with great success actually it Wright(press the witness)/Nemesis(clothesline launcher)/X-23(crecent sythe)
mayas sheild protects against spammers and projectiles also rushdowns… gives enough time for nemmy to assist and knock em to the other side of the screen… if they jump in x-23 assist handles that…
after i get my evidence switch out to nemesis do a TAC and get into turnabout… usually a wrap after that…
turnabout press the witness assist is mean with x-23 usually dont even have to bring out pheonix again
i use phoenix wright, ammy, and morrigan. That man had made my team even better. It used to be Hulk, ammy, and morrigan. But he change how I play with the other two. I love Phoenix Wright. But yeah throwing out maya to gather evidence isn’t bad. But calling a team hyper is not a bad idea. So, I suggest mixing it up with maya’s shield, assist, and when you get some meter. Throw out a team hyper. I also like Trial mode a lot. I think we shouldn’t try to get to turnabout mode quickly. I found some decent trial mode combos and mix up.
Same here. I’ve been running Ghost Rider/Ammy/Wright with a good deal of success online(probably will be less when I get above 6th lord though), but I’ve been struggling against the small and/or agile characters like RR, Firebrand, or X-23. Also, characters who can zone pretty well like Deadpool or Dorm blow my GR up.
Doom seems to be a good solution, but he seems pretty execution heavy. I can only get one loop of his BnB consistently, and that’s offline.
Also, I’ve been hearing better things about Dormammu than GR, but he also seems kinda difficult to get good with. It’s hard to practice zoning in training mode. They’re no Weskers by any means.
Yeah, trial mode is pretty decent. It’s funny beating Akuma’s tatsu with Maya’s shield and a sneeze.
Also, Wright has mixups? Do tell.
Oh, and also, for you guys that run Wright on point, what are you doing to avoid being completely rushed down? If I use Maya’s shield after a knockdown, they can roll through it, and if they see the shield coming they just jump over it. And if I try to call Cold Star or another assist to buy me time, I get happy birthday’d a lot. I know it’s something I’m doing wrong and not a Wright issue, but I can’t figure out what.
You need to be inside Maya’s shield in order for it to be effective. You should’t be getting happy-birthdayed if your assists are also being covered by her. For example, when I use Frank’s assist, Maya is able to cover him until his shopping cart comes out, in which he’d rush out of the shield with the cart already out.
Well for starters I’ll tell you my mix up. Throw paper, use my good evidence, call assist, and find ways into turnabout. I also like doing questioning into swine flu( my name for his launcher). Now your question about dealing with rushdown with Wright on point. It’s simple my good man. Call assist and Maya will protect you. I suggest you don’t forget to advance guard any rushdown to help with the cause.
Oh wait, totally got trial and investigation modes switched up. Derp.
But yeah, interesting mixup idea. I don’t think anyone’s come up for a use for the paper other than a couple flashy combos.
My Wright is anti-rushdown. I’m currently a 6th Lord and have no trouble from Wolverines or Weskers. I’ll always start jumping back. I look out for what assist my opponent has, avoid that. Then call my assist to stop the rush down just for a sec. In that second I switch to court room/trial mode. With no evidence.
I normally hug the corner. Regardless of if I’m being rushed from above or straight on I spam light Paperwork High. It doesn’t look like it but this move protects you amazingly from above. By spamming Hulk anti-air assist and Paperwork I can’t even be touched. Once my opponent starts to respect the paper and is just blocking it I’ll dash in behind my papers and go for a combo. If I’m being blocked then I’ll Light -> Medium -> Heavy -> Paperwork High
If I’m not being blocked then I’ll do my combo, I don’t launch I just go right into Steel Samurai Maya.
While Maya carries my opponent across the screen I’ll switch to investigation mode and nab two evidence. I’ll normally then switch back to Courtroom/trial mode.
Also worth noting is while you’re in courtroom/trial mode you have access to the Judge hyper. That hyper has soooooo much invincibility. When I mess up and know I’m gonna get hit I’ll just call out the Judge and get bailed out of that sticky situation.
I normally gather all of my evidence when I KO someone as there is a lot of free time to do so.
