If it will please the jury: the phoenix wrights team thread

What do you all think of Wright/Morrigan/Doom?

Assuming you’re using the MorriDoom combo with Wright, I think it could work. I’d use Paperwork (Storm) for more stuff on the screen with Morrigan.

That and just running Doom’s missiles to give PW time to collect evidence.

For Hsien-ko/Wright, does anyone think it would be okay if I went with something like Morrigan (Dark Harmonizer), Trish (Peekaboo or Low Voltage), or Tron (Boulder) anchor? Or do I really, really need that Missiles/Drones/Cold Star/whatever lockdown assist?

I’m still stuck in my fundamental dilemma that I don’t particularly care for any of the lockdown assist characters, for one reason or another. (I do think Ammy is a cool character, but I don’t have much fun with her playstyle. All of the other lockdown assist characters I just don’t really like.)

If you don’t have a lockdown assist, it will be much harder to collect evidence. Not impossible, but much harder.

So today I was on the FGTVLive stream, and just for fun I picked Viscant’s Worst Team in the Game. If you don’t remember what that is, scroll down to the bottom:

Chun-li(Up-Kicks)/Phoenix Wright(Press the Witness)/Hsien-ko (Item Toss). So I picked it just to mess around, and… I won! And the other player wasn’t bad either. So I played it about 10 more times and even managed to win 1 or 2 with this team. And the stream was getting hype, over my scrubby Wright and Hsien-ko and non-existent Chun-li! I kind of want to keep playing it as a “just for fun” team. So, let’s theorycraft!

Start with Chun-li and maybe build some meter, land a combo into either hyper and DHC into Maya. If I have 3 meters, DHC again into Hsien-ko’s Gold Armor and switch back to Wright. Now I have an invincible projectile assist (albeit one that provides almost no lockdown), and an anti-air assist to help Wright cover the air, something he has trouble with. If I THC, I get Chun’s Kicks hyper, which has start-up invincibility and locks them down for a long time, and launches them in the air if it hits. If I have 3 meters, I also get Hsien-ko’s Chiretou hyper which carries them away, although I don’t know if one will override the other.

Gather evidence, maybe zone with evidence a little. But eventually land the Objection, either on point or TAC into it, and immediately tag in Hsien-ko. If she’s gold armored there’s little risk in raw tagging, and now I can save Turnabout Wright for last. After that, I can try to zone with Hsien-ko’s projectiles and Up-Kicks assist, or rushdown with PtW assist for more pressure. If Hsien-ko goes down, Chun rushes down with PtW assist. If Chun goes down, X-Factor Turnabout Wright goes nuts.

Keep in mind this is absolutely NOT a viable team. If you want to make Wright work you probably need a lockdown assist, like Metaskipper said, and preferably a GTFO assist. This is just me trying to see how I can make the worst team in the game work, just for the hell of it. :wink2:

Phoenix, why is our love so wrong yet it feels so Wright.

It seems that Mr. Wright needs assists to get in and help. I can’t decide if I want him on point or anchor but I’m looking at using him with Felicia as team “Paw and Order”.

I think Doom and Sent are natural choices and while I hate Sent I’m already forcing myself to learn him for another team.

Generally Wright is played on point if you have the assists to back him up on his evidence collecting, second if you don’t, and it’s not advised to place him on anchor since he doesn’t have the tools to make a comeback. Felicia doesn’t really have keep away assists but sand splash does help OTG (I think it does?) for an easy objection after an overhead, and rolling buckler can help create unblockables, though since you’re using Sentinel his drones can help or a good beam assist can help too.

Honestly I would say play him in the position where you’re most comfortable in.

Just some points about positions imo

Point
+Head start in collecting evidence. (If the momentum of the match shifts in your favor)
+Opponent might not have experience on dealing with Wright. ( A lot of people who don’t face Wright don’t know his :f::m: is an overhead)
+An initial trial mode zoning game if you manage to get the cellphone.
+Opponents will be rushing you down and might burn their x-factor doing so. (A luring game if you think about it)
-If Wright dies then your gameplan might be ruined.
-Opponent would have a large HP lead if Wright didn’t manage to get any offense in**.**

Second
+DHC into Wright for an easy collection of five evidence providing you killed the opponent’s character with a hyper then DHC into Wright.
+Wright can avoid setups from when the match is counting down.
+Wright can use his assists to benefit some characters
+Maya is a safe DHC for all characters due to the startup invincibility when DHCing.
-If point character dies then Wright is vulnerable to mixups and setups on the incoming.
-Incoming Wright with no evidence which may make it harder to get evidences.
-Uses two meters just for Wright.
Anchor
+Large damage from X-factor level 3. (Especially if you managed to happy birthday someone with the judge hyper then X-factor)
+You can keep calling Maya hyper using :a1:+:a2: for only one bar per Maya, it’s devastating in the corner, but expensive on meter.
+X-factor loop in Turnabout with :d::h:, there might be some x-factor combos in investigation and trial.
+Opponent might get overconfident and a slight chance at outplaying them.
+Very devastating cellphone chip damage in turnabout mode with x-factor 3 and trial cellphone chip is good with x-factor 3.
-Same as second vulnerable to mixups and setups on incoming.
-Same as second no evidence makes it difficult to collect.
-Normals don’t have the greatest priority, low mobility, and reliance on cellphone makes it difficult to do a reversal on the match.
-No meter for anchor Wright makes it very difficult for him.

Hope this helps.

I use Wright/Haggar or Haggar/Wright depending on who the first char is on the other team

I always told myself I want a P.Wright team and only recently did I try to do it. At the moment it’s P.Wright/She-Hulk/Shuma. I’m wondering about Wright’s placement (simply put, him in front is something I’m not comfortable with when I have She-Hulk second.) So I’m having questions about placement (even though the team itself isn’t even remotely close to optimal but if I wanted something optimal I’d not play ANY of these characters).

Second, assists. I’d go with Missile/Torpedo/Mystic Ray but I might be convinced to go for Paperwork if that’s what you guys deem best. Full-screen low (Missile), Some-Screen low (Torpedo) and “screen filling” assist in Mystic Ray (IIRC it’s also a OTG) seems like the best set-up. Especially with P.Wright’s forward M, allowing me to do Maya set-ups without actually calling Maya.

But yeah this is really just a “To have fun” team.

Stuck on making a Nick team. So far, I got Wright(PtW)/Dante(Jam Session)/???
I have no idea who to put in that last slot. I’m thinking a beam/projectile assist, but before someone says Doom, I don’t particularly like using him. Lol. I’d imagine Sent drones would be good, though I don’t like his low health or his big hitbox, not to mention I’m no good with him. Any ideas? I had Frank West as Anchor before, but I figured having the Shopping Cart and Jam Session was pretty repetitive.

You could use Cold star,Vajra,Hate to say it but Doom since you could run either Missiles or beam,Unibeam to name a few I use Wright/Haggar/Doom sadly not the most unique team

Magneto, Hawkeye, Arthur, Iron Man, Shuma, Doctor Strange, Taskmaster, and Chris all have good projectile assists, although some are better anchors than others. Mags, IM, Strange, and Shuma are probably your best bets since those are all beams and can hit the opponents assist well.

Seems like a pretty good team to me. Was honestly debating between Dante(Jam Session) or Haggar(Lariat) in the second spot. I figured since Jam Session pretty much covers an entire section of the screen, it would be better for Nick, but then again, Haggar’s probably the better GTFO assist. Might switch between the two if I find a problem with Jam Session.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’d been thinking about using Doctor Strange actually(I’m assuming Bolts assists for Nick). Would he be considered a good anchor? Or at least a decent one?

Mainly what poryon2 said for beam assists. Used to run Nemmy then switched to Haggar I use Get’em missle cause it hits low. Like I said not the most unique team but Sadly I like Doom :frowning:

IMO he’s a decent anchor. I used to play him on my PW team on anchor and it was difficult when it was all up to him. If you have a lot of meter and the opponent has no more XF he’s pretty good, but outside of that it can be hard, but I never really got used to play as Strange in the first place. I’d imagine if you could get good with Strange he’d probably be a good anchor all around.

Alright thanks. One more thing. What would be the best assist for Nick for this team?

Probably Paperwork, but I can’t see you using it in neutral game much. I’d suggest seeing if any of PW’s assists can help out Dante/Strange in combos, otherwise paperwork is probably the best.

Question: A friend was really hoping he could have a Wright team and he already uses Hulk and Rocket Raccoon together, so I was thinking that Wright / Hulk / RR could maybe work. I’m guessing that Wright could use Missile assist, Hulk could have Anti-Air to protect Wright, and RR could have Claymore assist to protect Wright’s rear. He doesn’t really use many other characters other than those so characters like Dante or Doctor Doom wouldn’t work for him. Any thoughts on Wright/Hulk/RR?

I was thinking more Pendulums and Log traps for RR.

As a whole, it’s not a bad idea. Log Trap and Gamma Charge are both good GTFO’s, but Log Trap has pretty bad durability.
