Ryu has a better mk than Akuma but Akuma has a better sweep. And when you land that sweep you can do SO much more compared to a mk. There were a lot of times in those Daigo Infil matches where Daigo had a significant life lead but Infil would land one sweep start up the vortex and the round was over. The only way to tell whos really better is if they were to play Ryu vs Ryu.
Floyd is best in the last 20years. Robinson is best of all time. It helps that Robinson had 200 fights compared to Floyd’s 46.
Also, anyone who hasn’t seen it; watch “the fight of the century” with Ali and Fraizer. It is a magnificent piece of pop history and shows the true sport of boxing at it’s best. Capcom seriously needs to make a stance change boxer that is like a mix between Ali and Frazier.
of course. but I was getting at how you were talking about “ST isn’t like SF4 and skills don’t always transfer between them.” same with 3s! as evidenced by my competent 3s play and my awful SF4 play. lol.
though now that I think about it, are any major SF games similar? SF2, Alpha 2 and 3, 3s, SF4… you could take any one of those and say “it doesn’t play like any other game in the series.” though maybe they all have fast walk speed in common, minus SF4. so it ends up feeling a bit different on a very basic responsive level.
I feel like people aren’t as quick to realize how different SF4 is from the earlier games, because it doesn’t have an obvious system mechanic change, like parry.
Its closest relative is 3S, but if you were to remove parries from 3S it’d be closer to many of its predecessors than SF4 is, because the features they share (dashing, kara throws universal-ish overheads etc) work differntly. Even the spacing is different because of character size and jump arcs, and throws are a far stronger option in SF4, and ambiguous mixups (unblockable, safe jump or otherwise) are everywhere in the latter. Different hitstun, etc.
This is ignoring all of the problems the loss of parry would practically cause (denjin, aegis etc), but you get what I’m saying. SF4 changes are as big and fundamental as other games, in terms of how they affect the game- if somewhat less obvious.
You have GOT to be kidding me. Justin Wong is one of the most famous gamers in the world. He’s appeared on a reality TV show and basically every other competitor immediately knew who we was. He’s got an entire documentary about him. Fourwude said on his twitter recently that he went out to get something to eat with Justin and the dude was swamped with fanboys.
He doesn’t have Daigo’s level of fame, but he certainly up there.
Justin is the American Daigo. Right down to the difference in weight. If there was any two competitive players who should dress up as Ryu and Ken it is Daigo and Justin. (Seriously they should go to evo as Ryu and Ken one year.)
I didnt mean that yun is boring/ryu is more exciting . It’s a subjective matter which character you prefer to watch anyway. What I did mean is that the yun vs akuma matchup would be more in daigo’s favour and I feel one which he could win more comfortably than he could with ryu. If he won that match up most people would say oh thats cool but its advantage yun so meh!
I think most people would agree that he would have more success with yun but Daigo doesn’t want an easier time. If he beats Infiltration I can imagine that he would want that victory to be with ryu and no one else.
Idk, I prefer watching the Akuma army rather than downback charge characters in Super and the twins in AE.
Edit : I think a top tier Deejay would bring something fresh, he’s never been decent in the series at all, give him some more tools and combo possibilities.
jordan lost a lot too, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t the goat
there are intangibles that go beyond the game: style, charisma, attitude. the only guy i’d put on daigo’s level is vegas jake. maybe the original sf2 king tomo ohira, but he kinda lost me when he started selling toyotas.
And I’m sorry to say that Dieminion seems like a spectatular human being but he bores me to tears. The way a guy play does figure into his public image.
I know it’s all a matter of opinion but I can watch Dieminion’s Guile all day. Guile is a “boring” character, but Dieminion actually makes him look exciting.
Last week I was watching that tournament and Chris G and Dieminion went to the final. I watched it all the way but by the semis both their Sakura and Guile had put me to sleep so I just skipped the final completely and went to the gym.
Dieminion’s guile is actually one of the most active I’ve ever seen. It’s really hard to tell when he has charge or not because he is always moving and doing stuff against some opponents. It’s the most pro-active lame style ever lol. Guile is still boring as a character but Dieminion can make him pretty interesting depending on the matchup. Of course, Guile vs Bison or Guile vs Honda will be boring no matter WHO is playing, even if it was Dieminion vs Mike Ross it’d be pretty dull lol.
