What a dumb fuck. Of all the snakes out there to be bitten by, rattlesnakes are the easiest to avoid because THEY FUCKING WARN YOU.
Nah, not all the time, they dont. Thats just what people think/tell each other all the time, but rattlesnakes will strike without warning all the time. If you get a rattle, good, you got lucky and its playing nice.
The rattle is more if it doesn’t think it can kill you. Like, if you ride a horse near a rattlesnake, it will rattle. But the average human? Fuck that, you’re gonna get surprise bites.
I speak from experience. My job requires me to walk through the desert all day long and I come across rattlers very frequently. Nine times it of ten, unless it’s very cold or very early, you’re going to get warned upon approach. If you do get bit, you’d better hope it’s a big one. They’re more likely to give you a dry bite, wanting to save their venom for prey. It’s the juveniles you really want to watch out for.
I will just continue living in Canada, while the rest of the world continues to act as a buffer between us and natural disasters, poisonous critters, and mexicans.
A while back there was a shooting on the FSU campus and people were taking selfies and live tweeting about it as bullets were flying.

Lol, they’re really not that scary, honestly. A little startling sometimes. But, they don’t want to bite you and will almost always give you a chance to back away. Unless you’re a dumb fuck who wants to take a selfie with it.
That said, there is a trend lately with increased rattlesnake bites the last few years than normal. Not sure if that has to do with drier climate or more stupid people. Still, I’ll take a rattlesnake encounter over any of those crazy snikes they got in Australia. Those fuckers are scary!

Only advice for him, don’t take pictures of snakes unless the camera has a zoom function and you can be a couple feet away from it if that’s an occupation.

Where I used to live at least the ones that rattle have been taken out by natural selection (eaten by wild hogs) so the snakes that survived are the ones that adapted to not rattle. They will just lie in the grass and bite your ass if you get too close.
