I juggled this idea in the CAD thread, but I want to make it more public to the rest of the Midwest. I want to have a huge Fighting game tournament sometime in November/December, preferably on a Saturday.
A lot of things are in the air (specifically location), but I also want to get some input on other things. Hopeful game list would be:
MVC2
CVS2
GG: AC
SuperT
Third Strike
Melty Blood
KOF XI
Tekken 5 DR
VF5 (if there is a local following…I don’t know)
Smash (very pending mostly there for revenue sake)
and maybe one REALLY bad fighter for giggles like Art of Fighting 1, Shaq-Fu, or something to that accord.
I was thinking $5 buy ins with 1st place taking 1/2 the pot, 2nd taking 1/4 and 3rd taking 1/5. (Unless there is a tried and true system for divvying prize money).
At this time as for location I’m thinking Nickel City would be good because of the cabinets they can offer and it’s sort of a good location for ChicagoLand players.
I’d figure standard EVO rules apply, but this would be the first tournament I’ve ever ran so I’m looking for all input and help I can get, just figured it’d be nice to have a big tournament around the holidays (all that Christmas cheer…and you know, crap like that).
You should probably drop MBAC for Arcana Heart, I’m pretty sure 90% of everybody in the Midwest with interest in MBAC did the same. I could be wrong though.
We tried to start an annual tournament in December/January here in Missouri and we actually had two prospective dates for it snowed the fuck out last year, like twenty inches of snow. I understand the appeal of December/January since there are no other tournaments really going on around that time, but… well, the weather may be why that’s the case. Something to think about.
Also, your date is probably going to be pretty close to Midwest Challenge which is also at Nickel City. That may not be a bad thing, but it may be.
Also I’d advise getting many more people than you think you need to help staff the event, like at least double what you’re imagining. Make people take shifts if you really do end up with more people than you needed (which is unlikely). Running the tournament will wear you out (if you’re anything like me anyway, and I didn’t even do my fair share of the work at our tournaments).
I don’t think there’s a Challenge thread yet. It just usually happens real early in the year. Even though it usually gets the same attendance (at least from Midwest players, which is probably all you can hope for your first time) as Midwest Championships, it’s usually less of a “big deal” on the forums – not as much info ahead of time, not as many vids after, etc etc etc.
I guess what I’m saying is there’s a really good chance you won’t get 10 for MBAC.
I heard that if you have a mini evo near brighton michigan that umm it will be the biggest tourny ever. so that must mean it should be there. or something yea.
