Yeah having those high level matches as some sort of “If you leave the game idle too long…” feature. I think it would be cool if it had the commentary though. Sometimes the commentary for a tournament match is more enjoyable than the fight itself. Example: Any marvel match becomes entertaining when Yipes is talking over it.
But really this should not happen before a fight for these reasons
- If there is enough time before a game is ready to play, that you can watch an entire few minute Street Fighter match before it’s ready, the game shouldnt even launch yet because Capcom needs to fix the load times
- Even if the load times arent that long, watching a few seconds of a game is pretty pointless. When you watch a match, you want to see the whole thing, not a quarter of the first round.
- Who would be in charge of selecting these fights and how do we know they arent retarded? This kind of thing would need some quality control.
- Why would this be restricted to just SF5 matches? Why could we see some matches of games past? Some ST matches, Evo Moment 37(even though us regular players are tired of hearing about it) and some other 3S matches. Some really good matches from SF4 at EVO, or maybe even some stuff from the Alpha games. The early advertising game seemed to be using FGC history in the video, so why not apply it here as well?
This idea makes tons of sense. But I I don’t think the loading is long enough to slide in a replay. If so I think your internet connection would be excellent to do that. But I also think that if they were to preload the replays and then sneak them in during loading it should be awesome. Like a most viewed replay of the day. Something of the sort
This shouldn’t be a loading screen (unless it’s not an entire match but rather a round, which can be anywhere from 15 seconds up to a whole round) but rather a feature - if you remember, MK Deception had a semitransparent showcase of random gameplay footage depending on the mode that was highlighted in the menu, and it wasn’t in a way of the menu itself, didn’t take an entire screen, and was there to make you not feel like there’s empty space, because Deception just had a simple background for their menus
killer Instinct also does this in Season 2 menu. SF5 may too
That, or just put the replays in a huge server based database for Replay Channel, so that the replays themselves wouldn’t take up gigabytes of space on the hard-drive (which can be an issue in the first option)
Only problem I see with this is that during the tournament - the games don’t save local replays (and I’m not even sure there are any that do so for single player, unlike multi-player matches that can be recorded and stored on the console), the replays can often have crappy quality and not even be in 60fps (and yes, I saw some streams that weren’t 60fps for SF4), and have annoying commentary going on, as well as a gazillion of different overlays, camera switches, etc etc)
