Every attack can be meaty. It’s just a matter of timing it correctly.
oo ok thats something else ill have to work on lol thanks again mingo
Ive been practicing in training mode for the past 2 days and not doing any online and now i went to play online and lost 6 times in a row and havent won yet… it seems like ive gotten worse now whats wrong???
Don’t take online so seriously. It’s not always an accurate indicator of improvement. Your best bet is to play as safe and solid as possible, because there’s tons of online scrubs that will mash out that dp.
But anyways, try posting some videos up so we can see what’s going on.
like im practicing my anti airs combos and vortex and what not and it seems like im getting the hang of the timing and stuff, but when im in a match nothing seems to work. I can never get close enough to do much. I may as well not go to that local tournie of mine now id just embarrass myself i shud prolly wait until ive developed my skills a bit. the next tornament is in 2 weeks anyway
Looks like you just quoted yourself lol.
What do you mean “nothing seems to work”? Are you dropping combos? Messing up setups? This is why we need to see some videos.
You should definitely go to your local tournament, regardless of your skill level. Don’t worry so much about embarrassing yourself. I’ve seen some really terrible flowcharts at my tourney, but they still learned stuff and had fun, and that’s what counts. If you keep playing online scrubs all day, you’ll likely adopt lag tactics and you may never actually experience the depth that SF has to offer.
also wat is something else to hit an opponent on wakeup cause i find myself always super jumping and throwing a kunai im pretty sure that would get predictible…but i could be wrong what do i know…
yea i guess i drop combos pretty often… i guess i dont play well under pressure even against some scrubby ken that only uses his specials i lost…
cr.LP/cr.LK or usually good meaties because they pave the way for easy option selects (eg: sweep). Safe jumps are also excellent options because they’re safe (duh) and are also (usually) meaties.
It’s okay to use kunai vortex for now. It’s pretty much universal against most of the cast, and it’s a powerful tool in Ibuki’s okizeme arsenal. Who cares if it’s predictable or not. If it works, keep using it until your opponent figures it out.
ok thanks ill try that out srry if im annoying with all my questions
u wer right lol im actually winning now and the game seems like its getting alot easier AND im actually starting to hit with some of the target combos and the vortex :3 maybe i do stand a chance at my tournie after all
I competed in my local tournie and actually won a couple matches woot. as for the people skill levels actually a lot of them are worse than me but some are better yet none are amazing. Anywho now that ive played some real people i have some questions not all of them are about ibuki but hey some are so i may as well put um all here. first off a lot of people were throwing ALOT and i never know when theyre about to throw me when are common times for people to attempt a throw?(sorry if thats worded poorly i couldnt think of any other way of saying it) ok next question if a kunai cross up is blocked what would be the best thing to do next. ok lastly is it good to sjc into your ultra(with your lp to mp to hp tc) . what i mean is is it stronger than using the ultra after a focus attack for example. Thanks in advance for answers :3
First, what tourney was it? Is there a bracket online somewhere (ie: tonamento)? Who won? Any famous people there (eg: Daigo)? How many people entered? How did you place?
Most throws are during frame trap situations or tick throw setups. eg: cr.LP , throw (for most characters). If you cannot tech throws, a good player will pick up on this and abuse the hell out of it (see JWong’s Adon vs some random at NCR9). Other times throws are common are during neutral situations or resets (eg: blocking Ryu’s f+HP which is 0 on block, or an air to air trade). After some experience, you’ll most likely be inputting throw without even thinking about it, in nearly every time you subconsciously suspect a throw.
If the kunai vortex is blocked, the best thing to do next is to followup with a blockstring and/or frame trap setup or some other mixup. Your job is to knock your opponent down again or gain a better position, both achieved usually via pressure game.
SJC U2 is situational. If it’ll finish off your opponent, then by all means go for it. If it won’t, then it gets tricky. You have to consider damage scaling to see if it’ll be worth over doing a tsumuji loop (if possible). You also have to consider how good your corner pressure game is, and if putting your opponent in the corner would make any difference. Lastly, you’ll have to keep in mind that once you SJC U2, you lose your momentum (compared to a neckbreaker/tsumuji/other untechable knockdown). The best you can do is dash over and begin far.st.LP pressure.
Edit: if you meant just what does more damage, then:
TC4 xx SJC U2 - 452dmg
FA2 , TC4 xx SJC U2 - 394dmg
FA2 , TC4 xx lk.Tsumuji , st.LP , st.MK xx Neckbreaker - 311dmg
FA2 , TC4 2x tsumuji loop neckbreaker - 329dmg
FA3 , TC4 xx SJC U2 - 454dmg
Kunai , TC4 xx SJC U2 - 422dmg
j.LK , TC4 xx SJC U2 - 432dmg
FA2 , st.MP , st.MK 2x tsumuji loop neckbreaker - 340dmg
FA2 , st.MP , st.MK 1x tsumuji loop neckbreaker - 322dmg
FA2 , cr.HP xx SJC U2 - 442dmg
FA2 , cr.HP xx lk.Tsumuji , st.LP , st.MK xx Neckbreaker - 328dmg
(combo thread was lacking a bit with up to date AE values so I figured I’d do a little bit more elaborate testing)
tl,dr: Depends on the FA, but if it’s FA3, then it’ll be more damaging than doing it any other way. But if your tsumuji loops are on point, you can come close to SJC U2 damage, meanwhile racking up stun and keeping the untechable knockdown, or mixup if you choose. On the other hand, if you drop TC4 (which you should never use in punish situations like FA due to the dmg nerf) in favor of st.MP , st.MK or cr.HP combo starters, you can really pack a punch with Ibuki’s ninjitsu.
usually you would only want to SJC into U2 if it will end the round due the damage scaling. otherwise it is better to go with another ender so that you can continue okizeme. There are a lot of things you can do after a focus attack so it depends a lot on the situation. sometimes it is good to go for a reset such as cl.st.hk SJC lk cd, Cr.HP or to do a combo into okizeme. If a kunai is blocked you generally want to go for another mix-up in your block string. you could tick throw, you could frame trap, you could bait a DP if the opponent likes to mash, endless possibilities . In general, I go for either a tick throw or frame trap ending with the mk tsumuiji ender. At this point I either go for a second frame trap or wait to whiff puinish a button.
As for when people are likely to throw is in blockstrings. I suggest you watch some high level match video and look at when they throw. Also, if you don’t already know about it, I suggest you learn about crouch-teching because a lot of the throw, frame trap game in SF4 revolves around it.
Ibuki has a very good forward throw that leads to a mix-up about as ambiguous IMO as the kunai cross-up oki. Congrats on winning some matches at your local tourney. Where do you play out of?
EDIT: ninja’d by Mingo
this was just a local thing there were only ppl from my town so there were no pros. TBH from some of the videos ive seen of some of the ppl on this thread im pretty sure some of the better ones could have won easily. Most of the people there played as ryu and evil ryu at least 75% and apperently im the only ibuki player in my town. The next tournament is in 3 weeks and i hope i can bring some good to ibukis name :). As for the brackets everything was written on paper so i dont think itd be on the internet. as for my placement and how many people there were i will find out soon they will post everyones placement in facebook. Im pretty sure that this tournament wasnt set up like the professional ones since i think there were only like 30 ppl or less there. ill tell u guys my placement after i get the results.
What are some of Ibuki’s good frame trap set ups?
what are the best and worst chracter match-ups for Ibuki?
Imo, best matchup = dhalsim, and any character that is free to vortex/okizeme pressure or can have quite some difficulty keeping Ibuki out.
bad matchup = Bipson, and any character that is not free to vortex/okizeme pressure or has outstanding normals (eg: Fei, Chun).
Alright i got the results and also figured out some different things about how this thing works. So i placed 15 out of 23 (pretty shitty i know). Any who that tournament and the other three that are coming up are sort of like practice tournies if you will. There is a state tournie at the end of the summer which is where it actually matters. At that one there will be prizes and stuff thats all i know about it for now they said theyd call everyones house to give more details. I get like 2 months of practice so hopfully thats enough to get good enough to place well in the state one. Like i said none of the people at the local one were amazing so i think i have a pretty good chance
