Ibuki Q&A Thread: Ask simple questions here!

On block I always do st. Mk for a frame trap. You would be surprised how many people mash grab after Ibuki’s overhead.

Shout outs to Chris Hu for getting blown up for it by me at next level. ;p

Come to think about it, this would probably be a nice ultra1 setup.

@mingo: I wasn’t looking for range, but utility. It’s a 1 frame link that’s guaranteed 174 damage off an overhead if you can do it, and with an untech. I’m looking for a combo that is similar off an overhead with more frames to link.

f+MK , cr.LK xx EX tsumuji. Decent damage, untechable, fairly easy to do.

0_0 That is exactly something I was looking for. You’re a great help.

when fighting ibuki and she throws her knife, I block it like a crossup and it sometimes still hits me. Does it have strange properties like you have to block low sometimes or do I just happen to get in these connections when there is input on my block and I can’t block crossups properly when fighting Ibukis? That’s also possible.

If not how do I know which way to block it thanks in advance

Sometimes the kunai doesn’t crossup, but Ibuki still lands on the other side.

If you really wanna be pro and learn how to block it 100% of the time, you’ll have to pick up Ibuki and familiarize yourself with her vortex. You can easily grind this out in the training room with a spare stick or controller holding down one direction while you experiment with different vortex timings.

But you play Bipson, a terrible 4-6 (probably worse) matchup for Ibuki. Just teleport/EX your ass outta there and enjoy your pressure-free wakeup.

Yeah it must be that bad a matchup. I get in the corner and I lose, pretty much guaranteed. Walk forward rh repeatedly until Ibuki dies, basically. So much nonsense in that matchup.

Actually there’s a little trick to counter Bipson’s corner pressure. I dunno if you saw Air’s Ryu tutorial video on Cross Counter but with Ryu you can do whiffed far.st.LK and it’ll sort of change Ryu’s hitbox such that Bipson’s cr.LK would whiff. Ibuki can do the same thing, but better, with st.LK. Thanks to st.LK’s superior hitbox, it has a better chance of stuffing a followup scissors. And thanks to target combos, you can brainlessly mash st.MK afterwards and reaction tsumuji/neckbreaker/whatever.

Bipson can obviously whiff punish, but the fact we actually have options in the corner vs scissors pressure really makes Bipson think twice.

Also Bipson’s far.st.MK is a much scarier poke in this matchup imo. His far.st.HK can be beaten with cr.HK, but his far.st.MK can’t be beaten by anything except whiff punish (difficult) or counter hit (also difficult).

Im having trouble with dashing after S.HK (close). Like if I anti-air with standing back medium punch dash then standing hard kick for some reason I can’t dash after that. Also trouble with dashing after the target combo to land on the other side of the opponent.

with ibuki

Did you try what I said in your thread?

And what target combo are you talking about?

both of those cancels (st.HK and TC launcher) into dash are super jump cancels while the b+mp cancel is a regular cancel, this means you need to hit up forward and time it correctly.

I can do the b.MP one easily im talking about after the b.MP I dash then do st.HK and try to dash but it never comes out.

yeah, it is a super jump cancel…do the same as your regular cancel except end the motion with up forward. easy

From this video @ 9 minutes and 29 seconds, the Ibuki player did a bunch of juggle reset dashes after a dizzy. This is the most I have ever seen any Ibuki player do (I unusually see 2 or 3), my question is, is there a limit on how many you can do? What is the maximum you have ever seen a Ibuki player do? Like 7 of them? I understand that the damage scaling makes this inefficient, however I just wanted to know.

TC4 xx kazegiri xx FADC , cl.st.HK xx SJC hk.cd , cr.HP xx SJC hk.cd ~(reset)~ cl.st.HK xx SJC whiffed j.HP.

There’s no limit on how many you can do, assuming your opponent doesn’t block.

There isn’t much damage scaling since it’s actually a reset. In fact, since it’s a reset, and cl.st.HK + cr.HP does tons of stun (400), you can stun any character after 3 repetitions.

Is there a way to practice rushing in? I played with MingoDynasty last night and apparently I really need to learn every single thing about rushdown characters. :frowning: I suck.

By rushing in do you mean “rushing down” as in pressure, blockstrings, mixups, etc.? Or do you mean “getting in”?

Probably rushing down because I can get in pretty well. The thing is after I’m in range, I dunno what to do! You know like when I got close all I did was cr. mk. I dunno corner pressure and stuff, but I’m getting blockstrings from the sticky. And also, is there a way to practice doing SJC?

Honestly the only way to learn how to pressure with Ibuki is to just practice. Find out what’s safe, what’s not, go from there. You also have to learn to analyze your opponent fast. Ibuki gets raped by people that mash, always take that into consideration. Corner pressure with Ibuki isn’t bad. It’s not great, but it’s not bad. Start doing things like her Swipe Kicks (MK to be safe) and anti airing/neckbreaker if they try and run away.

There’s really not “This is what you have to do” for her, it’s all up to how you want to play her. It all comes with practice and experience like I said.

What in specific are do you need help SJC’ing? I mean, that’s really another thing that you only get with practice. Easiest thing to start with is prolly her LP-MP-HP target combo into U2 because you have so much time to buffer it. This is also something you NEED to learn. I can’t stand people that have U2 and don’t ever go for it. After that I guess you can practice MK-> SJC -> U2 and stuff like that but just keep on practicing lol.

Grab a friend (preferably one offline so you can do this in training mode) and have him/her try blocking everything and teching everything. Then you as Ibuki try to rush him down and pressure him.

If that’s not possible, go into training mode and put the dummy on random block, and try the same thing. The dummy won’t exactly mash so you can’t practice frame traps or throw setups, but at least you’ll practice spacing during your pressure game.

Which SJC are you talking about? SJC U2? SJC cd?
