Ibuki Q&A Thread: Ask simple questions here!

Sorry if it’s been mentionned, but I can’t find a detailed answer about how to deal crossups. That’s my real problem actually, I get smashed by opponents who perform perfectly timed crossups. How do you manage them on wakeup ?
Thanks

block.

yeah block first if you see any top player’s match videos, they know how to block
and wait for the oppotunity
No matter how hard you hit your opponent, you will lose if you can’t block their attacks

Thanks guys, that can’t be clearer.

I was used to Fei Long lk flamekick reversal, where no crossup could work against. Too bad Ibuki don’t have any proper crossup reversal

Her lack of a reversal is why most people are calling her difficult to play. I had trouble blocking crossups when i first started with her, but eventually the discipline to block instead of mash out a reversal will help your game across the board.

After all, I think one of the most basic techniques for this game is to bait reversals > punish. Ibuki’s Vortex options let us do that incredibly well.

well yea your not suppose to use reversals a lot since they can easy be baited only reversals that was the easy to escape from was gen ex oga even then it could be baited although a bit more hard since people have to stay a little away from you. i dont mind if my characters dont have a best reversal, although gen ex gekiro is really good.

Little bitches have funky hitboxes… Crouching Chun makes Tsumuji’s 2nd it whiff on hit… crouching Blanka doesnt eat the 2nd hit of jab strong… Against blanka you can just use short forward target combo… but against chun I keep getting fucked up because I use Tsumuji for chip.

But who else has funky hitboxes you need to know about??

I can’t seem to hit c.HP MP Kunai consistently. I either get a super, or I get a super jump with no kunai. TK Kunai doesn’t seem to work for me at all.

How are you guys executing this?

If you’re standing on your feet she has plenty. I already explained on the first page of the thread that close s.HK will beat people trying to cross u pretty clean. df+MK slide under then punish with c.LP to LK, MK target combo or throw or whatever. You guys are too used to your characters that have a special move answer to everything. Time to learn those characters that require buttons.

If you’re knocked down on the wake up…well then yeah block. Even with Fei Long who can technically beat cross ups that’s only against people using bad crosses. Good players are just going to safe jump you on wake up (which you’ll probably never see anyone do online) and force your flame kick to whiff and then punish u. Even with Fei Long at high level play you’re gonna have to block against safe jumps.

Against Chun just use EX tsumuji. Dont mess with the regular ones. Oh and try to hit confirm into it. If she is crouching press down plus kick right after the first one hits because after the first hit only the low sweeps will hit her for a combo. If u continue to go high after the first spin she can combo you for free. So try to stick to s.LP/c.LP pressure once u get in on her. b+MP is good against her as well and I believe u can confirm that into a combo as well.

Using tsumuji for chip is risky any ways because it’s not a true block string anymore like it was in 3S. In mash fighter iv niggaz just wanna reverse shoryu and ultra shit like that now.

Yeah go ahead and make a new thread. Especially if it’s based on the mook guide.

This. I’ve been doing it with qcf, uf, qcd(quarter circle down) p, but that works for me 50% of the time.

Dude I love that people want to reversal it… now I just have to poke at them to bait DP. Not even a knockdown

I didn’t know you could combo after bMP. Like I dash after it on AA and get a crossup with LK/MK… but on standing opponents I thought it was 1 frame links from point blank or bust. I never tooled around with it much as a ground poke besides in the matchups where crHP whiffs like chun… and even then I decided to use LKMK target combo instead when they are on the ground.

I have success doing.

c.HP, flick up forward like you were doing a 2-1, then just QCF+MP fast.

So at the end of the day, seeing as unless you are some how landing naked cr.hps, it seems like being able to combo into ultra is kind of not as awesome as we thought it would be. Do you guys find your selves actually doing ultras off of target combos? I haven’t really looked at how much stun u2 does, but usually I just keep vortexing back into neck breaker, and they are stunned and dead pretty quick.

I’ve read about u2 being good to punish fireballs, and that u1 is pretty much just a glorified raida. Is the best thing to do just hang onto u2 and use it to punish stuff/use after fa’s, or are most people using u1 these days?

the damage combod off TC’s is pretty shitty compared to what some were expecting, but i still use it. i usually don’t u2 after level 2 FA’s unless it’s going to win me a match, though - it depends on the matchup i say.

important to understand that an easily accessible ultra is a nice tool to have vs characters who / situations that are stronger vs vortex than others. and if nothing else, u2 leaves them in/near the corner for some shenanigans (plus its sometimes an ideal situation to reset the fight full screen for ibuki i’ve found).

edit- maybe i just like slamming people into the ground, though.

You’re bringing up something that I’ve been realizing across the board lately. Ibuki is not really designed around landing landing either of her ultras left and right. She has so many tools for dealing damage and she has combos after hitting someone with a focus attack that can potentially do as much damage as an Ultra 2 by itself. Once I start really pushing Ibuki I think I’m going to see myself landing ultra 2 on every opportunity like I did with Viper in Vanilla. In Super Viper’s ultra 1 still does near 500 damage so it’s worth adding to the end of combos but Ibuki’s basic combos that could lead into ultra will get scaled so hard that you’re better off just saving the ultra and working on some big link based target combos to get near the same damage. Ibuki’s ultra 2 has a lot of other applications including being a ground projectile killer, being able to reverse a lot of typical flying special attacks and generally punishing whiffed specials.

Seriously man thank you thank you thank you for this.

Scans of that Japanese Frame guide would be GREAT. I have been patiently waiting for the real frame data to come out, VERY excited we have an ibuki player with the guide in hand

Hey guys,

I’m new to SSF4 (didn’t have SF4) and I’m still learning how to punish people doing focus attacks. Earlier I was playing against a Ryu that after he got a knockdown after a throw, he would go into a focus attack so that when I woke up it would hit me. I tried EX Kazegiri and it was too slow, as well as neck breaker. After falling for this stupid tactic I went into training mode and set up the dummy to do the same thing. I found that RH Kasumi Gake is the best way for me to get out and punish. What other options have you guys found for dealing with a focus right in your face? I know this tactic won’t work in high level play, but I’d like to know my best options for dealing with people who do it online etc.

Thanks

Backdash or Ultra.
