Another Vegas local here. FlipFlop covered a lot of the places nearby, but here’s a few more:
>TGI Friday’s in the Gold Coast across the street. Same prices / food as any other TGIs.
>My personal favorite Thai restaurant in town, Noodle House, is located about one mile from the Rio at the SE corner of Spring Mtn and Wynn Rd. Prices are very cheap for sit-down, most entrees are $7-$9. Try to go during non-peak hours though, as the place is a bit small and they stay busy.
>If you want REALLY cheap eats nearby, somewhat within walking distance, there is a Sonic open 24/7 on Flamingo just past the Gold Coast.
As FlipFlop alluded to, we Nevadans get 50% off at the epic Carnival Buffet at the Rio, which drops the price of lunch to just $8.50 and dinner to $13, which is a hell of a deal. I’ll be at Evo pretty much all weekend, and I’m sure I’ll be going there a few times, so just PM me if you want to meet up for lunch or dinner, I’ll be happy to help out.
Definitely not walking distance. It’s about 5.5 miles from the Rio. If you’re taking a cab, it’ll run you about $20 each way. You could also take public transit, but it involves a transfer and would take over an hour.
@comeback, all I know is that Insert Coin(s) is on Fremont, which is somewhat far, I’m staying at the Luxor, so I’m trying to find a way there, lol.
edit: another question: blue man group vs jabbawookiez (sp?) which to watch?
Fuck both those dudes.
I turn 21 at evo, buy me a drink.
gratz on turning 21 in vegas, I was here 2 years ago, I was almost 21, they effing knew… I was pissed, If you want to meet up, lets get a drink to celebrate! I’m down with hooking you up with a $2 beer if we can find it, lol… I’m living off the Mickey D’s dollar menu.
edit: my friend wants to drink some hard liquor, if you wanna join, hit me up, lol
hey vegas locals is there ANYTHING to do if your under 21>.>?
do you guys hold bags before c/i? even for ppl who arent the actual person the room is reserved for? also, is it recommended b/c ill have my stick in a bag and dont want it being thrown around.
hows the gym, i read its $22 per day?
whats the best way to get to the strip from the Rio?
Chinatown is a short walk going South on Valley View(walking toward Stratosphere) maybe take you 10-15 minute walk, not really ghetto. and you will see ChinaTown on your left.
The shuttles take people to and from the Strip every 30 mins, and the ride is like 5-10 minutes tops. I forgot how much the fares are on the Cat bus:
The Deuce(aka Strip doubledecker bus)
2-hour$5
24 day $7
3 days $20
Easy just take the bus going north!

blue man group is very percussion based music on crazy stages done all artsy and funny.
jabbawookiez …if you liked them on ABDC you will definately enjoy the show then.
Whats big for kids these days are hookah lounges.
Cloud 9 - first big hookah lounge in vegas, they actually use coconut coals for their hookah, have live DJs spinning house, hiphop, and stuff …pretty fancy.
Myxx - Just opened up on Spring Mountain and Jones in the same plaza to Cafe Moda(Pacqiuao’s favorite Filipino bar in vegas!) Just as nice, more authentic, they serve authentic Arabian tea and even serve alcohol! Also I hear its 18 and over only.
Belldesk can store anyone’s luggage, just tip em a few dollars. They give you a ticket to hold.
I heard its not worth it, only has treadmills and elliptical machines. So don’t expect to left weights.
We have shuttles to drop you at the entrance/exit by Carnival World Buffet. Runs every 30 mins on top of the hour from 10am - 1am. To either Paris or Harrahs.
Do they show MMA at the sportsbook? I’d like to steal away for a few moments to watch Fedor/Hendo
For those of you without a car (and those that want to save money versus a taxi, which are relatively expensive in Vegas), visit www.rtcsnv.com for public transit information. You can input the Rio Las Vegas as your starting point, then get directions on anywhere you would like to go. FlipFlop mentioned the fares and the Deuce on the Strip route; service in the center of the valley is pretty good, you can use it to get to a lot of the places being discussed, it just might take a little while, depending on traffic and location. The Rio itself is located on Flamingo Road, which is served by Route 202, one of the busiest and most frequent in the Valley. It also operates with double-deck buses, 24/7. It’s just one stop from the Rio to the center of the Strip (although the Rio shuttle works for that too, it’s just a little less frequent).
What kind of hookups are on the TVs? Should I bring HDMI, component, or composite for my PS3?
And is there a safe in the room? I have some stuff (like my PS3) that I’d rather not leave out in the open if I don’t have to.
it’s super easy and i’m notoriously bad with directions/public transit
just cross the street to the MGM side and take the Deuce going north (it’s only going one way on that side of the street so you can’t get screwed up). eventually you’ll get to Fremont St.
I’ll figure out a way, I usually always do… lol… looking forward to meeting everyone. Btw, is there anyone going to Evo from Dallas?
FLipFloP, how’s the pool? do you need a room key to get in?
(staying at Gold Coast, hehehe)
Maybe a strange question, but:
I am flying in to Vegas, and there is a very good chance I am flying straight to Austria for work after Evo (not able to fly back home for clothes/wash clothes). Is there a laundry mat on site (not a dry cleaning service) where I can wash normal clothes? Thanks
So I’ve never dealt with riding on Taxi’s before, is it really just like it is in the movies? As they’re just going by I just wave em down? Also, if I were to take one from Rio to Insert Coin, how much would I be expecting to pay? And can I share a cab with others and does it cost more at that point? Or is it just the ride I’m paying for and we can split the fare cost?
its cheaper to share a cab, the more the cheaper, its how it usually is, but it cost so much to get there, might as well try to bus it…
hey FlipFlop, thanks for all the info! so just to clarify, you’re saying that the earlier we check in tomorrow, the better chances we have of getting the beds we requested?
Does bus run 24/7? If they do I suppose I may do that. How does the fare work though? Like if I were to get a 24 hour pass for 7$ does it expire at midnight or do you have literally 24 hours from the point of purchase.
