I suck, ass.

In a nutshell. I really need some guidance. I constantly get beat my button smashers. I legitimately want to get better at this game because I like it.

Advice?

Well, let’s get specific. What would you like to learn? What’s your biggest weakness?
Oh, you are talking about Super Street Fighter 4 right?

top or bottom?

Practice

No, really - this is not the smartass, wiser-than-thou answer

You really need to invest time practicing and building experience and that’s it

Also, your post isn’t very descriptive - are you being hit by reversals? Or by someone spamming sweeps or some other move? Try blocking a little more, and punishing opponents on recovery, odds are you still haven’t got the “feel” for FGs yet and are just trying to attack, attack, attack all the time

You didn’t tell us your game, character and what you are having trouble with.

We are not magical genies. If you want to stop sucking you have to be more descriptive with your queries. Every question I have asked of SRK has always been answered very quickly because I detailed everything.

You playing online aren’t you? I understand why you lose to mashers. You might be a decent player (or you might suck), but the lag is cause mashers and turbo users to be gdlk in the game (assuming this is SSF4). So here’s what you do:

  1. Practice hard. Especially if you wanna be competitive.

  2. Bait out Shoryukens and punish them accordingly.

  3. Play both offline and online. If you do decent offline and suck online, the input lag may be affecting you.

Hoped I helped

Appreciate the feedback. I play Abel, or at least trying to. I’m just trying to get better overall, and eventually compete at the tournament level. I most definitely need to work on blocking more and punishing. Combos and mixups as well.

At this point everyone who makes threads in this forum assume we’re playing Super, as they believe it’s the greatest fighting game ever…

Abel is a pretty hard character to pick up as a beginner just because if you don’t know him inside out you will get beaten by stupid things like meaty cross ups, jump ins and mashed out reversals etc.

One of the most important things to learn with Abel is blocking, seriously. With no invincible 3 frame reversal or solid anti air it’s really hard to escape pressure without meter so the best thing to do is block and be patient and wait for opportunities.

A solid punish is Tornado throw if you’re in range. If not, you can usually hit crouch mp or crouch mk then combo into CoD then FADC or whatever.

If you don’t use it enough, start fishing for fwd + mk dash. This is a mixup in of itself. On hit you can land stand fierce (1 frame link) then combo into CoD. On block or hit you can land tornado throw which does huge damage. You can standing roundhouse, this will hit crouching opponents and will hit them if they try to jump out. If you think they’ll jump you can falling sky but this isn’t very reliable but it works well as a mindfuck if you guess right. Or you can just block if you think they will try to reversal you.

gotta agree with kaos.when i first started playing i had alot of trouble with spammers,it just takes practice and baiting their punishable moves.

Watch lots of youtube videos, watch fight replays (I pray to god your talking about SSF4 and not the original), DO YOUR TRIALS!, practice, and don’t ever give up. I’m always down to play people when they invite me too. I won’t quit on ya. Send me a game invite whenever

Upload some replays, that would help us find out the holes in your gameplay.
