"I shall grind beneath my heel, all that exists!" Oni Combos Thread

e-peen is irrelevant to me, attitudes on the other side bother me

Tested j.mk > s.lp vs the entire cast crouching as a crossup and as a front jump-in. S.lp is a better hit confirm than c.lp because it does more damage and gives better frame advantage on hit. It whiffs vs the following when crouching…

adon
akuma
balrog
chun li
c viper
dan
dhalsim
guy
juri
rose
yun
yang

I also tested J.mk > b+mp > b+mp on everyone. It whiffs vs the following…

balrog
chun li
dan
dee jay
dudley
el fuerte
gen
rose
seth
vega

he already answered that in his post… more damage + better frame advantage.

im not saying i agree 100% with him since i havent touched oni for awhile and its 3am here, cant think straight, but yeah, he already mentioned why.

whiffed vs 12 out of, how many chars we have again? lol… not so bad.

You should read it as “S.lp is a better hit confirm (against the characters it connects on)…”

So for example if you were doing j.mk, c.lp, c.hp xx hk.tatsu as your BNB it would be better to use s.lp instead vs all but those 12 characters.

agreed.

I don’t know if I like st.lp at a starter for hit confirming because it’s impossible to option select sweep with it. I suppose you could use use st.lp > cr.lp + cr.hk. I’m just not too sure how st.lp and cr.lp chain or if they link. Speaking of option selects has anyone been using his stomps utk to jump in option select dp? I’m new with using non charge characters so this is one I’m just wondering about. Would you do combo into stomp then safe jump hk or hp? Just curious how many people are using it and what input they are using.

Well I began testing it because I was really trying to find crossup BNBs so the OS potential is pretty weak there compared to something like a safe jump setup. I’ve been going with st.lp > c.hp xx whatever off of crossups because it does comparable dmg and considerably more stun than something like c.lp x2 > TC2 xx whatever. Plus it’s an easier link.

Have safe jumps been found for Oni yet? I don’t remember seeing any posted. Please share if you know!

Yes, I can’t remember where i saw them but i know there is the one on characters with out a three frame reversal. You do a mk / lk stomp and do a neutral jump mk. It works on guys like fei long and whoever else doesn’t have a 3 frame reversal. the one you have to do against guys like ken was shown in a vid that got posted up where they tiger kneed a lp air dash and cancel it with lk / mk air tatsu needed a mk stomp with utk.

Yep its supposed to work from a lk or mk stomb. i think its on youtube somewhere.
from a backthrow you could do a backjump, airdash, tatsu crossuo and another tatsu on hit.

btw: whos reversal is fastrer than 4 frames?

ryu, evil ryu, ken, akuma, and oni all have 3 frame srk’s (except ken’s mp.srk). dudley and juri have 3 frame counters, and cammy and fei’s u2’s are instant startup. that’s the ones i can think of off the top of my head. i know there are certain supers that startup very quickly too.

his crossover attack always gets me :frowning:

oni is banned

try harder

/unbans oni

lol

XD

its so annoying man lol i stand there waiting and it just happens :*(

mash :lp: and you win. Or do that neckbreaker thing and you win. Or throw and you win. Basically, anything you wanna do, you win.

i shall remember that in the future !

i know its not the video thread, but that was the video i was referring to. i cant really judge if this really works atm since i cant test it, but it looks good to me.
also one guy in the comments says you can do it from sweep, too.

il take it out and put it in the vid thread if it doesnt belong here. credit goes to the creator “tktctym”

I have been testing some things on Oni lately. One thing being the b.+mp+hp thing to get TC2. You don’t even have to use another command after the initial press. Both ways test out to be 213dmg. Both ways have the exact same properties. The only difference is one is a series of commands and one is a command. Tested on Xbox 360 with Oni dummy. I know my execution discipline. This is a shortcut. Not a glitch. I have no access to an arcade so I can’t test this on a cabinet version to see if it is possible in that environment. Certain reports have said it is not possible but I want evidence. No, it’s not a prolific discovery but it is a discovery none the less and should be accounted for.

Basic bnb combo’s I’ve been using a lot are cr.hp combo’s for obvious reasons. I find using cr.lp/cr.lk combinations working very well with almost every combo as a great opener. Some advancements I’ve been using are TC2 xx lk.-stomp or fadc xx lk-slash and some dashing experimentation. If I’m facing an opp that allows me opportunities to build meter I’ll go heavy on the fadc combo’s and ex xx’s. If an opp is giving me limited zoning options I’ll also go heavy on lk-slash to purposely become predictable and catch them off guard with a jump in or fade away with lk whiffs to bring their false attention my way. Foolery with mp-dash, lk-air tastu, lp-goshoryuken can cause them to eat an ex goshoryuken if I they’re not careful or allow you to whiff a lp-goshoryuken if you feel the need to get some meter to fill a closely full bar. I can also get a little hectic on them to mix up their rhythm if it comes out of nowhere. I’ve noticed this brings on a confusion effect and causes unpredictability. I’ve calmed down a few rushdown artist’s on this as well.

Crouchers don’t see eye to eye with the palms or j.hp, cr.mp, cr.hp, h-tatsu for an easy, safe 381dmg. Even if you can surprise someone with a cr.hp to remind them what it can do will detour them. Although I do not recommend using them at close range, if you have time, take advantage of a hcb hado as often as you can on further away wakeups. Hado zoning experimentation can do wonders on your waking games. If you feel uncomfortable, there’s no shame in using qcf hado for chip on a close wakeup as well. I see too many options to waste with no use of fireball games. At close waking situations, I often use lk-slash as it is usually safe on block and can lead to resets if needed or can work wonders on positioning problems. I recommend becoming extremely proficient in lk-slash timing because it can really annoy people when you over use it. Hado zoning expeirimentation can do wonders on your waking games, too.

Sorry for all the jibble jabble and if people are already using these techniques. Maybe look at it as confirmation that these things work? Idn. All I know is I’m having a blast with Oni and he’s a very fun character to explore so I thought I’d share what I was doing. If you guys have some input on what you think I should do in these situations or just wanna give some of your views, that’d be cool. I don’t visit here very often but I like reading through these to learn.

this is funny because i tested on my ps3 and couldn’t replicate it. b+mp+hp def does not equal TC2 in my experience.

lol we still talking about b.mp+hp = TC2?

maybe ill make a video just to prove this crap is false…

meh maybe not, im 99% sure that to those who claimed b.mp+hp = TC2 accidentally used negative edge, and apparently negative edging wont appear on the key display.

Entirely false? I don’t think so. Been playing SF since '92 and this concept isn’t new at all. Especially for the SF4 series. The uses for these different inputs are obvious and will vary from player to player.

TC1 INPUTS

F+LP, MP
F+LP, U+MP
F+LP, D+MP
F+LP, B+MP

TC2 INPUTS

B+MP, HP
B+MP, F+HP
B+MP, D+HP
B+MP, U+HP
B+MP+HP (negative edge)
B+MP+HP 2x
B+PPP+PPP
B+PPP (negative edge)

So there you have it. Let’s move on…

All I wanted was to share what I’ve been doing. I’m sure many of us have been playing for a while. 92 for me as well. Anyway… I did more testing. It has nothing to do with how long you press a button. It’s actually how long you’re holding back. It won’t do it when I hold mp+hp or press mp then let go of holding down hp and let go while holding back or right before doing so. When you stand next to the dummy and tap b.+mp+hp it comes out. However, you have to pay close attention to how long you’re actually holding back. If you tap back fast enough (but enough to make back show on the screen) and press mp+hp, it won’t come out. Sometimes when you’re right next to the dummy and press mp+hp while holding back longer, it won’t come out. When press mp+hp, I’m assuming that’s probably something to do with how the attributes of the attack. So how is this negative edge if your not holding anything down? If you consider holding a direction a form of negative edge, it magically becomes just that. It’s not a command when you press mp+hp after tapping back. I know it’s not holding down buttons because I did that in every way shape and form. I retract my statement about it being a command. I irresponsibly thought it was a shortcut similar to when you double tap diagonal down + any punch and a srk comes out. Which I can’t stand. It may very well be a glitch. I wanted to post this so that no one will get confused. The official move list says it’s a Unique Attack. It is. I admit I didn’t test it enough and I apologize. I could’ve said something short but this game is my life and I take it VERY seriously so I can understand why others would not take it lightly. For us who’ve done it all, we want accuracy. We also wouldn’t learn anything if we didn’t make wrong assumptions. Admitting it is the first step. The second… Move on I shall.
